I would think unfortunately he will be looking for more than 10-15 minutes backing up Jessie. It would be a hard sell I think for Ewing in that regard. This would be a great addition if he was willing to take that role. This is not an exaggeration he dominated Bamba when they played in Texas. Had 15 and 11 and monster block on Bamba. Bamba had 4 and 7. He has gone from a horrible FT shooter (59.3%) to a very good one for a big (74.5%). He also doubled his blocks per game last season from the prior one. I see no reason why he couldn't start at the pf spot. He's more ready than LeBlanc and Walker at the moment. He played some 4 at Tennessee st True. Walker, Carter and LeBlanc have 183 minutes of NCAA basketball between the 3 of them. Compare this to a grad transfer. Of course, it all depends if 7 is coming...

Christian Mekowulu was a pretty efficient player (105.1), rebounded on both ends pretty well, 87th nationally in block %, and the 6th highest free throw rate in the country (128/178 on FTs - 74%). He only shot 4 threes and made two of them.
If the guy is as good on defense as described above, it would be a no brainer to sign him up, if he was a good fit.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. We need size. And he has it worth athleticism.

As highly as I think of the incoming freshman and the players we have, I don't see Christian having any trouble finding good minutes on our team this year. Throw in that he'd get a one year graduate degree on how to play like a NBA big and this is no-brainer for BOTH of them.

Anything to indicate interest by either side at this point?

No not at the moment, but haven't heard anything regarding other schools involved either. Just quiet.

Where's he from...size...position, etc?...if he's been at Stanford, he values academics...Kentucky would be a big step down in that regard...love to see Hoyas get involved...

If he's a graduate transfer from Stanford, he's already got his degree from Stanford. So I'm not sure any step down would really matter to him.

Yeah, if you've already got the BA from Stanford but want to make the NBA...you're going for the program that for one year will maximize your exposure and preparation (putting aside whether Kentucky does the latter). He's not going to decide based on academics at all. He's set degree-wise. This decision is going to be about getting to the NBA.

Could he backed Govan at the 5? I imagine he wants a lot of minutes, but if so, he could get pt at 4 & 5.

Travis is really good. Kentucky makes perfect sense -high profile final season to maximize his exposure. nobody focuses more on publicizing the NBA prospects of their players more heavily than Kentucky. that is Calipari's driving principle.

No way is he looking at Kentucky with his last year to make splash. Not going to go somewhere where he is splitting minutes with a bunch of puppies. I think Villanova's a more realistic landing spot with Spellman staying in the draft. Notre Dame is another program that plays at high level and has had tremendous success with undersized Bigs...

The way they pursued the big kid who decided to go to St Bonnie's you would think there was one available, but that was before Jessie announced he was coming back for his senior year. I would think that the best grad transfers only want to go to a program where they know they will get a lot of PT, which is not necessarily the case at Georgetown for next year, depending on who the player is and which position he plays. A few years ago it made sense for Pryor to come to the program because they needed a scoring wing so badly he knew he would play a lot. I would think that most of the high level grad transfers are not going to want to be role players coming off the bench.

Unless Ewing was looking to give him the bulk of the minutes at the 4 this year, he should have better options than Georgetown. In terms of scholarships, here's my understanding. In January Ewing said he had two more scholarships for next year (looking for a big and a combo guard). He then signed Akinjo and Yurtseven, and Derrickson left. So I would think there would still be the potential for one open scholarship, assuming that nothing else has changed related to players on the current roster that were going to be on scholarship or not.

I'm a fan of our freshmen, but if Travis were to come here, he would certainly get 28-30 minutes a game. He's that good. He may not have Derrickson's range, but he's much better than Marcus in a number of areas. How would he not get major minutes?

We not getting Travis Reid, so let's move on. He going to a blue blood school. He wants exposure at a top 10 school.
