rebound-rebound-rebound
Duke had 23 offensive boards last night. this isn't a great shooting duke team. limit them to one shot and don't turn it over = win

Remember the line is set to try to split the betting public on both sides of the game. If the betting public thinks that the line is too high (or low) it will move. In any event, being a big underdog seems to suit this team's personality. Hopefully the Hoyas can continue this string of good halves they have played. More than anything I hope that the guards play under control and the moment is not too big for them.

This Duke team is slow and outside of Carey they take a lot of bad shots. This is what I've seen too. If they don't shoot really well, they're beatable.

Interesting match up. Highly rated kids vs. lower rated kids with attitude. We all talked about the DOGS Ewing recruited; now it's time to see how those dogs match up against the blue bloods.
Win or lose, we will see them in March...

Yurt7 needs to use his experience and take it to the youngin’! This is a chance for Yurt to prove himself against a lotto pick. The key will be not to overdo it. Pass out of the double. Reset if need be. And don't do the silly fouls. This is a chance for Akinjo to prove his worth against a first rounder in Jones. He will always be called too small so let's see if he can play within himself and lead like last night. This is a chance for Mac to go against another leaper in Stanley. Play within himself and look to dish at times. The one 3-1 fast break last night was painful when Mac tried to do it all himself. That was my only criticism of him last night which is really good. For the rest of our squad, this is a chance to prove that the whole is more important than the individual parts. These guys are a also playing with a lot of new parts so it is an ideal time to match up and see where we are at.

Duke's too good for us. Vernon Carey Jr is a big boy at 6-10 280 lbs. Kind of like a much better Jahlil Okafor. They have 15 McDonadl's All Americans on their roster. And Coach Chocula is a much better coach than Coach Ewing. We should just go home.
OR
WE CAN SHOCK THE WORLD!

Perhaps I have a chip on my shoulder, but I feel that ESPN looks at us like a novelty act. They didn't place our games' highlights directly behind Dukes, but much later in the show. Highlights were very brief. Heck, they talked about Coach's career more than they talked about the team (I know MSG is the Coach's house, but still). A win tonight or even a good showing will put everyone on notice. ESPN has a chance to be the first on board (after Andy Katz that is). Perhaps my Hoya Paranoya is returning. Anyone have a remedy? Yup, I've got a remedy. It involves another "let's go Hoyas chant" with a few minutes left in the second half and Coach waving his arms excitedly toward the rafters before shaking a disappointed Ks hand. This I can get behind!

Random thought, so will place here: Maybe Penn State is actually very good this year? Our loss looks different if that's the case. Anyway, carry on. Go Hoyas! As much as I want to believe this...

This truly is the come to Jesus game. Win and the world awakes. Lose close and we are ranked. Get killed and we're back to square one.

If we come out in navy or gray, we have a shot. Teal or white and it gets ugly. There was no way we were going down without a fight last night in dark navy, it’s badass!

Myron Gardner ought to get ready and stay ready. Practice that jump shot.

Myron Gardner ought to get ready and stay ready. Practice that jump shot. I like Gardner and I also think he will get some opportunities to help this team before this year is over. Either through injuries (I hope not) or foul issues he is going to be needed, and I think his energy and athleticism will really help this team. Are most people starting to think that Malcolm and Tim I are probably going to redshirt for this year at this point? If so, I think the year of practice and working with the staff will be very beneficial for both of them and they will be significant contributors next year.

I think there’s a decent chance one will redshirt (just due to numbers), but almost definitely not both.

Watched the first half of the Duke-Cal game in person but didn't watch the second half at all. They were not that good outside of Vernon Carey in the first half. Maybe that's because of game plan but everybody around us including myself thought Carey was easily Duke's best player. Like someone already mentioned, he's a tall, big guy with quick feet on offense and defense and a nice stroke with good range. He was really doing it all. I don't think Yurt is as strong or as quick as Carey so he will have to rely on positioning and catching deep in the paint or relying on his skill in the post. It will be hard for him to back Carey down. Yurt seems more like a turn and shoot type player. This would be a great time to take some 3 pointers if he can still make them or allowed to take them.

Yurt is going to have to stay in this game for longer. He can't get into foul trouble. This team is going to need him to be able to score and rebound efficiently. This is an absolutely huge game for him. James is going to have to play very well offensively against Tre Jones and avoid turning it over. If this Duke team gets steals, it's going to be points. Have to be smart, this Duke team uses the bench more than usual. Defending Carey and not letting a shooter get hot is huge. Make them play our game. This team isn't particularly special for Duke teams. Beatable, have to take advantage of them.
