Illini are picked to finish 2nd to last in B1G. We are acting like they are world beaters based on beating Evansville. It sounds like a tough match up for both teams so it really comes down to how we defend tonight. Well stated...

It is likely to come down to who values possessions and gets off the highest quality shots in the final 3-5 minutes. To that end, our frosh guards are untested and it might make for a painful ending, but we need to approach this game confidently and punch them in the mouth in the first 10 minutes. Tonight is not a "must win" game for the Hoyas but it is a good barometer for where the team is now and what are reasonable expectations going forward this year. I have watched a few of the other Big East teams over the last week or so and it looks like every team in the conference has strengths and weaknesses they need to work on as the season progresses, so the league should be pretty wide open this year. If I had to guess now, I would think Nova is the most complete team and Marquette will be tough all year with the way they can score but the Hoyas should not be over matched in any games this year. The Hoyas just need to keep improving every practice and every game and they should be very competitive for the entire season.

If McClung plays m,ore than Blair and Mosley I think it is a mistake. McClung is very athletic and incident but stil is learning. I would prefer to see him brought along more slowly and not paired with Akinjo. Strongly disagree. He and James are the best guards on the team on both ends and the future of the program. I want both playing 30 minutes a night. Jagan and Juggy are clear backups with very little upside. You don't play clear backups over potential star talent. Believe me I hope you are right, but my eyes saw something different than you did. Mosley is not a shooter but his handle is fine and his defense is better than McClung--in my opinion. Blair is a superior shooter, with a weaker handle. I think that Akinjo should start every game and play as much as possible. I think that McClung should play a lot but right now I just think he is not as advanced as Akinjo and lacking on the defensive end. Here's hoping he proves you right though.

I'm not convinced with Mosley's handle. He has too many careless giveaways without being a player who looks to thread the needle with his passes or do flashy plays. Keep pushing the freshmen before BE play, then set the rotations.

Mosley is valuable as an option when bringing the ball up the court against pressure but Akinjo is much better at distributing and at running the offense. Mosley absolutely must develop a confident 3 ball to get playing time beyond 3rd guard and spot defensive assignments.

IMHO, until Mac settles in to the 2 guard role, he looks most effective playing the point alongside Blair. . Maybe it should be Akinjo with Mosely to start, then bring in Mac and Blair together. Ultimately, of course, it’s Macinjo, but it’s going to take awhile....

Willing to live or die with the freshman backcourt. Love Blair as the spark plug off the bench. Mosely needs to show me he belongs out there.

Its 2nd/3rd game of the season. Not a lot of sharp money out there yet. Betters banking on the tried and true formula of freshmen backcourt wilting in 1st true road game.
