Color me genuinely perplexed. It is surprising. My best guesses: - Much of the northeast was shut in by snow falling while the game aired. - Despite our loss, it was a pretty good game in the sense that it wasn't a blow out and it was competitive all the way through. - Butler is a ranked team. I think this basically doesn't matter much at all, but it might pique some interest. - Despite people's assertions otherwise, Georgetown's name still carries cache in the sense that casual fans know of Georgetown and probably have no idea that we have been stinking it up. Like Butler being ranked, I think this impact is minimal, if any at all. - It was on the FOX network. These games always draw better than Fox Sports 1 games. I'll be curious to see how the Georgetown-UConn game draws on Saturday.

Just trying to make the point that the staff should be out there evaluating kids even during the regular season.. There seems to be a big lull in the staff's recruiting efforts right now..

Just wanted to know your intentions as it seemed like we'd missed out on someone.

It's funny how HS rankings don't matter when a kid doesn't do well(Copeland or Domingo) but they matter when you're recruiting them.. Walker is rated as a 2 star kid also right? But folks are excited about him because we've seen his clips & read his write-ups.. I believe the staff should put similar work into other HS/prep prospects..

I don't think rankings matter to the coaches while they are recruiting. I think it matters to the fan base that doesn't follow recruiting and watch the clips and read the scouting reports. Once they get on campus the rankings mean nothing compared to how they play on the court. Antwan Walker is 4 stars on ESPN, 3 stars on 247, and 3 stars on Rivals. He chose Georgetown over Virginia Tech. Not a great comparison to Gillespie who isn't even covered by any of those three sites and chose Villanova over Holy Family, Philadelphia, Millersville, Stonehill, Merrimack, Albany, Maine, Rider, Drexel, Hofstra, and Delaware. I'm not saying that Gillespie won't potentially be a good player, and I agree that the staff should be scouring for talent. I just don't know if a recruit at that level is someone the Hoyas need to get a commitment from in January with only 2 open scholarships left. With most high school seniors focusing on their season, and the late signing period being in April/May, the Hoyas have time to jump in on those recruitment efforts if needed. My assumption from the recent offers and visits is that the coaching staff is now looking at 2018, 2019, and 2020 in terms of high school recruits. Given the interest in Sam Cunliffe, the staff is probably looking into transfers and grad transfers for the last two open scholarships before looking into lesser known high school talent. Plus, given the class distribution on the team, a transfer could bolster Jagan's class or Tremont/Antwan's class.

My bad on Walker, I looked at his Verbal Commits page which still has him listed as a 2* player.. They're usually good about updating profiles.. At the end of his Sr. year he was considered a late bloomer though right? I could be wrong but I don't think ESPN had him as a 4* recruit at the end of his HS career.. www.cityofbasketballlove.com/news_article/show/745221?referrer_id=I get what you're saying about Gillespie but Nova's staff watched him play several times recently so they're making an offer from their eyes not based on who he had offers from(according to the article above ND & UVA reached out as well), I'd like to see Gtown's staff doing the same thing.. If it turns out that they don't feel comfortable offering kids then don't, no big deal.. To me it's hard to like what you don't see.. Every late signing kid in this class is being recruited by someone right now so why not start the process now instead of 6-8 weeks from now when the HS season ends.. By that time it's more than likely gonna be too late imo.. It definitely looks to me like they're waiting for the transfer season to start which I think is a mistake personally.. Only 5th year transfers can help next season plus this is the same approach they used last May.. It hasn't been a crazy success even with the solid play of Pryor.. We all know JT3 is gonna be here so why doesn't he build from the ground up instead of looking for stop gap measures?

If they're building for long term, then traditional transfers would certainly help the team, and potentially earlier and to a greater degree than a project out of high school. And in terms of scouting, other than tweets from high school teams or scouting news reports, there aren't many other ways for fans to know where the assistants are at all times. So I don't think we can just assume that they aren't out there checking on potential prospects. Just this past week we knew that Solomon went up to see Waters play. It's easier to track in the summer when there are less teams playing and the talent is concentrated at weekend tournaments, so reports are more likely to track coaching staffs.

Terrible news. Poor kid. Bad for Creighton obviously but also bad for Big East. I felt them, Nova, Xavier, and Butler all have the chance for deep runs...

Feel terrible for Creighton. He is the engine. I don't see X or Butler in the deep run category. Sweet 16 is their ceiling I think. Creighton had FF potential.

Speedy recovery to Watson.. Ouch. Not only terrible news for Mo and Creighton, but for the BE writ large. That kid is a stud, and while Creighton showed against X that they can manage without him, they are quite simply not the same team. Between Creighton and Nova, the BE would have had two legit Final Four contenders. Not sure Butler is quite at that level, and X seems to have revealed its ceiling.

Unfortunate. Creighton has a good team and this is a huge loss.
