“It was time,” said Alonzo Mourning, part of the lineage of great Georgetown centers that began under Patrick Ewing. “Unfortunately, it was time, based on the results. With coaching, you’ve got to get the results. Especially a prestigious program of that magnitude. You think of Georgetown, the history of Georgetown basketball … It just wasn’t right. Things weren’t right. They felt like only a change could get us where we needed to be and get us back to where we needed to be as a university from a basketball perspective.” theundefeated.com/features/patrick-ewing-georgetown/

Courageous to put his name on it as well. Good for him to do his duty on that board and not just play the loyalty card. I guess when you have a kid involved that can run deeper than his loyalty to the current coach's father. I think the term it was time captures it and is something that happens in all sports. Sometimes things go in a direction that neither party can right. I think both III and Georgetown can be successful again but just wasn't going to work in the current situation.

I agree. With all of the B.S. going on for the past few weeks ranging from the ESPN article to the very disappointing and unfortunate comments (in my opinion) from Reggie Williams and Michael Graham, I was happy to see support from former players like Sapp and Summers who both thanked JT III. At the end of the day, one of his responsibilities is to take young boys and 4 years later make them men. Perhaps those men didn't like the lessons they had to deal with at Georgetown. I didn't like my high school or college coaches either. That's life. However, at the end of the day, basketball is such a small part of their total life. I think there is a reason there is a deflated basketball on someone's desk...... I also think players who have matured have a different perspective many times, compared to, let's say, the guys graduating this year. What about Zo's view? Just a father scorned or someone who understood how dysfunctional this program had become first hand?

This also means that the rumors were true about Alonzo Morning being apart of the coalition on the Board Trustees that voted to fire JTIII. Fact check: 1. There are no "trustees" at Georgetown because Georgetown is not governed by a trust. It is officially the "Board of Directors of Georgetown College." 2. Alonzo Mourning is not a current member of this board. www.georgetown.edu/about/board-of-directorsWhat board does Alonzo belong to?
