We are going to be a deep team next year. Lets not get ahead of ourselves. We are not sneaking up on anybody next year. People will not take us lightly anymore. The bullseye is back on G'town. The question is, are the guys ready for the challenge. That is one of the many things that plagued the Esh regime. Not rising to the challenge when it mattered most in games. Lets rise to the challenge guys. I think we can do it. But, its going to take hard work like last year, and even better effort. discipline, and improvement to get to the NCAA's. Just look what happened to the Twerps this year for a case study of getting too big for your britches based on the previous year's success. I think it's a little rash to call this a deep team. Who knows who will step up and who won't? Our depth is essetially a bunch of soph's and freshman who've never played at this level. How does a bunch of inxperienced people = solid depth? Not saying they aren't capable, I just think peope on this board have expectations waayyyy higher than they ought to be....we gt lucky with Green last year and Wallace and Hibbs contributions, but those aren't guarantee's for next year....

Its just great to see DJ and BB back. We will have a very solid team next year, and we have a BENCH now. We just have to play to our strengths, not our weaknesses and we will win 2/3's of the games. We can now have total trust in our starting 5 and with some good contributors from the bench, and maybe a little glimmer from our freshman, would be perfect. Georgetown is on the rise now, watch out BE/NCAA.

I think it's a little rash to call this a deep team. Tentative Depth Chart?: 1: Wallace, Cook, Sapp 2: Cook, Crawford, Thornton, Egerson 3: Owens, Bowman, Egerson, Spann 4: Bowman, Green, Spann?, Dizdarevic 5: Green, Hibbert At each position we have two players with BE conference experience. And while none of the freshmen are guantees to put up 10 ppg, they all are rumored to be pretty good. I'd say we're deep. We're still a little thin in the post, but I'm not going to lose sleep over that because we'll be just fine with Roy and Jeff.

Conventional Wisdom says the biggest improvement a player makes is between freshman and sophomore year.
Our freshmen were pretty good last year.

I think this will definitely be a deep team. We're essentially returning everyone who saw significant time last year (minus Ray Reed) and added four players who are supposedly pretty capable. Even if they're not great right away, I think III will have more confidence in the bench this year.

Look I really share everyones optimism and as a member of the class of 2006 (yeah '06!) I have cautiously decided to only take 2 classes second semester senior year which do not meet on "Big" Monday or "Big" Tuesday - or Ivy League Friday (this has nothing to do with basketball). Also looking for long hotel reservations during BET at MSG - HOWEVER - nothing is ever written in stone in college basketball - and we can't take anyone in our conference lightly - and we need to hope and pray that players live up to their potential and avoid injury - we also have no idea what our OOC or BE schedules will look like - hell, we barely know the Kenner League schedule - BUT now that I have said all that - do I think this is the deepest team in the 4 years I have been on the hilltop? Yes. Is this the team with the best shot to make it to the NCAA's based on the indications during the summer, since I have been at GU? Yes. There are many reasons to be happy with what is going on with the team right now - lets just not put the cart in front of the horse right now.
That being said - I think we'd make a nice 3-5 seed. ;D

That's true. I think the Wolf summed it up best in Pulp Fiction. You all know which line I mean.
It also looks like we can add Macklin plus another recruit, or Macklin and then two in '07, if Wallace remains a walk-on. I'd personally like to see him get a scholarship though.

Gonna have to ask everyone to keep a heads up on potentially jynxing ourselves here. Obviously this is huge news, but lets try to avoid setting ourselves up for a fall.
Im really glad for DJ. Hope he gets a masters out of this... hope he also maintains that sweet stroke on his J, the stroke he had down the stretch last year. Gotta love Bowman back too... We all thought he'd be back, but its great to hear it be official... This has really been an excellent offseason for us, off the court at least... Hopefully the guys are improving on the court as well.
As for depth... at the end of last year our top 8 players were Brandon, Jeff, Ashanti, Owens, JW, Roy, RayRay, and Tyler, roughly in order of importance to the team. The only guy we lost is Reed. Thus, we're returning 7 of our top 8 players. Considering that most coaches go only 8 or 9 men deep in their rotation, we really only need one of the freshman to be solid off the bench in order for us to maintain our talent level from last year. From all the good things I've heard about these recuits, I think that's pretty likely-- in fact I think you'll see significant minutes for 2 or maybe even 3 of them next year (doubt theres room in the regular rotation for all 4). Not to mention that the 7 returning players have (hopefully) improved their game and become more comfortable with III's system.

Somehow I don't think we'll know what they look like until the warmups come off during the first game.
One can only hope that they'll give us a preview somewhere along the line.

I'd kind of taken the actual subject of the thread as a given from the beginning for whatever reason, so I got more excited about the prospect of seeing a picture of the jersey I'll end up getting for Christmas.

This is great news. With three contributing seniors (Owens will be in his fourth year of play so I will deem him a senior), we will have a chance to have real senior leadership for the first time since it seems like forever. All three have had their moments, and each could be more consistent. In the big situations, seniors can make an enormous difference if they have the right make-up. This is the most talented group of seniors that we have had in a long time. The absence of seniors last year had a lot to do with the February swoon and Owens' stretch run through the tournaments illustrates how experienced players can rise when they see the near-term end of playing important games. If Cook, Owens and Bowman bring confidence, urgency and focus to the season, the underclassman will follow. The incoming freshmen give us depth (except underneath) and if we are fortunate, there is a standout among them who will have a Green-like impact from the outset. We know the sophomore class will contribute and perhaps Hibbert will make a major improvement. Green will be conditioned to the rigors of the longer college season and may be ready to expand his reportoire of low post moves and assert himself for both halfs with greater frequency. If Wallace's role is reduced by the freshmen, we may find his stability and stationary shooting ability an effective way to change tempo now that we have personnel that can go faster. Reality reminds us that we played a soft Big East schedule last year and that we won nearly every close game. We will need to be better to reach the same results and much better to achieve superior results. With more talent and higher expectations, chemistry and coaching will face more challenges. That said and managing expectations for a few bumps in the road, we are in a position to play our best ball in February and March this year with more experience, depth and talent at our disposal. I can hardly wait. Next, you'll be telling us that Boomer Wells will be pitching one-hit shutouts for the Red Sox.... oh, wait a minute! (You didn't think I was going to extend the good post - great post cascade, did you?)

Somehow I don't think we'll know what they look like until the warmups come off during the first game. One can only hope that they'll give us a preview somewhere along the line. We will see the jerseys during the scrimage against the dreaded Latvian Deaf, Blind, and under 6'0 team. Does anyone know the words for "turnover" and "air ball" in Latvian? I would yell them in Russian, but that would seemingly add insult to injury ...

No one has made the logical comment about these two coming back and the back out of the SJU game. JTIII told a group of us last year that scheduling is ALL about how he feels about his team coming into the year. If he has a team of freshmen he wants to play lesser competition to build experience. With an experienced team (which he will have now with 3 seniors) he'll play anyone anywhere.
Look for a big announcement soon of either a preseason tournament or some interesting OCC games.
He know now he can bring back a whole team that has gone throug the road wars of last year.
Good times. Go Hoyas! let's play Duke again!!!
