Eric Bossi wrote the following about Gardner in March: “ A key member of one of high school basketball's most entertaining teams, three-star wing Myron Gardner of Geneva (Ohio) Spire Institute is having a big senior season. An intense competitor with big time athleticism, Gardner plays above the rim in transition and can be a lockdown defender at multiple positions. “

The era of the Charmin-soft Hoyas is over! Bless their hearts. Congrats to Myron, his family, Pat and the coaching staff! I clicked on the like button on this one 100 times but it's a damn toggle.

This is a great get for so many reasons, including defense, class balance, and adding a talented wing.

The more I watch this kid in highlights and read about him, the more excited I get. Beyond his aggressiveness and athleticism, he seems like a good passer as well. Such a great addition!

Watching film of Gardner, Ledlum and Shannon you can easily envision a line-up with a 6'10" rim protector, two small speedy forwards with great handles and two speedy guards (McClung and Akinjo). Run, run, run, run, run like a sonuvagun to an NCAA championship. Speed kills! For some sick, masochistic reason, I recently re-watched the 1996 BE finals game against UConn. One key take-away for me was how quick up the floor Iverson and Page played the game. And Jerome Williams as a PF rebounding and leading the break with a great handle was a real weapon. We had a lot of speed on that team and it certainly killed most opponents (unfortunately, not UConn that night...still hurts...)… That game ripped my heart out! Didn’t Ray Allen hit a turn around jump at the foul line to win the game or some chit like that?!?

Sigh. But back to the original topic, I think we are headed back to the top, and this signing is part of it!

Spire Institute lost The Grind Session World Championship...to Zion Harmon and Buena Vista Prep 96-94 LeMelo 26 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists. Our guy-- Myron Gardner 30 points and 10 rebounds! Please somebody go get this guy😁! Done!

Qudus and Myron underrated too. Should be higher imo. They have come on late as far as scoring goes and it's evident in their most recent box scores. They have always been at least decent on defense. I think we are still missing a high percentage 3 point shooter but hopefully one of the guys develops into one.

Blair, Akinjo and Carter need to be close to 40% from 3......maybe Yurt7 and/or Morko...but I'm banking on Carter making a jump....

What about Mac, if he is gonna stay in PE good graces he needs to improve as well?

I remember when he first took the job he was questioned about his ability to recruit, well I think he's answering all the naysayers. Another good point to add on in regards to his recruiting, when these underrated recruits start to develop into a winning team more talent will come.

That ranking also gives no credit for Yurt and Allen.

That ranking also gives no credit for Yurt and Allen. This is very true. I’d be shocked if this team isn’t top 25 preseason.

We're getting some press, but still a lot of questions to answer for voters who do not follow the team and just read that we have seven players coming in and our top scorer left. We will be in after the Duke game.

But as I said yesterday, we have a lot of new pieces that have to learn to play together, it could take a couple of months before we start to roll.
