Can't predict or understand how some of these youngsters think sometimes. They all think they are going to make the NBA. Even the walk ons.

That is often true, but does not necessarily explain why a guy who just sat out an entire year to go to a bigger program would transfer again and likely sit out another year, unless there are circumstances where he thinks he can play in the fall.

Would be a signature win. We need to shoot well and Jessie needs to be a factor.

For what it's worth, Butler is ranked 42 on KenPom and St. John's is 40. I do think St. John's is a tougher matchup for us, and it'll be a tougher game (though we are home, which helps), but I do think some here are overselling St. John's based on the hype versus anything they've done on the court.
No doubt, the win over Marquette is a good one. But, St. John's played one of the worst OOC schedules in the country (343 of 353), and until they beat Marquette, their best win was #67 VCU.
All that said, St. John's is 40 and we are 93. So, thus far, they've played much better than us, and I think Ponds is going to be giving us fits. I just don't think a win on Saturday - while it would be great and I would be ecstatic - is necessarily a signature win. It's really too early to say that, but no doubt it'd be a very good win for this squad.

I don't put much stock in KenPom or any of these analytic ratings systems as an evaluator until halfway through conference play. I think there are too many factors it can't discriminate against that make teams good bad or great that have a long term effect in results but not in the data. It's great in a game by game basis and to look into the data, but I don't think the rankings aspect of it means anything until early or mid February. For instance, Syracuse being the 33rd best team in the nation is laughable. As was is being 105 and Butler being in the high 30's before last night. The ratings are great once the season is over imo but really not worth paying attention to at the point. I might be wrong though, is there anyway if comparing KenPom ratings from different weeks over the course of season?

Not sure how much of a "signature win" there is in conference - or anywhere on our schedule - this year.

The Johnnies will come in with a chip on their shoulders after a bad call at Seton Hall which cost them the game with 3.9 seconds left in a heart-breaking 76-74 loss. This loss will motivate them, and we have to be ready. Go Hoyas! Lets make it 2 and 0 in conference play.

St. John's vs Georgetown on CBS, The only thing missing is Brent Musburger calling the action and a Redmen are Deadmen sign in the crowd. It should be fun.

Time to find out where we are. The Johnnies aren't the most disciplined but they have a bunch of talent and they are really athletic. If we don't get back, they'll kill us in transition. Force them into as much half-court as possible and see what happens. Hopefully, the ghost of D'Angelo Harrison is in the building and they just start taking ridiculous shots or pouting if things aren't going their way early. Man, I miss that dude.

I hope that these kids actually get to experience a real crowd and a home team atmosphere tomorrow. They have been on the other end at Illinois, Syracuse and Butler and it is their turn to draw some energy from the crowd.

There will be plenty of St John's rooters but the crowd will be predominately for the Hoyas. Probably the biggest crowd of the season so far. GO HOYAS!!!

I think we should temper expectations as relates to the crowd. GU is still on break, so there will be no student section. We might still have a good non-student crowd, but the atmosphere would be better with a student section.

Our best wins last year by RPI: Seton Hall (25), butler (43). They were our only Top 50 wins. Hard to say where this SJU team will end up, but at the moment their RPI is 24. While I wouldn't call this anywhere near a signature win, this would rank among the top 3 wins of the last season and a half, IMO.
