Time to win at Hinkle. Carry over today’s defensive effort.

I think 2-2 in the first four BE games should be the goal. To me this is the toughest of the four, so a win here would be huge. For some reason in recent years Hinkle has been kind to us. Hoping that trend continues.

Hope every player feels some confidence after today.
As always - defense and rebounding win games in the Big East.

Butler starts down 21-0 to Florida today. gulp 8-28 from the floor and 2-10 from three while giving up 69% to your opponent in the first half will do that

Butler starts down 21-0 to Florida today. gulp Getting blitzed by 25 at half. We’ll be getting an angry team Wednesday.

Or maybe they will suffer a crisis of confidence.

Beat Florida by seven at the Battle 4 Atlantis and then lose to them by 34 (away) five weeks later. Weird.

That’s the miracle of having contemporary game tape and putting it to use.

Is it just me, or does anyone else just have no idea what’s in store for this season, between Big East parity, a second year coach, 4 new players playing a lot of our minutes, and pretty inconclusive non conference play?
I could honestly see us finish last in conference just as easily as see us end up in a big east tournament semifinal game.
Either way, agree with what many posters have said, we are much more exciting to watch losing than many of JTiii’s winning teams towards end of his tenure. Here is hoping for some BE success!

Jordan Tucker "revenge game." Gotta contain Baldwin and Jorgensen. Josh will be huge on the glass, could use some nice tip slams. They don't have anyone for Govan, we need him bad this game. Butler will in all likelihood try to slow this game down, we can't let that happen.

My biggest concern is probably Jorgenson and McDermott obliterating us from outside when we collapse too quickly on Baldwin. It's a staple for them and a weakness for us.

I haven't noticed a huge defensive weakness in helojng down on post players, more of an issue over helping on penetration and getting lost with rotational ball movement. I could be wrong on that though as it's been so bad nailing down the specifics of what's causing 3 wide open shooters each possession has been tricky. I do worry about our interior D and think this would be a good game to get Carter going on offense defense.

Butler is playing at a very slow pace this season - 320 in the country. I'm sure they will try to make the game as much of a slog as possible. Baldwin always seems to kill us - he really has not been playing all that well so far this season. His offensive rating is only 99.3. Tucker has been scoring well in limited time, almost all on 50%+ three point shooting. McDermott and Jorgenson are both shooting over 40% from 3 on a lot of attempts. In general, they shoot a lot of 3s. Over 40% of their shots are 3s, and they are shooting almost 37% from 3 as a team. Seems likely that how well/poorly they shoot will be one of the key factors in the game. mcDermott on the "pick and pop" is what worries me. Jessie does not defend this well, and I'm sure Butler will run it over and over. The combo of McDermott from 3 and Baldwin getting into the lane off "pick and pop" sets would seem to be the formula for the Butler offense against us.

Makes sense for how it could bite them against us. They miss those 3's, long shots lead to long rebounds which leads to fast break points. That's how we are to win this game. Starts with defense.

Team definitely took a step in the right direction on Saturday. We've been waiting for a definitive positive result against a cupcake all year and the team finally delivered with a decent collective effort on both ends. Don't think we saw a peak-level Govan yet on the offensive end but he definitely made positive strides compared to the prior few games. Not sure the reason for it but he seems a bit tentative with his outside shot in recent games. We will need him to continue trending in the right direction for us to have a chance to get a big road win here. Our overall defensive effort was a bit better but that was a really bad Howard team so we need to take that with a grain of salt.
I've been one of the guys who has really been low on Mosely but I really think his steadiness and defense has provided a lift the past few games. Would still like to see him eliminate the 1-2 careless drives into traffic that end up in a charge/turnover per game, but he's clearly carved out a significant role for this team.
Wondering what Mac's status is heading into Wed. I think offensively we can survive without him, but for depth purposes (seems like our games at Hinkle are always foul fests for some reason) we really need him to provide some minutes at the guard spots.
Not expecting to win this game but it would be a huge start to the conference season to steal this victory and pick up a quality win. It's one of those games that if this team has any expectation of finishing in the top 4-5 in the league, it needs to have. It's certainly capable.

Butler is a pretty average team. Maybe they'll improve as the season goes on, particularly if Tucker and Brunk develop as they gain experience. But right now - I think we are the more talented team, even if Mac does not play. They are well coached and road games are always tough, but this might be our best non-DePaul shot at a road win this season. So it would be nice to take this one, but we depend on young players so much that every conference road game is going to present the challenge of key players learning to thrive in a tough environment. The young guys showed well at Illinois and Syracuse -- if we can play with that kind of focus and intensity at Butler, we definitely have a good shot at winning.
