Another area this program needs to catch up on..
He's been everything," Colson said of Rolinski in a conversation with ESPN.com. "He's one of the realest. He's done everything to help me shape my body."
The growing significance of Rolinski and his peers in college basketball demonstrates the philosophical shift within the game that has made strength coaches pivotal assistants, not the stereotypical meatheads who just scream at players while they throw weights around a few days per week.
"In basketball, it has really evolved," Jay Wright said. "It used to be you can't lift weights because it's going to hurt your shot to now, it's nutrition, flexibility, sleep and nutrition. ... It's not just gains in strength."
Last year, Richard Pitino led Minnesota to a 24-win season and the school's first trip to the NCAA tournament since 2013. He credits the additions to the team -- players such as freshman standout Amir Coffey and transfer Reggie Lynch -- for the 16-win improvement over the previous season. But he also calls strength coach Shaun Brown, a key asset in Minnesota's physical development, his most important assistant.
"My strength coach is maybe the most important person in the program," Pitino said. "I tell recruits this a lot: If there's two people beside yourself who are going to be the most important people in your lives that you see today, it will be me and the strength coach. He's not just a strength coach. He does a little bit of everything."

Smart promotion....get more people into the smaller games, even if it is for free.

Interesting interview with Ewing by Steph Lova. Fairly in depth as compared to what else is out there. Looks like Big John set the Ewing to Georgetown thing in motion.
He seems to be fairly realistic as far as predictions. Doesn't think we can consistently compete for 1 and dones and doesn't want to promise that he will win us a national championship. I'd like to see a little more bravado / salesmanship, but it is certainly important to be realistic early on.

My view: His goals are too realistic. I wanted to see more reaching, more idealism.

I'm sure privately to the team, staff and recruits he selling a different picture of success coming sooner. If the team somehow makes the NCAA's next year he be lauded as a heck of coach and the program will have serious juice. If the program struggles, he points to the fact he said publicly it's going to take time. If Ewing came out promising that the team will contend in the conference and make the NCAA Tournament next year and they finish at the bottom, some fans will start lighting their pitchforks to storm the castle. As much I love the hiring of Ewing, the sentiment wasn't universal and they are some just waiting and hoping for Ewing to fail.

For me, the style of play had gotten so unbearable that anything new will be refreshing. I like that Pat is casting a wide recruiting net.

He's being pragmatic. I think that he will coach up the guys he has. Anyone under achieving will probably ride the bench, but chances are those who are on the team will over achieve and set a standard for the level of effort, hustle, and getting the 50/50 balls on the court.

Shouldn't we be hearing something about the development of kids now? I don't think he's ever given a synopsis of any individual player in the program, I'd love to hear his views on Jessie..

Those of you who are in the camp of...Oh I think he is being pragmatic publicly, but behind the scenes, he is aggressively pushing people to over-achieve...I just hope that you are right. All I am saying is I am a little concerned at this point. I don't want to see us write off this coming season. I certainly don't want to hear any hint of that from our coach--straight up.
