Would be a great addition, we should've prioritized him the first time around. AAU teammate of fellow spring signee Bryce Golden. I'd rather have this kid than Akinjo, long term would be better to have two Team Takeover/local Catholic School guys. I disagree. I think Akinjo is better and would start immediately while X would get backup burn. I understand the desire to get a pipeline to Takeover but Akinjo is too good to sacrifice for simple goodwill.....maybe Akinjo can get up pipeline into Cali......🤔

We need to recruit in the DMV, but at this point we have to take the most talented player as long as he fits with what Patrick wants to do.

Fixing the point guard position has been an issue for this team since Markel friggin Starks. Get the best guy you possibly can. Stay in touch with Xavier if/when he decommits, but we can't let Akinjo get away from us. Find ways to repair our DMV recruiting at literally any other position if Akinjo joins us.

We're getting destroyed in the DMV and Akinjo isn't ranked substantially higher than Johnson. Short-sighted to take Akinjo over Johnson if Johnson was interested in coming to the Hoyas (recognizing that may not even be the case, he may just follow Hunter wherever he goes).

4* vs. 3* is a decent and relevant difference. And "destroyed" is hyperbole (Pickett, McClung). Take the better player. Make your team relevant again. The local kids will come.

I see your point hoyaboya but if we play better as a team then the local talent will want in on our success. I'm not sure how much better Akinjo is than Johnson but I'm certain that Akinjo shoots better than Johnson. If they do everything else equal (which I think Akinjo is better at most) shooting would win out over local ties in my opinion...........

I saw Xavier a few times this year and think he is absolutely perfect for what the Hoyas need. A true leader and floor general. If he does officially decommit, Pat and the entire staff should be in his living room immediately.

Pickett I’ll give you but McClung is really stretching the definition of DMV. McClung is more like a rural Tennessee kid than a “DMV” area kid which is known to really be talking about the metro DC and Baltimore areas. Also, McClung was a 3-star decommit from Rutgers who couldn’t even start on his AAU team. So I don’t think that’s really much of a recruiting victory to write home about.

Hey Virginia is Virginia!
I definitely want Georgetown to be first choice for DMV kids. But we need to keep the national view too.

You do realize his AAU team won the Nationals? Mac being a 3STAR (which imo those rankings mean nothing)is the biggest joke in the world. James Akinjo is super underrated and if he wants to be a Hoya you press for talent like this and go all out. Xavier chose Hunter and Neb over the Hoyas first time around. I'm sure if he decides to leave the huskers , the Hoyas may sniff to get involved. At the end of the day , he'll probably follow Hunter to UCONN. I understand the fans wanting to dig for talent in our back yard , but it's not that easy when your not winning. Right now , Coach Ewing needs to get kids that fit his system and wanna be here.

Tough customers here!! I want players that want to be Hoyas. Willing to give Coach Ewing a chance and wanting to get a quality education. Man, there were some super competitive teams in the NCAAA not named Kentucky,Kansas, Arizona. UNC, etc. We can win with quality players that dont have stars but have games, intelligence and big heart. I hope they show up soon. We shouldnt have to be so desperate. We have too much to offer.

This is a very revisionist view, the main thought by folks was that Johnson wanted to be a Hoya but PE/staff never showed him much love so he went to Nebraska.. There's some irony to read posters talking about getting kids who want to be Hoyas in the X. Johnson thread..

Etomic , so your implying that the Staff didn't show him love? Xavier played at the Kenner , attended games , visited MM (and a couple other times) the staff also watched him at events. He narrowed his list to a couple schools and chose the huskers. That's recruiting

This isn't hindsight for me, I felt this way during the recruitment & posted about it in this thread..

Maybe just maybe at that time Coach Ewing didn't love his game enough to push for a commitment... He was a lot of other program's on his list 2nd option.

When it comes to recruiting , the fans don't always know what goes on behind the scenes. Who knows , Maybe Xavier let the staff know early that he was a Husker lean. We don't know. I try not to get to wrapped up in it. So when I hear things , it's best that I keep it to myself. Everyone's entitled to their own opinions and naturally as fans certain topics we agree or disagree. At the end of the day , I'm no better than anyone here and never claim to be. We all want the same thing. WE all want the Program to get back to its winning ways , NCAA's and Championships ect.

Staff should consider at least having a conversation with him even tho we are favorites for akinjo. Wouldn't mind having having 2 true point guards.

The college game is built around strong ball handlers and players who can defend on the perimeter. If he would consider coming and probably being a back up, and we had another scholarship, after Akingo, then the staff should pursue him. Players leave programs so often these days that you have to stockpile as many quality players as possible.
