The ticket office recently let me know that for the 2019-20 season the 400 level of Capital One Arena will no longer be available to season ticket holders. The stated reasons are that lack of demand leads them to want to save money on concessions and ushers in the 400s. I was told that it is possible the level will open for single game ticket sales for selected games. I was also told that for now this is a one year decision and that each season will be evaluated individually going forward. Some of this is understandable and some is misinformation. For example, they can't save any money on concession stands because no concession stands were open in the 400s for the last couple of seasons. They can save money on usher's salaries, although I'm sure the ushers aren't happy about that. Also, to my eye the level of demand has not declined in the last year... it has been the same low level for at least the last three. Still, given the level of attendance recently it is hard to argue that the decision isn't justified. So, I got my seats of 15 or so seasons taken away... but the ticket office gave me pretty good compensation for them by upgrading me for free to good seats in the 200 level for next season. Just for next season though. What happens after that remains to be seen. Hopefully the team's success rebuilds the brand enough to get the 400's occupied again and this is all eventually water under the bridge. CC400, I am glad they did the right thing and offered those at the same price. I hope they continue that and reward your loyalty. I have always been a proponent of this approach preferably with a curtain for the 400's. We need everybody in the 100's and 200's and they should reward long term ticket holders like your self (and me) with some incentives to maintain those tickets (maybe concession vouchers or since security was a racket, maybe a clear or TSA pre-check entry for season ticket holders).

Just be aware that the accessible seating area in the 400 section is really preferable to the accessible seating in the 200 area. Usually when we try to get seating in the lower bowl we are consigned to accessible seating in the corners of the court. From Section 401 we have a great view of the entire court and also an family/handicapped restroom right outside the section. BTW, the concession stands are open for games with bigger anticipated crowds.

I will say the atmosphere when attending SHU games in the Pru Center is much better with the upper level closed off. You really do not even notice the upper section is closed.

The ticket office didn't say anything about dropping curtains and I didn't ask. But given that there couldn't have been more than 15 - 25 season ticket holders up there I really doubt that making us move down is going to change the atmosphere at all. It is really just a money saving move for Georgetown.
I'm happy with the ticket office's compensation this season. But since they aren't guaranteeing anything for later seasons, talk to me in a year and we'll see if I feel the same way.
Good point about accessible seats as well. My sister and I used them once in the 400s after she had knee surgery and the view and ease of use were excellent.

OK, now can we get some replays on controversial calls or dunks, etc. Let's use that bad boy. Also, can you hit me with the lowered lights for atmosphere. Lots of the things that can be done are within reach with minimal effort.

Replays of dunks will be nice. We have a number of above-the-rim dudes now.

I can't believe I've missed this whole discussion, but I have only one thing to say about Capital One Arena: it has got to be the brightest goddamn arena in the history of sports. It feels like you're sitting in a dentist's chair the entire time you're there. It makes it feel like you're supposed to leave because the concert just ended. It in no way helps you focus on the game and really accentuates the lack of atmosphere that both the Hoyas and Wizards suffer from.

What does that mean? Does that mean you can go in there and bet on sports all day?

So the new scoreboards are pretty impressive and they are actually showing in-game replays this season, but I noticed last night that the Out Of Town scores they post on the video boards in the corners use the team nicknames instead of the school names. Unless you REALLY know your college basketball teams well it is very difficult to figure out who they are referring to. For example, last night there were two separate games with one of the participants listed simply as "Bulldogs". If I had known who the opponent was I maybe could have figured out who the schools were but for the most part the result is a lot of useless info. Perhaps it works for the pros where each team's nickname is unique and prominent but whoever thought it would work for college teams needs to think again.

I think i've seen people ask - either here or in other threads - whether or not the team could play some games at the new Mystics/G-League arena in Southeast. Just came across this email saying Michigan plays Prarie View here on November 13: mailchi.mp/eventsdc.com/coachesvsracism?e=49650ace84

Brilliant to play a game like this with all the recruiting he does in the DC area.

People would always complain when was a undergrad about how it could burn like an hour of your night just getting there and back, personally I really like GW's arena (not to actually play as I know people would lose their minds if we shared it them or something) very intimate and close and solid and actually within walking distance of the school lol
