Guess I'm in the minority, but I've been pretty pleased with Yurt so far this season. He had a seemingly poor game today but still put up 19 and 9 on 7-13 shooting. The most vexing part of his game is the fouls and turnovers. Most of his turnovers and misses seem to come whenever he gets double teamed, and he rarely seems to pass it anytime he gets doubled. If he can become a better and more willing passer out of the double team, I think his game will take the next step. For what it's worth, I like him better than Jessie so far. Jessie did seem to handle double teams better and was more of a threat from 3, but I like Yurt's rebounding better, and more so his defense. Every game Jessie's lack of hustle and athleticism on defense used to leave me angry, yet I haven't once noticed Yurt not getting back on D or being some sort of weak link on defense. I'll take that over slightly better offense any day of this afternoon. I agree he’s played very well on the whole, but 4 areas of improvement for me: 1) hands need to be stronger with the ball. Just a couple too many fumbles, strips, loosey goosies. 2) when going up under the rim, seems to get challenged and struggles at times to play through contact, draw fouls, and finish. 3) shot selection. When receiving ball in the post, I feel like he at times settles for higher difficulty fade away jump shots instead of working momentum more toward the tin. 4) foul trouble. Equal parts Yurt’s decisions and defensive sets/structure which puts him in trouble guarding the perimeter . All in all, real strong start, despite a very rough first half tonight.

He is not doing all that folks hoped that he would do, but he is having solid, consistent contributions like a glue guy. I'm proud of the team, and I am proud of him. He is doing what is necessary! Still needs to do more. Hopefully he will continue his growth and development. I like what he's doing. Playing within himself, playing hard defense and helping the team.

Great fun today. Talking with JohnnyJones pregame I told him I wasn't worried about a Hoyas win. Loved how they just shredded the Syracuse zone and how many good shots the offense is producing now. We are finally seeing the best of Jagan Mosely. His defense on Hughes was superb and eventually wore him down. McClung did what was needed in both halves - made shots in the first half and set his teammates up in the second. Allen simply solid on both ends. Pickett and Yurtseven didn’t have their best offensive games but both hit the boards and defended well. Say what you will about Magoo, he knows basketball and he is dead right about this year’s Hoyas.

What this game gave us is hope. Hope after the unsettling things of the past few days. Hope that this team can perform at a high level. Hope that all five guys on the court can contribute offensively. Hope we can handle a zone. Hope that Ewing can adjust to adversity. Hope for this season.

They also beat Syracuse which is lovely under any set of circumstances.

He's finally healthy for the first time since early in his freshman season. He is one of my favorite Hoyas. Low key he does whatever the coach ask him to do and doesn't worry about the numbers and the glory. Coach Ewing is constantly pouring well deserved praise on Mosely. He so selfless and is the definition of the type player all coaches want. Mosely's a "WE" guy not a "me" guy... he's become one of the most indispensable players on the team. Ewing deserves a ton of credit for Mosely's development and it's a beautiful thing to see. Also thinking the doctors who have fixed his shoulder twice and Mosely says this it has felt since high school.

Proud as hell of our Hoyas today! Tighter defense than the past couple and clean to boot. Well done, Hoyas.

Super proud of the way the Hoyas played today. Contributions all around, and if Mosely can become a key figure this season, that would make it even better. That kid deserves to be a winner and to be a reason for them winning. It is also comforting to see an offensive flow and plan that works; proving Ewing has all the Xs and Os we need. This experience has been brutal off the court, but if it accelerates Ewing's understanding of what type of player to recruit to Georgetown than it could be worth it.

Paraphrased in prior posts, here’s one of the sound bytes from Boeheim in the press conference post game: ““Two guys weren’t really contributing at all. And that other guy was throwing the ball up all the time. I know Patrick can’t say that but I can.”
Around the 17:40 min mark in the Press Conference link in the post game article thread.

If Hughes decides to start working on both sides of the floor, he's going to be an excellent player. That kid's shot is buttery.

But I'd add that he's already a reason for them winning. At least in the recent short-term. It's been a horrific time; historically so in relation to the program. These wins weren't accidents. And Jagan has been a huge part of each of them. None more so than today.

Now will Pat Ewing finally get some credit.... You would think...but No, the haters are waiting in the shadows. Some of are even throwing shade & subtle digs at Coach Ewing and the remaining players on the team... Haters are going to do what they do and hate. "It never rains in Southern California" lol

In the past three games, we got legit "third-scorer" scoring from Allen, then Blair, then Jagan (aside from indispensable contributions in other ways) That's just what this team needs. If no true "third option" emerges this year, it has to be done by committee, and I fully expect it to be Jamorko on some nights, too. When the ball moves as well as it has been the past few days, it WILL find the hot hand. We may have had potential hot hands in other games earlier this season that the poor ball never found.

What a fun game to watch!!
Credit to Ewing and everyone that played.
George - I though he played fine. Didn’t think his shots were bad at all. Thought on Macs give and go with Wahab he might have gotten a dunk, but Mac went up straight. All in all - fine. And agree if he can lay defense and no have turnovers, a bucket here and there is gravy.
Mac, Allen, Mosely and Blair all played well and in their own games.
Yurt was having tough day, thought he rushed some shots early and that got in his head.
Pickett was solid also
Generally though , most excited because I don’t think that was our beat game. We still had 11/12 turnovers. Gave up a lot of threes and some offensive boards. Yurt and Allen didn’t have their beet scoring days and Pickett had a ton more upside.
I feel much better tonight than I did last night!
Next three - no let downs .... then things start to get very interesting!!

One of the best wrinkles of our zone attack was when the player flashed to the elbow, then didn't receive the ball, they'd clear out and create space for a drive into that very spot. It was very effective.

It was very effective. Boeheim's zone was bringing a banjo to a gunfight against Ewing. It's literally so simplistic that the only variables for Ewing are talent and execution. Great to see especially against a fellow Hall of Famer.

One of the most enjoyable games I have seen at the phone booth since Porter jumped to the NBA. Great ball movement and effort on the boards. Wow.

Absolutely! As a glue, I am glad he has decided to stay and dedicate himself to team-ball, rather than become unglued. !
