Should be a fun few days of practice before this one. Let's see if Patrick's tough love can lead to more intensity. Especially on defense.

According to the current NET ranking this would be a huge upset for us We are currently ranked 80th and Liberty is 41st...

I looked at the Liberty roster and they seem to be a pretty small team. I think they only have two players 6'9 or taller and both are freshman. I would assume they probably play a 3, or even 4, guard system and spread the floor and shoot a lot of threes. This could give the Hoyas problems, but also gives them a chance to work on some of the issues they have had lately.
Play with more intensity and impose their will on the game and the Hoyas should be able to get another win.

This game will be tough. They dropped Navy by 18 and played a relatively tight game against Vandy.

I know people see "Liberty" and think they are awful, but they are pretty good this year, and only slightly worse than us on metrics like KenPom. So basically, it's a wide open game.
Sagarin: Georgetown 120, Liberty 129 KenPom: Georgetown 97, Liberty 117.
Keep in mind we lost to Loyola Marymount (115 Sagarin, 124 KenPom) and needed OT to beat USF (209 on Sagarin, 240 KenPom). We have not been very good this year, even in our wins. Don't get me wrong - I am very happy we are 6-1, it's just going to take a lot more than we have put forth up to this point to avoid the loss column from growing.

What I see is that they score a lot of points regardless of their competition, and we have allowed a lot of points regardless of the competition. Lets get our butts down on defense (not you, Trey).

A good 3-pt shooting team (35%), a 5'9" high-usage freshman and a tough 6'1" Puerto Rican guard... three things that have given us fits this season... just what the doctor ordered... will GU be up for the challenge?

This game will be all about EFFORT. Especially on the defensive end.

I think the issue is a bit more nuanced than just effort vs lack thereof. This year's Hoyas have shown that when in a fight they will FIGHT. Much of the time and when necessary they employ great amounts of effort and will battle tooth and nail. Akinjo and his late game heroics are a great example. What they haven't yet shown is the will to dominate an opponent when they have an obvious advantage and demoralize & demolish when the opportunity arises. Hopefully they will get some chances to practice that in upcoming games.

Over the course of the season, I have hope that this problem will work itself out. But sooner rather than later would be best. Far more concerned about the porous defense.

We have a scoring margin of only +5 against a pretty awful schedule. Even last year’s team had won multiple games by over 20 at this point last year, and as a result the efficiency scores are not pretty this year.

I know Coach McKay from his time at New Mexico when my brother-in-law worked with him. He is a good coach and a better man and his team will be well-prepared for the Hoyas. Any let-down in focus and anything less than a high-energy effort will lead to a loss. On talent alone this game should be a Hoya victory, but that formula has not resulted in many easy victories in recent years. Another big test for the guards and I hope that their focus is on playing inside first and then if necessary kicking it out for the perimeter shot.

Has anyone seen Liberty play? What defense do they use? Zone, mtm, etc...?

How quickly you've blocked the memory of 2017-18 season from your mind. We dipped into the 100s in December. We improved (slightly) once league play began, but then fell down even further in Jan and Feb. We climbed back up but never exited the 90s. We finished at 96.

Wow, that is a big oversight/mistake on my part. I honestly did not remember that! Good call. You are right, though - after losing to Syracuse we fell to 101, then bounced around until hitting our bottom at 115 about January 27, 2018. I knew we finished at 96 but hadn't remembered the fall below 100. What can I say, my memory isn't what it was when I was a Hoya undergraduate.

I'm nervous for this one. Liberty is a very good team and this team has looked incredibly beatable. These guys seem like they can beat us. This will have to be one of our better games if we want to win. We've gotta play hard. Jamorko's gotta pick it up. These next 3 games will determine how good this team is. This is a game we need and one we can lose. You can't overlook these guys. A very well rounded, well coached team. Need this one. This could be the game that come march gets us in or leaves us out.

We are also due for a game where the outside shots fall. 🙂👍🏻
