Post up efficiency is one of those things I expect could be hugely different in the NBA and college.

He hasn't visited us. He recently went to Uconn and St John's.

Cockburn saw St. John's and UConn during late June and mentioned Illinois, Kansas and Kentucky as programs that he would like to try and visit unofficially in August. Pittsburgh is another program that has been pushing harder of late and others like Syracuse and Georgetown are just a few trying to be a big factor when decision time comes. Don't look for Cockburn to decide anytime soon and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him wait until the spring to announce a decision. However, he's at least planning to cut his list down to 12 in the near future and has an idea of what he'll look for when he does make his final choice. “I’m looking to go in there and do what I do," said Cockburn of the school he ultimately picks. "Be a leader. I’m a winner, so winning championships (is important) as I’ve said before and just the environment.” basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/cut-to-12-will-be-five-star-kofi-cockburn-s-next-move

There are quotes about 5 schools including ky and ks. Hoyas were listed in the other schools section.

Never got the feeling he was coming. Hasn't even been on a visit yet.

Dont think he is coming, Yurtseven I think may drive him somewhere else. Someone like Stewart who can play 4 and 5 might be a better fit.

Whose gotta have him? Georgetown
Why? This is one where I am going a little bit outside of the box. I haven't yet gotten a great feel for where Cockburn could be leaning but the idea of Patrick Ewing coaching a bruising, throwback big man makes sense to me. For Ewing and the Hoyas it would mean a win with an elite talent who had big time schools recruiting him and that could help open the door to serious consideration from other high level talent.
The competition: Kansas, Kentucky, St. John's, UConn, Oregon, Illinois, LSU, Florida State, Indiana, UCLA, Pittsburgh and many more.

Don't get me wrong, I'd like Kofi Cockburn. but I'd rather have a Stewart, Igeihon or another Yurtseven type 5. Cockburn is more of an old school 5 and I am not convinced he's the best mix with our exciting new uptempo offense. I know you need to defensive rebound to start a break, but I like the versatility of the others more. I could see Cockburn clogging the paint. Still, I will be spared him setting screens beyond the 3 point line.

Still, I will be spared him setting screens beyond the 3 point line. Pat runs a pro-style offense. You're going to see a ton of the 5 setting screens at the three point line. People need to seriously realize it isn't 1984 anymore.

I think people realize it's not the 80's anymore. But man mam o man I wish we could repeat the feat of the 80's. Sure. But the lament of "why is our center setting screens at the three point line" is ridiculous. It's a requirement of the single most defining offensive play in basketball right now in the 1/5 pick and roll. I don't know that there's a single team that doesn't pull up their center. Pat did it a lot last year. It's a fundamental opening acting of almost every half court offense in use right now, because a) big men set better screens b) it pulls the opposing center out of the lane and c) it creates the potential for a mismatch of small on big. Pat used it as a way to get some movement and easier entry into the bigs last year, but with guards who can drive and score, I'd expect to see a lot of that this year. Bigs coming out to the three point line isn't just not a problem, it would be a problem if we didn't do it.

SF, I understand your post, but you didn't get mine. I guess I wasn't clear in my haste to write it. I just meant that I see less value in Kofi Cockburn, a throwback center, on the roster than a YurtSeven, Stewart, Igiehon, etc., who seem to have the ability to remain a weapon after setting a screen out on the perimeter, be it as a shooter or rolling to the hoop with agility, etc. From what I've seen of Cockburn, he doesn't take many outside shots and is less versatile in this regard. While Kofi is a 5* Center, the game has changed a lot and he's less suited to the style we want to play.
One thing I didn't like about JT3's recruiting is that it seemed that he often took players because of their ranking that weren't well suited to his offense. I like that Patrick seems to be making his own decisions on talent, often out in front of other programs, and not relying on the prevailing consensus.
