It's disheartening when we can't make the Top 12 for a center from Jamaica by way of New York at a position of need.

This particular recruiting season doesn't feel much different than others. And it needs to be.

Guys, 90% of the class haven't set 1 official visit to a school. Calm down, this is the start..

As always, YaBoy on point ... and what about the flip side of these connections - in other words, the idea of having yourself constantly compared to said big man from Jamaica (who btw is a HoFer, Dream Teamer, etc)? Not saying that either put the Hoyas in or out of contention (if ever in it) but there are two sides to every "connection" ...

Not saying I thought he was coming but if you can't get a Jamaican big man who acknowledged that Georgetown is Big Man U and who is a Nike kid who we were in pretty early on to at least make Top 12 it seems odd. We didn't even get the courtesy visit just so the Jamaican parents could fan out with someone they likely cheered for. I don't know what happened. Maybe he is headed to a rival and they said dont put us on. maybe Omer scared him off. Who knows but I am still shocked to not see the Hoyas make the Top 12. This wasn't meant to be a sky is falling post and maybe another foreign big man who plays in NY is headed here. That doesn't make not making Kofi's Top 12 any less shocking to me.

Guys, 90% of the class haven't set 1 official visit to a school. Calm down, this is the start.. About a quarter of the top 100 has already declared. This isn't exactly Day 1. Until Pat wins a traditional recruiting battle for a 5-star/top-50 kid, I'll continue to be worried that this experiment is on a St John's track. Top kids don't really seem to care enough about Chris Mullin to help him w/ all that NYC/NJ talent - I'd hoped Patrick's star alone might be greater. I know all the devil's advocate positions, the things that could happen between now and Summer 2019, and the good things Pat has done to this point, but I'd rather be in a bird-in-hand position than to have to hope that two freshman guards can create enough excitement about the program to move the needle. '18-'19 needs to be a better year on the court and on the recruiting front to keep our momentum. I'm hopeful that it will be... but I'm hopeful every year. When we get a Stewart... or a Whitney... or an Anthony.... or a Cockburn/Baker/Morsell/Dixon/Quinones/Bacot/Gaffney, I'll exhale.

Maybe it's time to retire this "Big Man U" argument. Today's HS senior has no memory of Patrick Ewing in the NBA, and watched Mourning and Mutombo playing while they were in third grade. The program needs to look forward.

I get it, but all that sounds like a bunch of feel good stuff that ends with the same result of him not coming here. At the end of the day the staff backed off or he wasn't interested... Staff watched him a little this weekend but left in the middle of his game fwiw. IMO I like the kid, I would take him, but I also don't think he's a good fit for what Pat is trying to do here on offense and defense, so not too upset about it..

Who cares how you win a recruiting battle. Do you think any coach who has a top 50 kid on his roster cares if he won a "traditional recruiting battle" to land him? I care about acquiring talent... Top 50 kids aren't beating down the doors of any program that's had 3 consecutive at or below .500 seasons. Have to be creative recruiting in order to acquire the talent necessary to win games, gain momentum, and start landing those kids...

Georgetown. They develop bigs. It's incredible how they do it. I don't know how they do it, but they do it. They get the job done.

And those current bigs we've developed are?

I am not upset as I agree I'm not sure what place traditional bigs like Kofi have in today's game. I saw Kofi dominate Bol Bol last summer but I'd still rather have a Bol type player. I would like to think that Pat believes this as well but his offers don't back this up. I didn't say it was disheartening because he's not coming. It's disheartening in that Pat's legacy/pedigree may not move the needle as much as hoped.

What other offers has Pat put out to similar players as Cockburn? Btw George was in Orlando this weekend and had this to say about Cockburn This was after he RT's Kofi's list..

I have no idea what happened in this case, but at some point it seemed like the interest (from him or the staff, or both) seemed to diminish. The Hoyas seemed to be mentioned at some point quite a while ago but not much lately. It could be a hundred different things that made it not fit. The staff has cast a wide net and they seem to be involved in quite a few other players. Until everything settles and we see who they end up recruiting as a center for the '19 class it is hard to say if this is a big loss or not.

The last sentence encompasses what I feel about Kofi. Kofi is not the type of big that I would want running with our current guards. Most likely Kofi is a 2yr player or less, so I think our team would struggle trying to force feed a traditional big. I want Kai, Lorca, or even Wilson. Long, lean bigs that can get up and down the court with our guards. Maybe Kofi can but I see more Dwight Howard than DeAndre Jordan in Kofi's game....imo

Yaboy I was responding to your what other bugs like Kofi are we on but now it's gone. My response was pretty much all of them. Yea a guy like Aidan may be more athletic but they are all "traditional" bigs.
Edit - the question is still there. Response obviously the same

Response obviously the same Our current offers are Kai Jones, Malcolm Wilson, John Bol Ajak, Chol Marial, Igiehon, Maxwell 'Max' Lorca-Lloyd, Qudus Wahab, and Seth Pinkney. All those kids are long lean athletic bigs that have above average mobility and provide solid rim protection at the position. I don't see how those kids compare to Cockburn who is more of a bully type of big.. The outlier would be Will Baker, who is not as athletic as those kids, but he's ridiculously skilled...

Can we please take Kai off the list of Big's. I've seen Kai play with Team Breakdown. He's more of a developing stretch 4 than any where close to a big. He's rail thin and built like Pickett. He's at least a couple years in the weight room from being a small ball 5. He's not getting matched up with any other team's Big's intentionally... Akok Akok is skinny as well but much stronger than Kai. As much I like Kofi's game and physicality. He's not a fit stylistically with what Coaching Ewng is trying to do.
