POUND THEM INSIDE and FOUL THEM OUT. That is an interesting idea. I had initially been thrown to thinking how many fouls do we have to give, but Carey is averaging 3 fouls in 23 minutes per game. Delaurier, his primary backup, is averaging 3 fouls in 14 minutes a game. If the Hoyas were to lose, I would prefer not be at the hand of Carey. Whichever team can put the other front court on their heals with foul trouble will have an advantage.

Whichever team can put the other front court on their heals with foul trouble will have an advantage. That should be our model against most teams. IMHO, it is not coincidental that Texas lost its way when several starters got in foul trouble early in the second half. I believe there will be many games when we are down early but wear down teams with our depth and kill them with foul trouble and free throws. The double bonus is nice when Akinjo is the primary foul shooter- we want to get there as early as possible.

This Duke team is slow and outside of Carey they take a lot of bad shots.

What are the odds that LeBlanc starts tonight? I wish I had offered pre-season bets that Pickett would take Leblanc’s starting spot. No one would have believe that. Every game I think Josh might start, but it hasn’t happened yet. Josh came in 2 minutes into the game. I have no problem with that. Mosely is actually starting over Josh as we have gone with a 3 guard line up.

I feel like we could see more Terrell Allen this game paired with Akinjo just to help him out. I'm skeptical of Jones as an offensive player but there is no denying his defense. He will probably be mandated w taking Akinjo out of the game and try to not even let him walk the ball up.

You can argue it either way. Part of me is shocked that either starts over Josh.

Hope this set of Hoyas knows the back door. Remember the pinnacle moment of back door Hoya offense?

And while I would prefer to start the best 5 players if possible, Josh as sixth man certainly worked last night. And you won't hear me say a bad word about Mosely; kid has been through a lot in his four years here and has emerged as a very solid leader on the court. Team makeup is starting to become more clear. What a difference a night makes.

Random thought, so will place here: Maybe Penn State is actually very good this year? Our loss looks different if that's the case. Anyway, carry on.
Go Hoyas!

Have we played Koach K's Army of Mercenaries when they're ranked No. 1 since that wondrous day? I was at this game when we played Duke (ranked #5) in 2015 at MSG in the 2K Classic, lost 86-84. That was the game when Grayson Allen pushed LJ Peak in the back into the stanchion as Peak was driving to the basket and even after the refs reviewed, no flagrant foul called. I never booed so loudly in my life, from the cheap seats.

What about that amazing game in 2010 I think? Man did we whip them that afternoon. I think we scored on thirteen straight possessions?!?!

Duke is favored by 14. Feels a bit high. Texas was favored by 6 and that felt right at the time.

Duke is a good team (should not be ranked No. 1), but not as good as they were last year. They have struggled to make outside shots and if that continues I think the Hoyas will do a good job protecting the paint and making it hard for them to score. Huge opportunity for the program tonight.

Have to front Carey (but no more than that) while sticking to the 3 point shooters on the wing. Also, BOX OUT. Carey could have been called for over the back on at least 4 different plays last night.

there's no 'exact science' in comparable score analysis but......both Duke and GU played Georgia State at home on same weekend. duke prevailed by 11 in a close game (outcome was in doubt well into 2nd half) - we, of course, won x 8 last sunday. cmon - HTF can Duke be favored by 16 points?? I like the hoyas to give Duke everything they can handle. defense we played last night was really encouraging as was Pickett's game. Go Hoyas
