Really going to be hard to sell the whole family thing when the son of one of our most famous players wants out too. I don't see how one has anything to do with the other. Sure you wouldn't

Trying to make sense of the timing of this announcement. If JT3 is about to be let go, these types of announcements (and Waters) typically come after the coach is gone. No? If Trey is leaving but JT3 is not, if feels even more troubling as it would seem to show a rift between the Mournings and JT3 (let alone the program), especially since he's transferring after his 3rd year. Like I mentioned yesterday, total collapse of Georgetown basketball. It did not have to end this way. It is going to be very difficult to hire a good coach. And I expect more players to transfer. This is the sad state of affairs for JT3 and Georgetown basketball. It is time for JT3 to resign.

This must be the fans and posters on this boards fault, right?
We created this right?
Such garbage....this is a sinking ship that everyone is jumping off of except the captain that created this disaster and he is deadset on going down with the ship.

Zo is a very important alumnus. This is not a good situation. It is now clear to me at least that Trey wanted playing time. Yes he turned the ball over and fouled way too much but he also had some real flashes. He had a couple of really good Kenner league games and some disappearing acts. The sample size was simply not big enough for fans to have an informed view. JT3 backers would fall back on the, "Coaches see him in practice every day and only they can assess who can play." That doesn't really ring true after back-to-back losing seasons and some pretty mediocre playing from our bigs. It also clearly didn't ring true with Trey who, after 3 years at Georgetown, decides to pack his bags and presumably head to play for someone who will give him a real chance. This is a bad, bad signal to send to our former players. If JT2 is the King of Hoya Basketball, then Zo is a Prince. He's also on the board of trustees athletic department working group. For him to pull his son, who is a Junior, out of G-Town to go somewhere else is 1000% the wrong message. Not sure how or why Trey was recruited to the team if this was a real possibility. I don't think zo pulled him out. He's always let Trey makes his own decision. I think whatever happened that made Cameron initially quit caused a huge disruption to the team that left a bitter taste in everyone's mouth. I have no idea what that is but in retrospect something must have been very wrong on the team for Cameron to give up a trip to Hawaii and quit the team I don't have any inside knowledge about the Mourning family decision making process nor the Cameron absence, which was particularly strange given the Hawaii trip. I would say that it would strike me as odd if Zo wasn't involved in this decision ... not calling the shots per se ... his association with the school runs so deep that I just can imagine he didn't at least have some input. Bad mojo either or both ways!

We'll see how much eligibility Trey has left. He may have more than we think (2003, no need waste your time breaking it down; only the NCAA knows). Since education is so important to him and his family, he could pick any competitive Ivy or Stanford, play regularly and get a great diploma.

I was thinking about him. I know he couldn't have been happy. I'm quite sure his father was the reason he stayed as long as he did.

Since the NCAA makes up new rules on the fly, I agree predicting it is impossible. One other possibility that I think is unlikely: if Mourning has enough credits to graduate, he could theoretically transfer and play immediately somewhere else. Given that he's only been a student three years, that seems unlikely, but you never know.

Yes just like with Tremont , who everyone here was calling the savior, Trey also left because way too many posters were saying he should get more playing time. These players don't like when they are praised on message boards so he decided to find a new fan base.

Seriously, Trey had more irrational fans -- and count me among them -- than any other player on the roster. There's always that guy who looks like he should contributing and rides the bench and is subsequently adopted as a hero in waiting by the boards -- in my time I cheered for Jerry Nichols, Rhese Gibson, Tony Bethel, Daryl Owens, Josh Thornton, Vee Sanford, Aaron Bowen, and now Trey ... I was right on at least Bethel, Owens (JT3 finally agreed), Sanford and, to an extent, Bowen. Hopefully things will work out for Trey and he'll have academic and athletic success wherever he lands.

Oh well. As long as the program can field at least 6 players on the roster they should be fine. 2-3 zone here we come. Do you have eligibility left? I have close relatives at the U. I'm going to tell them to walk-on. Yep, let me lace up the Reebok pumps

There are reports that he's very close to graduating and might have more than 1 year of eligibility but you never know with the NCAA. No info on what I'm about to say but I do think when everything shakes out, Mourning may stay depending on how it shakes out.

I think we all often wondered how Trey felt, suiting up for every game and hardly ever playing, but always positive. He seemed to be very involved in the game, talking to the coaches and the players, while ever on the bench. It had to be heart-breaking, yet he was always so supportive of the other players. He deserves to play basketball somewhere and I wish him the very best. I just hope there isn't another shoe that will drop.

We need a positive shoe, but I'll take a slipper at this point.

I really liked trey, I'm very sorry to see him go. While I don't think he was going to be a super star he gave max effort and a nice shot.
Sends an awful message. I wish him the best, I'm a true trey fan.

The last couple of games, Trey Mourning was in a suit...looking back the decision to transfer was probably made during that time period

I don't know how to read into this situation. If Alonzo and Tre decided to transfer at this crucial time for the program and coach, I'm thinking III is gone and he knows it or he's not in a good place with this regime for not letting him sniff the court on a historically bad team.
