I usually wear some of the bluest/grayest tinted glasses but lawd this is a huge fail. And typical Georgetown. Add this to the ever-expanding “why the Hoyas are going to have to find a way to win without top 50 recruits” list. And to cross over the bloviating on the scandal thread about paying vs not paying players ... so you’re going to have these folks at Georgetown decide who to pay under that system? Lol ...

“The statement said that Georgetown had hired him through a third-party booking agency, and that they were not aware of the charges against him at the time they had hired him.“ So no one from the Athletic Dept. was in charge of approving the third-party’s choice? It’s just the third party’s fault? Really?! What a disaster. Time for Pat to call in a favor...

Silver lining, our recruiting seems so cold at the moment that there probably won't be too many top high schoolers in attendance to see what sounds like it could be a largely underwhelming pep rally

It’s not just recruiting, it’s also school spirit and a catalyst for student season ticket purchases. What a poor result heading into an exciting and pivotal season. ☹️👎🏻

Think of the outcome and pushback if the rapper was allowed to perform. Everything will work out. I don't know the dude, but there are plenty quality entertainers in the DMV and Mid Atlantic region.

Reading this thread, I really miss Chris Grosse. They should have backed up a Brinks truck into that guy's backyard.

Good point. Bad as this is, it could have been much worse. Shouldn’t all institutions default to background checks on all invited guests/performers? In today’s world, it is institutional malpractice not to.

We just landed a first team all-met player from a local school from which we haven’t successfully recruited a player since 1994...

Surprised we didn't just ask Wale to perform again. He's local, He just performed in Silver Spring last night. He's a big fan of the program. He Plays in Philly tonight and NY on Saturday, but in theory could easily play DC and get up to NY the next day if properly motivated with some money.

No, just pointing out that there didn't/don't appear to be any high level '20 or '21 players who were on the cusp of a decision expected to be in attendance. While what has happened is unfortunate, if we had RJ Davis and Jamari Sibley on the invite list and were trying to close the deal with them and they ended up seeing a half full McDonough and lukewarm support at 6pm on a Friday, it's a full blown fiasco. My outlook on our recruiting is probably not as rosy as yours--the afterglow of landing a solid player in Williams back in July has mostly worn off for me--but that's probably more fodder for the recruiting board.

Sucks we can't get get good list of players to attend. Yea we got Williams but who else.

I really don't think this will matter all that much one way or another to the program at large.
From a PR perspective, it looks bad because it makes the university look incompetent. Clearly, Fabolos' history could have been discovered before he was hired for Hoya Madness, and the proper due diligence was not performed.
From a basketball and recruiting perspective, I don't think it matters all that much. Would it be nice to have a performer? Sure, but it's not like losing out on a past-his-prime performer is going to really move the needle all that much. Meek Mill was a much bigger name, and losing him a few years ago didn't seem to have much impact. It does seem like the university should be able to get a replacement of some sort but it is very short notice.
Ultimately, nobody remembers Hoya Madness once the season starts.

How do we expect recruits to get excited about Georgetown basketball when they can't even put on a madness event when schools like Maryland, Duke, UNC, Kentucky, Kansas are having crowds of 10,000 plus at their arenas.

Give AI and Dikembe the mic for 15-20 minutes, and you probably can salvage the situation.

Ultimately, nobody remembers Hoya Madness once the season starts. Part of me wonders if the whole concept is past its time. When it used to actually happen at midnight it was a novel way to kick off the season. When I was going to them from '04 through '07, they still felt like a big deal, especially in '05 and '06 when it felt like the team was on the precipice of something. The gym was full and people seemed excited to attend in those years, and we didn't even have any musical guests. It was just Groove Theory, team introductions, a cookie cutter speech by JTIII and some layup lines. Yet somehow it seemed like a big deal. In recent years it seems like having a major rapper as a headliner is a pre-requisite, and that that's the real attraction. Maybe 18-22 year olds today are not quite motivated enough to turn out to watch layup lines and 3 man weave. Which seems totally reasonable, honestly. It's no longer the kick off of the season since the team has been practicing for weeks already, and it's sort of arbitrary to have a pep rally for the teams when the first game isn't for another month or so. Maybe it would make more sense to have it on like the Friday night before the season actually starts so you could pique excitement right before things actually tip off. I still think it's a good thing for marketing to have an event that recognizes the players and if there's a tie-in with a rapper to put more butts in seats, all the better. But if it's not being used as a recruiting tool, there may be some other ways to accomplish that, because as mentioned nobody really remembers mid-October Madness by the time the season is rolling in November.
