Seems like Derrickson is getting a lot of workouts. Is that normal for all draft entries even if they are expected to be undrafted or could this be a good sign for his chance to at least get a summer camp invite?

Seems like Derrickson is getting a lot of workouts. Is that normal for all draft entries even if they are expected to be undrafted or could this be a good sign for his chance to at least get a summer camp invite? Each year there are a few that don't make it to the combine, but get quite a few workouts. Often this comes with a player transformation and / or a late Spring highlight game or few. Videos of solid transformation and skill improvement can trigger these. Most often these players will not only play in Summer League, but make G-League. Seeing the transformation Derrickson made after he made his decision to declare and take an agent could be driving the interest, but his videos of his workouts have been showing improvement. I don't think he would be drafted, but could end up with a 2-way G-League. There are a few teams that snag players with size and shooting that get rebounds and have solid basketball IQ. They are also teams who have salary cap issues, but will likely need to fill out a roster with inexpensive players that fit their mold. Here are 10 not drafted players who played / play in the NBA - www.wruf.com/profiles/2017/11/05/ones-defied-odds-top-10-undrafted-nba-players-time/

Sports Illustrated ranks him 85th best draft prospect.

I still don’t get it. It’s a new world I suppose.

For those who follow the NBA draft closely, can anyone provide a comparison between Derrickson and the forwards drafted in the 2nd round?

I got a bit of criticism for saying he wouldn’t be drafted and that in purely basketball terms he should have stayed in school. Although I will stipulate that I don’t know his personal financial or educational status

He never had a prayer of getting drafted. He doesn't have a position he can defend.

I was having a similar argument about Govan with a fellow season ticket holder. I argued that he should clearly return while he thought Govan had a shot as a 2nd round pick. I am glad he chose to return.

Although I will stipulate that I don’t know his personal financial or educational status If basketball is to be his career, I can’t fault him for wanting to play for money now and devoting himself full time to that pursuit. He may recognize that his best chance of making money for a significant period of time is to go all in right now. I know nothing of his finances or his education aspirations or achievements. I hope he avails himself of the opportunity to finish his degree while honing his craft.

I just hope that there wasn't some animus there and lingering after the social media dust storm that was kicked up over the comment made by Coach. I am still scratching my head, like everyone else, I suppose, why he didn't leave the door open to coming back.

This, from Kevin Willard...
“I think guys get a little bit too wrapped up if they get drafted or not,” Pirates coach Kevin Willard said Monday. “I think sometimes it can be better [if you don’t get drafted] because your agent can put you with a team that actually needs you. So I think that’s a good thing.”
Hopefully, this can offer some solace to our guy, Derrickson.
Can't believe Angel Delgado was not drafted.
On the other hand, very proud that fellow Bahamian, Ashton Ayton was selected first, in the first round.

I am still scratching my head, like everyone else, I suppose, why he didn't leave the door open to coming back. From what I heard his decision was an economic one, as in his family was in need. So even if he has to play in some G league or overseas that cash can go a long way for his family. If there is any truth to this I can use his decision better.

I don't think anyone here thought Marcus had a shot at getting drafted though, for his sake, it would have been nice for us all to have been surprised.
Marcus seems like a solid dude with a good head on his shoulders. He made a decision for his future and I hope it works out better than he could have hoped or expected. Best of luck to him.

I believe I read somewhere that his agents specialized in placing players in Australia/New Zealand which wouldn't be bad destinations. English speaking and easier environment to operate in. Or even Israel. Brandon Bowman played there for a number of years. He could end up playing for Kevin Braswell who is coaching in NZ last I heard.

I hear you, but I am thinking about what it could have meant for him if he had persevered for one more year. His trajectory as far as development was amazing. I do understand if it were economics, however.
