We don't need him. Let him go play for Fitzburg University. We got our dawwgs! We absolutely need a 4 man that can stretch the floor. If he decides to transfer Georgetown better be involved. It would be malpractice. I suggest you go find a good lawyer for your malpractice claim. It ain't happening.

It's not even remotely surprising that a kid would have second thoughts about this program considering what was happening during that time. Even if that wasn't the case we're in no position to turn down a kid this talented at a position of need.

If he had NOT chosen GU at all in the first place, ended up at Michigan or any other school, but then decided he was homesick and was now looking at GU again then I could better see your point. However the kid DID choose GU even when it looked like he was wobbling on the very idea, but as soon as an opening appeared that gave him public justification to getting out of that commitment, when the program had suffered one of its greatest blows, Williams cut and ran. He NEVER really was in love with the idea of going to Georgetown. If he is looking to explore his options again it will not be because he wants to return home and make some sort of amends, it'll be because he wasn't good enough to earn more minutes in his first year at Michigan and resorted back to his flight response. I don't think Ewing should be even considering reopening communications with him to be honest. If he was a once-in-a-lifetime talent then you make an exception. But that is not who Williams is frankly. Besides his high school resume doesn't assure that he is going to even meet the expectations you have of him. There is no certainty that he is any better than the guys we will have on the roster next season to play that position. And btw between him and the class of '22 in which people here are pressing for recruits in positions we already have filled, someone has to tell me where all of these available scholarships are coming from.

It's like Mac and Akinjo. Decommitted from Rutgers and UConn. Then followed the same pattern out of DC to Texas Tech and Arizona. I think when you decommit it could be a possible red flag or warning sign that the player has loyalty only to himself. We've been burned twice, not sure Coach can take that chance. We really need players who want to really be here and aren't about Me over We.

It's the fact that I don't remember 1 single interview where he sounded excited or even a little positive about coming to GTown. To me he always seemed like he was pleasing his parents and as soon as he got a excuse to bolt, he bolted. He isn't the first recruit to choose another school. I understand where GTown is as far as being a big time basketball destination. I just don't like the optics and I personally believe he would start for us next year.

Maybe he realizes it would be more enjoyable playing in front of his parents and friends versus riding the pine in Ann Arbor.

I think the board rules do not allow speculation on potential transfers out of the program. However, if you can't surmise where some open scholarships might come from, you obviously don't watch Hoya games or even read box scores.

Not sure why anyone really cares about this Williams kid at this point. He WAS committed to the Hoyas and then changed his mind and decided to go to Michigan. I don't doubt his ability and I am sure he probably would see more playing time if he stayed at Georgetown, but unless the player makes a decision to enter the transfer portal, then I would rather focus on the current players and incoming freshman who have committed to next year. Why he changed his mind is really not that relevant at this point. If he adds his name into the portal, then I guess it is worth discussing but at this point, but for now I would focus on the team and their current improved play.

However, if you can't surmise where some open scholarships might come from, you obviously don't watch Hoya games or even read box scores. Perhaps you can't surmise what a stable program should look like in terms of the type and numbers of non-NBA departures it goes through season after season. How has this game of musical chairs benefitted the team these past few years? Five guys averaging 30 plus minutes per game indicates to me Ewing's mindset is still trapped in the second half of last season. I haven't been particularly critical of Ewing but I do feel he is being short-sighted in regards to the future of his team, in particular next season. But I get I will be in the minority on that front. The team is winning so people will assume that its all about the shorter rotation. Hell, the argument for shorter rotations are always being made on this board regardless of the team's fortunes. All fine and good. But is that rotation short because the other players aren't good enough or because Ewing is only comfortable throwing a handful of guys out there? Either answer isn't any good imo. Particularly the former because it makes you question recruiting choices. But the latter is worrisome too because it questions the coaches abilities to develop enough players for them to see a few minutes of play. That said the thing that I find most curious are people who apparently view these young men as present disposable pieces to be jettison at any moment whenever we have possibly future disposable pieces needing scholarship space. That's one hell of a vicious cycle to be comfortable with. And, no, I don't see the true year after year successful programs taking this route unless they are the Dukes and Kentuckys of the world whose rosters are dominated with One-and-Done talent. But as for the Gonzagas, Villanovas, Creightons, Virginias, Ohio States, Texas Techs, etc., their continuity and lack of large, annual roster overhauls appear to be working.

No one is saying he is a bad kid. Instead we are arguing one may not want to use scholarship space on a guy who has demonstrated a sort of unreliability, one who runs away from things when they are not to his liking (whether that be the program itself before he stepped one foot on campus as a student or the possible scenario of him bolting Ann Arbor because of a lack of playing time). I don't care what his age is, that's not an excuse considering other guys born the same year as him have demonstrated more certainty in their decisions. By the way I'm curious in who you see as the future pros on that current Michigan roster who had limited him to a couple of minutes in meaningless games. I may be undervaluing a couple of their guys. I myself don't hold a grudge against him which is why I also am telling people to let it go when they take shots at him for his lack of court minutes. I think he should stay at Michigan and earn that court time like players used to do before we fans became too quick to dismiss those who didn't show immediate results. I don't necessarily root for Williams but I am not rooting against him either...except if he is ever a part of an opposing team that goes against the Hoyas.

Just for guys ahead of him, Wagner and Livers are NBA players. Maybe end of roster guys, but NBA players nonetheless. I also like Chaundee Brown's game a lot. He's a 1,000 point scorer and I think will have a very solid pro career. 41% from three says a lot with Brown. Those three are elite talents.

Mock drafts have UMich's Franz Wagner as a top 20 prospect & Isaiah Livers as a second rounder who could sneak into the first round. Yeah, I just don't really care about that stuff and there's more to this story than you guys might know. Georgetown didn't do everything right so we should stop with the holier than thou attitude. For me the only thing that matters is can he help you or not.

But as for the Gonzagas, Villanovas, Creightons, Virginias, Ohio States, Texas Techs, etc., their continuity and lack of large, annual roster overhauls appear to be working. You have been on this for some time now and I just think you're misreading the situation. My impression is that most people don't view the players as "disposable pieces", and most are not eager for a bunch of transfers to happen. However, it's increasingly become the reality of the college game. There's too much money on the line for kids who have professional aspirations, and kids by and large are more mobile than they used to be, willing to play in different parts of the country if a program appears to be a better fit. Especially with the prevalence of waivers and the chaos created by the pandemic this year, I think player movement could be at an all-time high. Sure, some kids will stay. There are definitely guys outside of our current rotation who I think could be impactful if they hang in there. But when you have 13 scholarship players and a 7.5 man rotation, plus a Top 10ish recruiting class on the way, it would be naive to assume everyone will be back. It's hard to say who and how many players will stay or go, but also hard to imagine a scenario where all stay. To me that isn't treating student athletes like disposable assets to be jettisoned on a whim, it's more like recognizing the state of the college game in 2021. And it isn't really something we need to beat ourselves up about--transfers happen in many places, and many of those departing will land in situations where they are happier. I agree with you that in an ideal world we'd be in a situation like Villanova or UVA--the two programs we should be most closely looking to emulate. However with the exodus that hit us last year (including the player whose thread we are in), we had to reach on a lot of players to fill out the roster last spring, and so it's not crazy that some of those don't stick. If we can get the right mix of guys and hopefully get back to being a winning program, it becomes easier to talk guys into staying. Jay Wright and Tony Bennet can talk guys at the end of their benches into staying around because a) they're winning, and players are more likely to stay on a team that's winning even if their role is small and b) they've put upperclassmen into the pros. Wright can point to guys like Bridges and Bey and Paschal and Arcidiacono and others who have waited their turn and been rewarded by making it in the NBA. Patrick doesn't have that yet, but it's hopefully the direction we're headed in. As far as Williams, it feels like every few weeks somebody on Hoyatalk will which a Michigan game, realize he's not getting much run, and post about it. I think after he dumped us at a very inopportune time last year there are a lot of people reaching for some schadenfreude. They really want to be able to say "See Terrance, you made a mistake, you should have come to Georgetown." But since his team is way better than ours, we want to convince ourselves that he's getting frustrated by his PT and on his way out. My guess is that he, like just about everyone associated with Michigan basketball right now, is pretty happy. Maybe if his role doesn't increase in future years and he's passed on the depth chart by incoming recruits it will be a different story, and at that time we can consider the merits of offering him as a transfer. But for now I'd be surprised if he's not back at UM next year. Most players are content to play a small role as a freshman provided that their team is succeeding and they can see a path to a larger role in the future.

I always say transfers are usually about what a kid role will be next year not last. Williams is going to have to compete against 2 5 star Freshman for minutes next year, so while I mostly agree with your last paragraph the decision might not be his alone. That's the main reason why folks are speculating but I agree it's much ado about nothing at this point.

Circumstances change for players and programs. The Georgetown program now is in significantly better shape than when Williams decommitted. If playing time is a high priority for Williams, which it usually is for ~top 100 guys, he probably should be in the portal this offseason. Hunter Dickinson's game doesn't really translate to what NBA teams want, so he should be at Michigan for a while, therefore no small ball 5 minutes. He probably won't be playing much next year at 3/4 for Michigan with Houstan or Diabate, or even Barnes or Tschetter. He does always seem engaged on the bench, and maybe he likes being part of a top 5 team and the school, making this discussion moot.
I'd be hesitant to take him not because of his decommittment, but because his skill set is a little redundant with Billingsley in the fold. Unless he significantly improves GU's chances with another Gonzaga guy like Dinkins or Mintz, there should be plenty of other transfers/high school players to prioritize ahead of Williams.

He’d fit right in with our freshman who haven’t played.
