What I have learned so far in BE play is that the team, even with its guards' issues, can be competitive with the top tier of the league. They are just not seasoned enough to nurture solid starts and offensive surges or to close out games effectively. The Seton Hall game is a good example. A sold first half start was squandered in the Hall's unforgiving and unanswered run to end the half, and that was the difference because the second half was played to a draw.
I wouldn't be surprised to see them give Nova a game.

I don't like the 6:30 start.
Its going to be important to stay with them early in this game. If we get down by double digits in the first 10 min, combine that with a late arriving crowd due to the early start and you've got the recipe for a depressed atmosphere. If we can play with them early until the crowd fully arrives it should keep the building lively, which will help our chances.

Turnovers: not only does this team turn over the ball way to much, but they seem to do it in bunches at the very worst time. I was late getting to the TV for the Seton Hall game and was pleasantly surprised when 9 minutes in we had an 8 point lead. I sat down to enjoy a good game and it immediately devolved into a nightmare of turnovers, sometimes 2 or 3 possessions in a row. 14 point SH lead 11 minutes later and a big hole. I do not know how valuing the ball is taught, but it needs to be, because the Butler and SU loses we’re directly attributable to TOs despite otherwise good execution and now against better competition, they don’t have a chance with 15-20 TOs every game. Obvious stuff, I know but as a fan it is so frustrating to see so many opportunities wasted, indeed contribute to the other teams easy baskets.

I know it sounds negative, but the fact is that Nova is the #1 team in the country. It is almost certain that any crowd will be overwhelmingly a Nova crowd. I think you are right that if we can keep it close, the home crowd becomes more electric regardless. But, that will be a tall order. And, yeah, it's also pretty depressing that our game cant even make the main event, prime time slot on the BE Wednesday night Fox Sports doubleheader. Sigh.

For us to be successful tonight one of the outside players has to be hot shooting the 3. It would be marvelous if two did but gotta be at least one. Then the doubles get harder on our bigs. That’s the only real hope.
I have no doubt we will compete and work hard. But they are a very good team with a system that they are all committed to playing. And Brunson is the kind of guard that has killed us for years. Smaller, fast, great handle, and a good shooter who can also get to the rack but will dish the ball if that’s the best option. We do a lot of talking about the Hoyas issues but we haven’t had this type of player since Chris Wright left. And we wouldn’t have had him if he didn’t leave a coaching change at NC State.
But who knows maybe Blair and Johnson start dropping 3s and we win. Go Hoyas

We did take down #1 Duke at home. Granted, we had some future pros on the team. A win is highly unlikely, but anything can happen on a given night.

I am not too optimistic about the Hoyas chances in this game. I would think that our best chance is if Nova overlooks this game to some extent and does not come and play to it's potential and somehow allows the Hoyas to keep it close into the second half. At that point who knows what could happen. The Hoyas have played very well for 10-12 minutes spurts this season but have not been able to sustain the focus and efficiency for an entire game. I hope I am wrong and that Georgetown pulls a huge upset tonight, but Nova is a really good team.

I don't care who it is, you don't storm the court for beating a Big East opponent. That would ruin the accomplishment.

11,979.
That is the number of days Pat has been itching to get his revenge on VanillaNowhere. Hopefully our guys can rally the defense, spark up the offense and get Big Pat the win he deserved back then and no doubt wants now. I get all the mismatches, their shooting is awesome yada yada yada. This one is only being decided in one place - between the lines at the Cap1 Center. All the Hoyas who are allowed inside those lines need to bust out their A games and get coach his much deserved revenge.

If we were to beat #1 Villanova with the current status of the team and the program, that will be a huge accomplishment and worth celebrating for the students. I would agree if this was one of the other BE ranked teams, but #1 Nova is an exception and would be an elite win.

This will be the first game in years that I will deliberately avoid watching live. I will record it and if it turns out not to be the slaughter I fear I will watch it later tonight. I know this is probably a cowardly thing to do but I just can't stand watching Nova humiliate us. I really think that if Nova comes out angry we could commit 30 turnovers and lose by 40+ points. How do we compete in this game? Try to score in the paint and hopefully get Nova forwards in would trouble? Hit 15 of 21 threes (like Butler) and hope Nova commits 17 turnovers like they did against St. John's? Pray their team bus gets in an accident on I-95 like ours did last year and Brunson, Bridges and DiVincenzo decide to finish the trip on foot?

I am wondering if we shouldn't slow down the pace for this one. Trying to match these Big East teams speed for speed has not work out too good for us.
