Why is this game a noon start? If it was at least 1pm I would get to see the 2nd half. Now I'm going to have to follow on the computer... smh Honestly we should be the 3 pm game and let SJ/SH play at Noon. Don’t understand why we get less than 24 hours to recover but Butler and DePaul get a full 24 hours. The winner of our game gets max rest before semis, and that perk goes to the #1 seed, or whoever beats the #1 seed. Let’s hope that is today’s scenario - Hoyas icing and resting and getting ready for semis while SJU and the rest knock themselves out all afternoon and evening.

Our last appearance in that game (I believe) was when the Freeman Wright Monroe Clark team ruined the Orange. A repeat of that type of performance would be great.

Such an underrated team. you know you have a really good team when the 5* PG isn't mentioned......lol....and I understand why we are playing the 1st game. I was just venting a little frustration that I won't get to see any of it....

At least my noon conference is a Zoom so I can watch on my iPad.

AND. HERE. WE GO. - Honestly this is such a tough game to get your head around, because we're basically playing a completely different team. The only thing that jumps into my head is the Kenyon Martin injury back in the day. No, Gillespie isn't Kenyon, but the combo of Moore and Gillespie to a team with a short bench is pretty wild
- For the life of me I can't find a box score with +/- from yesterday, but it felt like we were a push w Blair off the court and dominated in the 29 minutes he was on. I'm not sure we can afford a slow offensive start today, but I doubt Ewing changes after the result yesterday, which I understand completely. Who's going to step up?
- Can we either get Nova in foul trouble or speed this game up to tire them out? We have more depth but haven't really used it. Either way, we're much more comfortable with an up and down game. Nova is going to try and take the air out of the ball and trust they can hit enough 3s. Who can dictate style
- Nova's offense is predicated on having 5 3 point threats on the court. But for today's game...are you worried about Arcidiacano (0-5) from 3? What about Bryan Antoine (2-8)? Antoine was such a beast in HS, the injuries have been rough but you just don't know when the breakout will happen. JRE is 28% on 71 attempts. It's tough with such small samples which highlights how little some of these guys have played. There's gonna be 3 pointers we can live with, and 3 pointers we can't, don't let them come from Daniels, Swider, Slater, Samuels (even excluding his 6-7 vs. us he's at 34%, fairly impressive but they're always wide open I'd imagine).
- I've been an advocate of the drop coverage in pick and roll, and you're really seeing the benefits of it in a game like yesterday. The middle is clogged, help defenders don't have to wander too far away and they can be in the passing lanes. That being said, it concedes the pick and pop 3 for the screener. If there ever was a game to go back to blitzing the ball handler, this might be it. Make Daniels, Antoine, Arch face pressure, and have the rotations ready. I'm terrified to suggest it, it's really never worked for us, but this is the recipe for it to work. Would be completely fine if they didn't go there though
- The only defensive adjustment I'd seriously consider...is Q on JRE and Pickett on Samuels. If we're going to leave Pickett on JRE and double the post, I don't see much of the point. Samuels is the more dangerous 3 point threat, JRE is the more dangerous post threat. Q guarded JRE when Samuels was out of the game last time anyway. I think this makes the most sense
- Ewing's comments on Q being tired were kinda funny. I mean, yea your 7 foot center had played 12 straight minutes, it's going to happen. Finding rest for the starters against Nova will be important. Tim's minutes should come against Dixon. Can Berger get a few in against Arch? Are you ok w Sibley on Slater for a stretch? There's options but have to pick your spots
I was shocked the line opened at 9. I see it at 8 now. I guess that explains the 60-1 odds I was able to grab pre-tourney, really thought this would be more in the 4-5 range. Some nice bulletin board material. Lets keep it going. Hoya Saxa

Hoyas should be underdogs until they prove they can beat Nova. Hopefully the quick turnaround does not result in a low energy start. Wahab has to stay home on defense and keep his feet on the floor. Guards have to still play tight defense on the perimeter. Nova has plenty of good players. Offense has to move the ball and clean up the mind-numbing careless TOs with poor passing and misguided efforts to drive into a crowded lane. Hope Bile can overcome his tendency to always shoot and keep looking to dish when he drives inside. Is there any team that struggles more to in-bound the ball against pressure than the Hoyas? Is there any team that finishes a lower percentage of its fast breaks than the Hoyas? No matter the odds I honestly feel that the Hoyas can win this game if they stay disciplined and avoid hero ball, but there is no margin for a slow start or straying away from team ball.

The 11th team forced 3 games yesterday and moved up the time of 8/9 game. Normally it's like 7pm and then you're noon next day. Feels unfair but I'm sure the #1 seed isn't complaining. Agree compared to Butler / DePaul it's not equitable

With an inexperienced Nova backcourt, do you think we will experiment with pressure today? I imagine we will pull it out at some point to see how it works.

What’s the status of Moore today? Based on Wright's comments, I don't think Moore is available.

What’s the status of Moore today? Listed as doubtful last I heard but could pull a Willis Reed and come charging out of the tunnel at MSG! 😁 (Only old farts will get the reference).

Maybe a little, but considering we played yesterday and they didn't, I'd be concerned with how intense the pressure can be because of tired legs.

Short rotation and quick turnaround doesn’t lend itself to full court pressure. And frankly I think Wright is savvy enough to make us pay for it. Play tight, harassing half court D and crash the boards hard.

The betting line for this game is down to -7 Villanova (at least based on Fan Duel NJ). We have a real chance to win this if we shoot well and can keep Villanova from bombing away successfully from three point range.
While I don’t subscribe to the “it’s hard to beat the same team three times” trope, I am hoping in this instance it’s true!

GAMEDAY!!!
As always, show up with intensity and effort...the rest will take care of itself. Would love to see Jamarko's shooting wake up. If Blair plays like he did yesterday, Jamarko shoots to his potential, abd Bile is on fire then I like our chances the next 3 days. Hope Tim is stretched and ready to move on defense. Dante is going to get his steals today but can he get it going on offense? I think he'll be able to get a few of his rim shots down since Nova isn't as imposing inside, the key is to use today's game as a launching pad. Let's win the REBOUND battle. Let's win the 50/50 balls. Let's put Nova back in their place.
GO HOYAS!!!! BEAT THE KITTYCATS
