So Govan is only one of the best bigs of the Big East? Shouldn't he be going into this season as the assumed best big in the Big East until proven otherwise as well as one of the best bigs in the country? I mean his numbers actually back that up. This writeup is trash. And by the way substitute Jahvon Blair for Mosely.

Blue Ribbon picks us to finish 8th in their preview, ahead of only Creighton and DePaul. They don't really give a specific postseason prediction - but an 8th place finish would't get us much more than a sniff at the NIT.
Jessie is projected 1st team BE. Ponds is their POY. Quinerly - newcomer.
Otherwise - the writeup has all the usual angles about the solid class Pat brought in, and how good the team will be hinges on how well the FR & SO play around Jessie. They have a quote from Pat about just every player on the squad - but not too much more than coach-speak.
Team Grades: Backcourt B Frontcourt B+ Bench/Depth C+ Intangibles B
Not in the top 3 backcourts (SJU, Marquette, Butler) or frontcourts (Providence, Villanova, Marquette)

Because all the bookstores are closed and less grocery stores have magazine sections, I was like a man dying of thirst when I came across a copy of Street & Smith combined NBA-College Basketball Preview. Finally! A college basketball magazine, albeit not my fave publisher. Anyway I rushed to the Big East section and saw the Hoyas were picked 9th, only ahead of DePaul. And get this...Seton Hall was picked fourth! Fourth despite losing four of their of five best players. Xavier was picked fifth despite losing its top three scorers, including a First Team All Big East player, its top four rebounders and their freakin' head coach. And not only that...Xavier was picked as one of the five teams who could make the Final Four for the first time this season. I Kid You Not. Butler and Creighton got picked ahead of Georgetown too despite losing more than Georgetown. It's as if these editors/writers didn't bother to pay attention to the fact that the Hoyas could have easily one five to six more games last season in a TOUGHER Big East if they could just hold on to late leads.
Also Govan did not make the predicted three All Big East Teams, none of our newcomers were put on the All-Newcomer group and Blair couldn't even crack the All-Sharpshooter squad. Back in the day this stuff used to rile me up but maturity and perspective now makes me shrug this off and laugh. It is what it is. Let's get the season going so our Hoyas can prove them wrong.

You can't fix stupid. I guess there's a good reason they're not your favorite publisher. Personally, I'm happy to hear that the Hoyas are rated so poorly. Seems to me a guy like Akinjo will love hating that.

So by all means, rank us in the bottom 3 of the conference - it can only help us.

I don't know Akinjo at all but I love that kid's demeanor. I have a feeling he's going to supplant LJ's photo in my profile sooner than later. He just has that look of hating to lose at anything and looks to have the potential to back it up.

After Jabril left, there was a time where our team felt soft. This is not to say that the guys wouldn’t putting forth effort ...the players just really didn’t have that killer instinct. Well ...from what I am hearing, those days are over and it starts and ends with both Akinjo and McClung. Both guys are Uber competitive in practice....almost to a fault. They are going after each other so hard that we’ve haven’t seen this level of intensity in practice in many, many years. hopefully, it’s infectious.

Thanks for this and other inside tidbits over the years, B&G. Much appreciated.
