How nice to be here again the day after Coach Ewing, his staff and the guys pantsed all the doubters. Seeing the Hoyas on a bracket will be a sight for sore eyes. Also it will be with a totally different perspective as at the end of the JTIII era, we were the pundits’ whipping boys for being a top seed most likely to be bounced. Now we may be a trendy upset pick! Oregon St’s win last night helps us, as we should be higher than them on the S-curve. Cincinnati winning today also would help us. I’m thinking 12 seed but 11 or 13 seem to be possible too. As I wrote on another thread, matchup implications can affect seed line as if Creighton and Nova are 5 seeds, that’s 2 less spots for us to be on the 12 line. Either way, I think we are a live team against any 4-6 seed and just thrilled to be in the conversation today, on a day where in recent years there’s been major FOMO.

Here's a thought: Hoyas a 12 seed playing Texas Tech a 5 seed. It is the type of drama the NCAA seems to like. Or a rematch as a 13 seed against a 4 seed in West Virginia. Given the tourney is in one area there does not seem to be any geographical or homecourt issues.

Well, we won’t lose early to a double digit seed this year.
This time we will likely be the under-seeded monster of a team.
I don’t think I care about the seed. I just want to see this program fully enjoy this experience and re-acclimate to playing in the NCAAs.
We could probably beat almost anyone in the field in one game. Truth be told, we could lay down a stinker to most anyone too.
Let’s enjoy this ride.
Also, kudos to the board for not going down the NCAA ‘what if’ path until the 2nd half of the final. We probably had no chance of post-season play without a win last night. That a message board collectively didn’t start day dreaming prematurely is in some ways quite remarkable.

Nothing would be better then texas tech.. I think matt is a good college player and eveyone must do what they think is best for themselves, but beating him would be amazing.

And , technically, conference champions can be in play in games and are every year, but, it is the 16th seed games and the bottom 4 conference champs. Hoping for an evening game on either Thursday or Friday so I don't have to practice sounding ill when I call out from work.

Still remember VCU's run from a play in game to the Final 4 in 2011 (and yes it was an at-large bid)

I don't think either of these is correct. The play in games are simply for the last two available at large spots. It depends on bracketing principles only. They have been both 11s and 12s in the past. It's even been an 11 and 12 in the same year. But yes we will definitely not be in the play in game. We're in the full field, we're not an at large. As for our Hoyas, for me I feel like we're between a 12 and 13 depending on how much weight they want to put on this week. And there's a pretty big difference between the 4s and the 5s on the latest bracketology I saw. We'd be the 12 nobody wants to play. But just the fact that we're watching selection sunday with purpose is amazing. And for those of you trying to line up vacation days, the tourney starts on a friday this year. First round is friday and saturday.

How do you guys think they will base our seeding? Will it be based upon our wins loss record or will it be based upon us being a tournament champion? How should it be based?

It seems, however, that in recent years the committee has settled on the 11 seeds as the place to plug the play in teams. I’d be surprised if that changed this year.l Edit: After looking over the history of the higher seeded play-in games, it appears as if the last time a seed other than 11 played was in 2014.

It is based on body of work. Last 10 games used to be a criterion, but no longer is. I think over the last 6 weeks we are a top 30 performing team, but we should end up under-seeded between 10-14.

Play ins are the last 4 at large and last 4 auto bids. We are neither and so get direct entry to round of 64. 12 seed is likely.

If anything, teams like us and Oregon State maybe getting to the 11 line might push a play in to 12. It's unlikely but if there was a year for it to happen again, could be this one.
