I agree I’d feel so much better if we had one more solid body. Can you imagine this team with last year’s Leblanc? That being said we have no way of quantifying what that would do to the chemistry. I think it’s highly unlikely any of these guys returns. Really the only one I’d think there’s any chance is Gardner, and even that I think is a pipe dream. Perhaps you are right. Alexander is still wearing his Hoya gear on his Instagram page. Perhapa.... Given his comments about the university on the way out, there is virtually no chance of him returning.

No one knows what went on behind the scenes, and no one knows whether any of these players left of their own accord, or are welcome back or are in good standing at Georgetown. Also, Alexander burned bridges on his way out. Who cares what pic is current in his Instagram profile is, it doesn't change the tweets he made on the way out or his sour grapes statement.

I would open secret talks with LeBlanc, Gardner, and Alexander to try and smooth things over. I get where you're coming from but, from the perspective of those three guys, I'd imagine that it's best for them personally to move on. I wouldn't hold your breath.

Ha - the likelihood any of them come back is probably best case 1-2%
The likelihood at least one of them is thinking -“ah, crap” is 100%. But agree - don’t think anyone coming back

Another solid performance, still some kinks to work out but the offense is clicking:
• The decision to full court press the entire game by Samford is a….bold choice. It really goes to what other coaches are seeing from our new-look team. Usually when you’re outmanned you’d want to slow the game down and limit the number of possessions. Padgett saw how we were playing in half court and thought his best chance was to muck the game up
• And for the beginning part of the game, it kinda worked. We missed a bunch of wide open 3s (although Yurt7 grabbing every rebounded mitigated it). We also forced a few shots and had some turnovers after we beat the press. Eventually we calmed down and there really wasn’t much Samford could do if we didn’t help them
• I don’t want to harp on the past too much, but Sharkey is basically a slightly more athletic Akinjo with a similar jump shot to soph yr James. We could not keep him out of the lane in the beginning and he created uncontested corner 3s for their offense. He only started to force it when it was clear his teammates couldn’t help, otherwise he made the right pass. Whenever he wants to grad transfer, happy to sign up for that.
• Having both Allen and Mosely be able to guard Sharkey clearly wore him down as the game progressed. That will come in handy vs. Howard and Powell (assuming he can play)
• There’s still a few times where we have 2 guys sprinting out at a shooter and then the extra pass leaves someone completely open. If we’re going to hard hedge we have to nail those rotations
• Best part of the 2nd half was seeing the pick and roll chemistry start to emerge for McClung / Yurt7. There was the Mac over the shoulder pass to Yurt, then Mac driving baseline for a floater, then Mac hitting a wide open pull up. Teams know they cant switch it, should be a valuable weapon at the end of close games when needed
• Scoring 99 points on 4 3s is impressive. It just goes to show we can rely on other things to win when needed

Fingers crossed. Sharkey’ s mentality is what I wished Akinjo’s was.

Fair I'm just not sure how much that height difference would actually matter. He had more bounce so they're probably similar finishers around the hoop. Looks like Sharkey has shot 55% on close 2s (better than Akinjo but prob against worse comp). Bottom line: great ball handlers, ability to break down man, get into lane, and Sharkey consistently made the smart pass to set up his teammates for 3s.

Sharkey is much shorter but he seemed much faster and more explosive then the guy who left.

Agree that none of the transfers are coming back, but we do know from more than one Ewing interview after the past couple of wins that he stated that the four players who left "chose" to go elsewhere. Unless that is intentionally misleading, it would appear that they had a choice, even if staying meant a suspension.

I believe Charles Smith and Jaren Jackson were on that team? I can't remember what year Perry McDonald graduated? My freshman year. Perry McDonald was a junior on that team. Probably his best year, since he was a great Pippen to Reggie Williams' Jordan. Bryant, Tillman, Winston, Jefferson, Smith, Jackson, Edwards (hurt most of that year), Highsmith, Gillery. One other guy that would have been a '90 with Bryant, Tillman, and Jefferson, but didn't stick.

He was expected to be Ewing's successor at center and quit the team the day prior to the 1985-86 regular season finale versus Syracuse. www.hoyabasketball.com/players/g_mateen.htm

Unless that is intentionally misleading, it would appear that they had a choice, even if staying meant a suspension. With the range of things that could have happened, no one knows - and as you said their choice might not have been much of a choice at all. I don't read too much into his choice of language given that the statements out of the athletic department have been confusing at best. Seems like an easy way of ducking questions as to why they left by putting the agency on the kids who transferred.

He played 4 years, though. I was mixing him up w/someone else in my head.
