If we have less than 15 turnovers we'll win. Book it. I just hope for those turnovers to "not" be during crucial moments of the game. lol looks like i was right in my under 15 turnover prediction lol. #hoyasaxa

Not sure how much we can use the press yet. Everybody has to work together, and with our youth it will take time. Best for now to spring it and try to catch the opponent off guard. But we do have some length, so with more practice it can become a weapon. Oh, I agree. I wouldn't turn into WVA or anything. But it got a bit predictable in terms of when and how by the end. I'd just mix it up a bit. I think they only beat it for a hoop/foul once or maybe twice.

I thought the patience in the post was excellent. Jesse and Marcus were daring the double to come and much more effectively dealing with it today once it did. You get the sense that Pat knows Marcus can be very, very good with just a bit more attention to detail. I really liked the use of Blair as a zone breaker. He takes quick shots, maybe too quick, but they are usually open ones. As with the Cuse game, we are doing some pretty creative stuff against the zone. It helps having two bigs that can pass, score inside, and go deep. And obviously you need to hit some deep ones against any zone. But I feel pretty good against it right now. The guards were just good enough today on offense. Excellent (and this is always underrated) with post entry. Good enough from deep. And mostly under control. They're going to continue to have struggles, but if they can do this, we will win some more. Loved the press! How about using it after made FGs sometimes too?!? On Derrickson, it's clear Ewing sees the potential in him, and is pushing him hard. He laid into him a few times for questionable decisions, lack of effort or attention on defense, etc. He responds well to it, comes out and works harder. No one's immune though, saw Mulmore also get an ear full a few times too. I think in Derrickson Pat sees a talented player who could be a great player. If Marcus takes the JT2 like "attention" the right way, his coach is going to earn him some good professional money. His game is growing already.

What an awesome offensive performance by Jessie! Made difficult shot after difficult shot double-teamed...
It's late. A less-stressed night's rest awaits...

Solid victory on the road. Still somewhat ragged in the last three minutes until Depaul started intentionally fouling us (which I thought kind of bailed us out). Not sure why they didn’t go to a press on us earlier. But anyway, happy with the win. JG and MD do their thing, and I liked the concerted effort to play through them in the second half. Pickett’s TO’s are tough to take, and I’m not quite seeing the improvement that I expected. He’s not hitting 3’s at a high clip, not rebounding, and turning the ball over when he tries to take it off the bounce. Mosely was a mixed bag, but I think he is more efficient at both ends of the floor and deserves some of Pickett’s minutes. Also, I’d like to see some plays/screens for Kaleb. He’s our best third option and deserves it.

Jessie was a man today. What a performance.
Love MD hitting those 3 FTs when you know he was clearly uncomfortable.
Great job by Kaleb on Strus. Blair w some big plays. Mulmore settled down a bit and played better D. Really hope Pickett stops turning the ball over. Big 3 and big FTs late but needs to play within himself.
Dave Leitao helped us out as well....he was clearly upset w how we were defending Strus...could see that T coming.
Way to close it out.

I Like when DePaul cut the lead to 1 at 61-60, the guys responded with a run (9-0, I think). Showed resilience and can build on it.

Team is coming together, developing some chemistry and working a solid plan, and style of play. I think this should be attractive to some unsigned prospects.....whoah, but can they stand the heat? Coach and staff are blasting them.....there will be NO UNDER-ACHIEVING this year.

Over the hump, great leadership from the juniors. Credit to Patrick for staying with Pickett and his 5 tournovers

I think Coach E just wants him (and Jesse) to play hard all the time...both did tonight, and MD was electric...no, he was "Neon Deon"...

Pickett is going to win games for us this year. He's a highly touted freshman with great expectations. He will come to himself and figure things out.

Plus/minus for tonight's game, as calculated from the play-by-play posted at guhoyas.com:
Govan +14, Johnson +13, Mulmore +13, Pickett +10, Derrickson +4, Mosely even, Blair -1, Walker -2, Dickerson -6, Hines DNP/coach's decision, Muresan DNP/coach's decision.

Just as I expected. The lead evaporated when Trey Dickerson came in the game. He's a liability being a sub six foot guard, can't finish (which effectively makes all his drives turnovers, can't shoot and keeps making freshman mistakes as a grad transfer. We probably win 2 more games if this guy doesn't play.

I like Blair/Mosley of the bench. Coach also did well substituting Govan and Derrickson in the game. But sooner than later the light switch will come on for Pickett

According to win probability tracker on ESPN, at that point we had a 49% chance to win, and 2min later our run to put us up 10 put us at 92.5%, even with 7:30 left in the game. Real important run.

Didn’t quite put the game away but was the pivotal moment of the second half. I think learning how to win one of those was the first step. The next is putting games like that away by early to mid second half. Need solid guard play for that, so we shall see, but solid first step, especially when they were challenged on the road.

Too late to write much, but a solid road win. You’ve got to take them whenever you can get them. A few thoughts:
- Derrickson and Govan were both very good tonight. We need them to carry the team this year. Govan easily had his best Big East game tonight of the three games so far. Derrickson has been consistently good.
- Kaleb Johnson definiely helped on defense in the second half. Still, there are too many possessions where our defense doesn’t set up and guys are out of position and we give them easy baskets. This is really a team wide problem that I hope we can improve since most of these guys will be on our team next year too.
- I continue to like Blair’s shooting. He’s a freshman and sometimes doesn’t make the right play (like against Marquette) but I really do think he will be a good shooting guard for us. The guy also hits free throws at a very high rate, which I love.
- Interesting to see the difference between Ewing and Leitao. Ewing, more than any game to date, seemed really into the game and rode the players hard, especially Derrickson.
I really thought Leitao gave the game away in part with his ill timed technical and then by having his team foul us with over a minute left down by 6 - the fouling made no sense to me and allowed us to keep the distance between the teams with our solid free throw shooting. This game is a great illustration why coaches getting technicals is never a good thing.
Good to get a Big East win.

any road win is a good win in this league. great poise showed by the team. the turnover parade started early but the guys showed, at least for one night, that they have learned from the previous 2 games. pickett will be ok, he just needs to slow down offensively. great job getting to the line and converting by marcus and jesse. i do think that 24 3's is too many for this team. i'd prefer getting higher % shots but sometimes you have to take what the defense gives you. HUGE game saturday. creighton's guards are going to be a huge challenge for our defense. can't afford to start out 0-2 at home.
