I think the difference was coach's adjustment of starting Bile over Carey. Carey hasn't put up numbers but Bile has. Tonight he scored 17 on 7 out of 13 shooting. It was a good move. Bile is rising to the occasion and meeting the moment. Yeah and his defense was on point tonight. He had 6 rebounds too along with 3 steals. They only gave him one assist but I counted two that he got to Tim and Q down low. The man is a swiss army knife. He can do it all!

Impressed by the defensive focus on guarding the 3. Noticed Patrick hollering at least twice when guys cheated toward the paint and left an open 3.

It was a long walk down court I saw it too. I hope he's okay and gets treatment if necessary. He had the walk of someone that tweaked a groin muscle and waiting for that twinge again. Agree. Pickett's limp and Wahab looking like he was tanked. Ice baths and heat massage on the flight home, and hit the theragun all day.

If we can keep them under 80 I’ll be satisfied Satisfied?😉 Kept them at 79 so, yeah I’m satisfied. Ha! Great team win. Grinded it out. Played solid defense for the most part for two halves in a row! That Creighton team can shoot and we made them uncomfortable at times, and made them earn everything they got. Bravo to staff and team. That was an impressive win. Hoya Saxa!!!

What a team win. Huge effort from this group to build on Saturday's comeback with an enormous road win in a place we rarely keep it close, much less win.
Proud of our senior leaders tonight. It's been awhile since we've had Blair and Pickett play well in the same game, and they picked a good time to do it. They hit open perimeter shots. Blair with 7 assists vs 2 TOs may have had arguably his best game as a facilitator as well. Pickett's still way too careless with the ball, but you can live with it if the 3's are going down with regularity and he's crashing the boards and playing decent defense. And what can you say about Bile? The light bulb seems to have gone on since the COVID pause and he is now not only playing much more controlled on both ends but also was a defensive force (4 steals and a handful more deflections) tonight. That might be 2 games in a row he's been our best player on the floor.
I thought Tim gave really good production in limited minutes. He was a big reason we opened up our lead in the first half, as Q had a rough start to begin the game. Couple cheapies late against Bishop when the refs went full moron in the 2nd half, but back-to-back solid outings from him.
Think you are starting to see the poise of Dante Harris start to evolve. Played a smart game, attacked when he saw openings to get to the line and for the most part was efficient in keeping everyone involved on the offensive end while chasing around Zeg the entire night (tough matchup). What I was most happy with was him running clock as we were protecting a late lead. Past Hoya teams would have jacked up wild shots early in the shot clock. Dante stayed even-keeled and got us into our sets while milking enough clock to limit Creighton possessions (although he did give some of that back with the late fouls). Again, will the heavy minutes (35 tonight) eventually catch up with him? Hoping he doesn't hit another wall physically as we navigate through a tough stretch of games.
Aside from losing Ballock a couple of times in transition, I thought we did a much better job with closing out on perimeter shooters. We forced Creighton into a lot of runners in the lane and mid-range 2's. The level of defensive intensity, effort and concentration was very high and sustained today against a good team. Needs to keep up.
Also saw a couple additional wrinkles to the inbound game tonight. Pickett handled a good number of inbounds against pressure and did well. Additionally, we were able to throw over the top to beat pressure a few times. Haven't seen that in awhile. In a game decided by a few possessions, being able to get through a game without turning the ball over in those situations was critical. Kudos to the staff for continuing to work on this area; the progress has been readily apparent here.
Refs were awful tonight. No other way to sugarcoat it. Amazing how many calls they blew in the second half alone on both sides. Fouls that weren't fouls in the first half were called at a near non-stop basis in the second half. I don't think Blair got the 3 off and Bile clearly double-dribbled before then, but factor in Pickett's dunk being waved off by a charge and the incorrect shot-clock violation likely costing Bile a putback, I don't want to hear it from the Creighton fans, who were absurdly complaining about not getting calls in the 2nd half when the differential was something like 6 to 2 in their favor. It was certainly amateur hour tonight at CHI as far as officiating was concerned.
When we win the turnover battle (+2 forced), rebounds (+3), and shoot a reasonably good percentage, we can play with a lot of teams. We've got some serious momentum now and are walking into Philly to face a Editeded off Nova team coming off a loss tonight. Staying competitive in this one and putting ourselves in a position to steal a win would be big time progress for a team that finally looks like it's starting to come together and improve in a couple of areas. Whatever was said in that players only meeting prior to Providence was needed and I'm glad it happened.

Dante is growing up before our eyes. Dante please resist the urge to do too much at the end of the game but other than that, I'm proud of you son!

It appears that the pause was more than just players sitting in their rooms isolated. It looks like the coaching staff took the opportunity and used it as a training camp. Maybe sending players film, doing individual workouts etc. With all these new players time was needed and it appears the pause gave them time to bond and jell.

Great team effort...defense solid and played with great energy...more composure/patience on offense, especially when the game neared the end...Villanova will be extremely tough after loss to St. John's (what a season they're having)...but I thought winning at Creighton was near impossible...gonna be a war, but why not keep the Hoya Express going?

Very true. Besides CHUDIER playing awesome as opposed to a turnover machine the PG is clearly Dante. Instead of forcing things Dante played a good game tonite (late fouls aside).
The 1-2 punch of adding Dante & more BeeLay is adding 2 warriors to the floor for many more minutes. The whole team flat COMPETED.
I said it earlier Creighton didn’t play a bad game. Hoyas came in and took the game from them.

JAHVONNNNN wow that was definitely late, glad we got it It was close, but not clearly late. The shot clock reading "0.0" does not mean time has expired. The determination is the sound of the shot clock horn. Wow! Never knew that. But man, I’m glad they gave it to us.

Well. Well. Well. I didn't see this one coming. Hung 86 on a top 15 team. Played quality defense for much of the game and most importantly in my mind, got a number of live ball turnovers thanks to good hands or positioning that led to transition hoops or free throws. No asterisk or caveat involved - just a Solid W on the road.
And Bile...hes like the Tasmanian devil. Half the time on offense his shot selection makes me think I'm back in a Yates pickup game, but his activity is both advantageous and contagious.
Not to come down from this high so quickly - but I'm focused on Sunday. Listen, this team is still going to struggle at times, and I don't have lofty expectations overall, but I do think it's not hyperbole to say that for the program, the culture, and the confidence Sunday is important. Nova is coming off a game getting manhandled for the most part by the Johnnies. It's national television Super Bowl Sunday on network TV. But mostly because this team needs to not be more than a fluke. 2 wins in a row and losing by 20 to Nova would be the step back we often have had lately. I'm not expecting a win. But I want a battle. I want Nova to have to beat us instead of us beating ourselves. Show the fanbase that the coaching staff can gel a team that lacks the best talent, but has a sum better than its parts. Show CONSISTENCY! We're gonna get Novas best punch - I wanna see us punch back.
Enjoy the win and then get back to continuing to get better everyday.
Hoya Saxa.

Dante assist to turnover ratio was 2.5 to 1. I said if he kept it right there, we could win these games. Good job Dante!! Oh and he had four rebounds too.

I always felt that this team was better than the level we were playing at. I felt that this team would some day come around. Just never thought it would be tonight in Omaha, Nebraska.

Not beating ourselves in the second half, particularly in crunch time, has been an enormous factor in both wins. 2nd half TOs vs. Providence: 2 2nd half TOs vs. Creighton: 3

What a win. What a win. What a rush. What a day. What a feeling.
First off, I've been very critical of Coach Ewing, but today he coached an excellent game. We were up after the first despite 10 TO's. Creighton shot it well and we were still up. It looked like another collapse. Just one where the other team was better. But he kept scheming Blair open and Blair made them pay. We didn't defer to the post and the driving lanes were open. In the second half, despite not shooting nearly as well (looks again were pretty open), we only had 3 TO's. Coach recognized what worked and went to it again and again. The play call late in the game for Bile out of their zone to get him driving two on one was excellent. We defended the three very well. And aside from one PnR, we defended them very well. A lot of the shots they hit were contested. Ewing coached an excellent game.
Speaking of guys I've been critical of, Bile was excellent. He was better today than against Provy. He made some beautiful passes, played within the flow of the game, made huge physical plays, rarely got lost on defense (against the engine of their offense in Jefferson), made some massive hustle plays, created a ton of good looks, and played a near-perfect game. He was truly awesome today. Bile was the reason we won these last two games. He was awesome today. Very, very happy for him. He was the best player on the floor again today.
Dante looked so much better again. Much more mature, he created plays and split their defense excellently. And his defense on the BE preseason player of the year? Just massive. He was a pest in Zegarowski all game. He was very, very good today.
Blair was great. Hit some massive shots and created very well today. 7 assists to 2 TO's and 22 points? Exactly what we need. He hit some massive shots and demanded the ball when he needed it. The three he hit when Creighton tied the game up is the most important play IMO. He misses that and this is a different game. He killed all their momentum. He did this multiple times, but this play was huge. He played a very good game.
For Pickett, his shot was falling. Huge positives. He took what the defense gave him. His late-game iso was one of the most important buckets of the game. The dunk he had was absolutely not a charge. That should've been an and one. But I also didn't think he defended very well this game and he was careless with the ball today. He can be better. 5 TO's is not what we need from our seniors. Still, he hit his shots and played a decent game.
Overall, a great team win. What a day. Bile is proving why he got those minutes. The rotation I thought was solid again. The best guys played and we beat a ranked team in their place. Dante wasn't overloaded and we got Sibley some time. More importantly, we won. What a day. I did not like the early timeout, but also we won so it worked wonders apparently. Bile was excellent again. Start him again, please. LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!
