Not sure if it started this game against providence or I didn’t notice it before, but they started showing frequent replays (sponsored by Geico) here in the stadium. If only there were something good to replay... This is very disheartening...

So how about some recognition for the back to back 10000+ vocal crowds? Seemed pretty lively and pretty loud to me and showed well on the highlights I saw.
As we saw today Cap One is often not as much of a negative as some would make it out to be.

The student attendance was encouraging. Coming off two losses, they still filled most of the lower bowl student seats. Nowhere near the best student attendance of the JTIII days, when for really big games both ends of the court were filled through two levels, with some 400 level spillover. But this was the most student attendance (outside of maybe Syracuse, Maryland, or Nova games) in the last 3 years.

Although I joked about government furlough effect earlier, I wonder how many freebies were actually given out.

They've been doing it all year, but it's definitely new this year and was one of my complaints against Cap one in the past the fact that they never used to show replays. They still shy away from showing controversial calls, but it's nice to get to see replays of good plays.

Interestingly I noticed it during the first half when they showed a replay of a questionable foul call that the crowd was groaning about and I was kind of shocked that they showed that replay.

That stood out. In my section we always joked that they would never show replays during our games because our crowd would go crazy. Let’s see if that continues if attendance begins to improve.

I posted in another thread but how is St John's allowed to play big home BE games in that bandbox? Can I assume that we will play them in MSG?

Yes we always play them in MSG That's at St. John's discretion, of course. Villanova has played Georgetown at the Spectrum and the Spectrum II/Core States/Wachovia/Wells Fargo Center since 1983, but moved two games to the DuPont Pavilion in 2004 and 2006. It plays five of nine Big East games on campus. Here's the off campus breakdown of the other schools: Creighton: 1.2 miles DePaul: 9 miles Georgetown: 4 miles Marquette: 0.9 miles Providence: 3 miles Seton Hall: 4 miles

We played Villanova in the Pavilion in 2017. Last year they played all their home games at the Wells Fargo Center as the Pavilion was under renovation.

Marketing lingo at its finest: "In Phase II, to be completed in the summer of 2019, we’re completely transforming the in-bowl experience..."Wow, what could that be? Ummm... 1. Another video board? Check. 2. More overpriced concessions that aren't open during GU games anyway? Check. 3. Repricing seats in the lower bowl as "luxury" seats? Check. If they really want to transform the experience, start with these: 1. Unsold seats in the lower bowl 15 minutes prior to game time are opened up via an app for fans to reseat themselves. 2. Pre-purchase concessions as part of a ticket. Show a barcode at the counter and that's it. 3. 50/50 raffles. In Canada a raffle winner took home almost US$400K one evening. 4. Fair (and I repeat, fair) prices on concessions, as is the case in Atlanta. "Monumental" should not describe the markup on food at the arena. Examples: and finally... 5. No teal jerseys.

Let's be clear. Monumental has no control over teal jerseys. ;-P

Maybe they can turn it into a more efficient screening facility, like they did at Dulles a few years back... I keeed! I keeed! DC clearly needs a slots, off-track & sports book facility to maintain it's status Seriously, though, as FL said a bit back, they've got to do a better job at the gates. For goodness sake, take some of the 50 people standing unnecessarily at the section entrances (can't risk someone sitting in a wrong seat in the corners or the 400s, can we?) and start them off at the entrances, supported by twice the metal detectors currently employed. How about making it a goal that anyone arriving at the arena with tickets in hand/on device makes it to their seat within 15 minutes? DC has enough alums from elsewhere, and enough collateral reason for a trip by out-of-towners, for opposing teams to have a good number of fans in the stands; as it's just once a year for them, they'll much more likely be there early than we. Get us riled up with more replays of controversial calls, as noted above. Don't treat the students like inmates (they're not Orange, Terps or Mountaineers, for whom I'd expect such to be necessary, and they're not the ones being served beer, in any case). Bring back the dancing decibels from the Cap Center (about the only thing, outside of our performance, that I miss about that place). Help us help the team to a freakin' advantage! Let the HOYA! . . SAXA! cheer be independently generated or, at least, follow just the drum beat (however we might feel about an emcee for other duties during interludes). Do we really need to be coached on that? Never again have a rival conference's upcoming event prominently advertised inside or outside of the arena on a game day. Oh, and no teal. Wait, that's a Nike thing, right? Let me tie it in, then. WE SHOULD WEAR *GRAY* AT WHAT SHOULD BE OUR *HOME*!

The ticket office recently let me know that for the 2019-20 season the 400 level of Capital One Arena will no longer be available to season ticket holders. The stated reasons are that lack of demand leads them to want to save money on concessions and ushers in the 400s. I was told that it is possible the level will open for single game ticket sales for selected games. I was also told that for now this is a one year decision and that each season will be evaluated individually going forward.
Some of this is understandable and some is misinformation. For example, they can't save any money on concession stands because no concession stands were open in the 400s for the last couple of seasons. They can save money on usher's salaries, although I'm sure the ushers aren't happy about that. Also, to my eye the level of demand has not declined in the last year... it has been the same low level for at least the last three. Still, given the level of attendance recently it is hard to argue that the decision isn't justified.
So, I got my seats of 15 or so seasons taken away... but the ticket office gave me pretty good compensation for them by upgrading me for free to good seats in the 200 level for next season. Just for next season though. What happens after that remains to be seen.
Hopefully the team's success rebuilds the brand enough to get the 400's occupied again and this is all eventually water under the bridge.

Welcome to the lower bowl!
That decision was a long time coming. I know you love the 400s and I understand the reason why but the atmosphere for both the players and the TV will be better with more people in the 100s/200s.
Better tell them to reserve your center court 400 seats when they open the section back up after we win the tournament next year.

The price increase is tough ($199 in the 400 level vs $299 at center court in the 200 level this past season), though at least most of the increase is the donation level which goes to the university ($0 in the 400 level vs $300 at center court in the 200 level this past season). There are cheaper options in the lower bowl, though you would be in a corner ($249 plus $50 donation).
