I know Derrickson is having a solid year for us but does anyone else think he plays a bit lazy at times? I see when he turns the ball over he doesn't sprint back to help defend? IDK.. Theres something about him that seems a bit off.. Any other thoughts???

Wow, you pick the day after the game Doc almost literally carried the team on his back, to complain that "something seems off"?
Marcus and Jessie are playing huge minutes with lack of big man depth. I can live with them lagging behind a play or two on defense.

Again, attendance is fine imo. But if you're going to go, maybe clap during made baskets? Complain when the refs are jobbinng the home team? And there is a whole first half of a basketball where there are no rules against taking and making sounds, I promise. I drive in from Delaware for EVERY game, including the MEAC dog games. I sit in section 101 and am constantly clapping, cheering and riding the refs the best I can from 11 rows off the court. I have to remember to keep it clean as there are some children in my area. Most (not all) of those around me (season ticket holders) are also doing the same. I thought the students did a good job at the St. John's game with defense chants and L-R-L-R when a Johnnie fouled out. My only complaint is that our "cheerleaders" don't really seem to lead many cheers. They are more of a dance team. The students started chants, not the cheerleaders who are typically positioned in front of the pep band and generally not in front of the student section. I guess if you complain about the crowd here you are complaining to the wrong crowd. Those of us who participate in Hoya Talk are likely the most fanatical of the fans who are fortunate enough (financially and timewise) to attend the games and even do so in bad years. Hoya Saxa!! Why don't you take the train in? How long a drive is that 3-3 and a half hours? 7 hour roundtrip?

Plus, as a still relatively recent retiree I still have a condo in the DC area for the time being and plan my fall/winter schedule around the basketball schedule. But I still have never skipped any games. It takes 2:45 w/o traffic to drive in from Bethany Beach. In my crazy youth, I once flew out of Dulles at 7:00 am for 1:00 pm court appearance in Seattle, had the hearing, and returned to the airport to take the redeye back just to see the Hoyas at the Cap Centre.

Maybe this game will be the turning point for the team. They are not going to win the BE regular season but now they have some confidence and reward for all the hard work. Let's hope they build on it, and win a few games they didn't think they could before.

St. John's was only going to go as far as their backcourt of Ponds/Lovett carried them. With Lovett out for the season, they weren't going far at all. They still have enough talent to be competitive though.

Let's hope they build on it, and win a few games they didn't think they could before. Sorry but all this win did is make it less likely that we won't finish in the BE cellar. My pre-season prediction was a 7-11 BE record. But after yesterday's game I'd be surprised if we can do it. We're just too weak at the guard position. We have no on court leader and too many guys who have terrible handles. In my mind our only chance of getting to 7 BE wins is for Mosley to grow into the guard job, Pickett to mature quickly, and Johnson to show some of the aggression he showed against the cupcakes. If all that happens we might beat Marquette, Providence, and Seton Hall at home and get to 7-11.

They still have enough talent to be competitive though. They seem to have some real talent. The problem is they can be at times more disjointed and discombobulated than us.

Theres something about him that seems a bit off.. Any other thoughts??? No. And if true, Ewing would address that. He looks tired most of the time. Not because he isn't in shape, but because he is asked to do so much for this team. He is a workhorse, like his coach when he was in the pros. Used to be a running joke about how Ewing would be dripping with sweat right after the jump ball. lol That is just how he runs. It is just a style thing. He is playing hard. It is deceptive. Looks like he is a step slower, when he really isn't.

Thank God, Ewing has shown he is his own man. He knows the horses he have in the stable. As JT3 once said, it doesn't matter who starts the game, but who finishes. Just love Mosely's attitude about coming off the bench. You're Wright ...yes yes yes...

He’s often much bigger than the wiry guys he has to defend on the perimeter.

Well, it certainly turned out to be exciting, if nothing else.
I was prepared to write that there are only three things guaranteed in life, death, taxes and Georgetown losing overtime games at home, and then a mini-miracle occurred. We couldn't even beat St. John's in OT with their having fouled three men out. And then came the mini-miracle. But the game should never have gone to overtime in the first place. Too many screw-ups in the last two minutes. Missed free throws, turnovers (I particularly loved the held ball turnover), and inability to get defensive rebounds (Butler again, anyone?). And it looked like yet another overtime L, until it wasn't.
Pickett, welcome to Georgetown. We've been waiting for your arrival. Even more than the good shooting, I was particularly happy about the nine rebounds. It was good to see him mix it up under the glass, for the first time.
Mosley is our best point guard, warts and all. I know that isn't saying much.
I was happy that we were able to hang in during the first half, when Govan's time was seriously limited by foul problems. Nice job by him committing no fouls in the second half.
Blair is a keeper. As I've said before, he tends to be more a volume shooter than a good shooter, but he's fearless, and I see a solid career ahead for him.

Pickett grew up right before our eyes today!!! Amazing. I love college is hoops. He's got to follow it up in the upcoming games, become consistent. Only 3 in the Vesper half. Like most, I'm hopeful, though. He made some "key" rebounds and passes.

Eh, only in the sense that they are of that same mold of 6-7/6-6ish tweener type forward. Like Barkley, Draymond Green, etc. Johnson was power and strength. Just a force inside. He could hit the occasional jump shot and 3 (remember the famous 4 pt play with the Knicks?), but he was mostly power and inside. While not as strong or powerful as Larry, Marcus is more balanced in that he could get his in the paint, but also from the perimeter. It is hard to really compare Marcus to anybody really.

Remember that Larry Johnson was one of the top 3 or so players in college and an elite NBA guy(before back injury-lost some of his explosiveness, had trouble elevating). There are some similarities but would not get carried away.
