I will readily admit that I am making efforts to make our relationship with SU worse this week. Today, an SU fan (though not an alum) sent me that "Games are more fun when you hate the opponent" article from Syracuse.com with the message "You and I know whats at stake!" My simple reply, "what's at stake..."
To all those cursed with family/friend/associate ties to that school, I've got matches and gasoline and am an expert bridge burner.

All due respect to the great Pearl Washington, who will be honored during the game, time to overrun the denizens of Lower Canada Community College. I get this is a persnickity diversion (and that y'all don't care! (and that you're using 'Lower' to mean 'South of'!)) but 'Lower Canada' was/is 'downriver on the Saint Lawrence River beyond the Ottawa River'. i.e. Quebec. 'Cuse is across from Upper Canada. All that being said, it's still a hole you drive through on your way to anywhere else... Hoya Saxa -- ALWAYS love beating 'Cuse.

Cuse best win seems to be Monmouth. They got trounced by Wisconsin (like us), South Carolina & lost a close one to UConn at home. White & Lydon seem to be the main guys. Gotta get to the line to avoid long scoring lapses. Not to quibble (well, maybe I am quibbling), but the Syracuse/Connecticut game was not an Orange home game played at the Carrier Dome; it was played at Madison Square Garden. Gave both teams a taste of what they'll be missing in March.

Seeing as I use "Lower Canada Community College" as well when referring to SU. . .how about Lower Lower Canada Community College instead? Or maybe Eastern Lower Canada Community College? I have no problem marginalizing them, and turning them into a directional facility (I hesitate to use the term "university" or "school").

Playing against the zone will not be easy but I think we are set up fairly well to go against it. Jagan, LJ and Rodney need to provide the dribble penetration to breakdown the zone. I think this is a game where Brad can really help beat them up down low and snag some offensive boards. I haven't seen much of Cuse this year but it seems to me the zone isn't as effective when they have a guy like Coleman playing the middle, we can really put pressure on him with an athletic guy at the foul line and if Lydon or Roberson are in the center, I think Brad can post deep and punish them. I hope if the 3's fall early, we don't fall in love and settle. It's almost as if that benefits Cuse when a team shoots well early because it typically doesn't last the whole game. Quite honestly, apart from providing some bulk in the post, Bradley's game has been really off. He is missing 2-3 foot jumpers and put backs. I am not feeling good about his game right now.

Pryor. See #5 above from hoyasaxa2003's comment on Pryor's 3 pt FG %. What I love about Pryor is that against the vise zone you have to be ready to catch and shoot. He catches the ball and is seemingly always ready to go up. Never met a shot he did not like!!!

I just think with the way they extend the zone, he'll have a lot of room to work down low. This was a good matchup for him last year when he had 21 and 8 against them and they'll have the same frontline this year.

Hey,I was at this game. As they say in the video we were up by 21 at one point but if you notice we won by only 7. Kinda a snapshot of last year. Periods of greatness then long dry spells and nail biting at the end. But it is good to see M.D. hitting those threes.

Against the 2-3 zone, which Hoya flashes to the elbow? Peak? I see Marcus and Rodney as the primary guys in the middle. Both of them could be dynamite at that foul line. Especially Pryor with his quick release. I also think it makes sense to rotate him in there bc if he just stands out on the perimeter I'm sure Cuse will shade his side and limit his looks as much as possible. Moving him into the high post either forces the zone to condense and subsequently open up shots for others or give him looks at the foul line. My biggest concern is what happens late in the shot clock? Inevitably Cuse forces teams to run down the shot clock which forces a guard to penetrate and make a play late. I don't feel confident with any of our guards doing that other than LJ. That scares me. We have to take care of the ball. Can't let them get free run outs for easy scores. If you make them play offense in the half court you've got a great chance. Would love to see Bradley and Jessie abuse Coleman inside with their size

Govan can make the mid range jumper as well. His only weakness would be passing to the open man but I wouldn't be surprised if we atleast tried it a time or two.
You can also beat this zone on the baseline with jumpers which is where we'll see Jessie and Hayes playing often, both for the jumper and to slip behind the C if they challenge the FT line.
One of our best offenses against this Cuse team could be our transition game...if we can beat them before they set-up in the zone, it'll even help the half court game.

SU fans have been surprisingly quiet around here this year. I think they think their team isn't very good and probably haven't been paying enough attention to know we have stunk too! Not sure what is going to happen. If Peak and Pryor are hitting shots, I like our chances. We gave them a lot of trouble last year with Hayes and Govan. I think we may see a little breaking out for Marcus in this one. He has slowly been getting back into shape and it seems about time for him to become that 3rd consistent option. PG play will obviously be huge, as they will press hard if they get down....as they did last year and almost came all the way back.
I give credit to those of you going to this game. I live about an hour away from the Dome and have never gone to an SU GTown game. I just couldn't stand being in there surrounded by the obnoxious SU fans I deal with all the time. I've been for NCAA tournament games, but I just need to watch these games from home where I can yell and shout with joy or anger without having some jerks in orange all around me.

There will be lots of long rebounds off outside shots...Hoyas need to chase those down and get on the floor. Fight like maniacs for those rebounds/ loose balls.

Today, I threw out perfectly good produce. Came downstairs and was confronted by a bowl of tangerines. They were just too damned .. well, THAT COLOR! I had to toss them. An hour later, the wife and kids came down. They seemed confused as to where all the breakfast fruit was, but they seemed to enjoy their apples.

I've had the unfortunate opportunity to watch the SUcks up close a few games this season. My scouting report: - Do whatever you can to keep the ball out of White's hands on offense. He's lethal. Gtown has a pretty good 5th yr transfer but this guy is the real deal. Keep it tough on him and Hoyas have a good chance. - Dajuan Coleman has come around in the middle this year. He doesn't have a great shot but he's hitting shots and doing decent on the boards. - Lydon has been off. I'm just hoping this won't be the game that he comes around which we all know means it will be. - Howard is a solid guard. He dishes, plays solid D and will be an X factor. If he has a big game then we'll be in trouble. - Roberson has fallen off this year. Hoyas should dare him to shoot anything outside of 3 ft from the basket. - Battle is a stud frosh. He may not be a difference maker in this game but he'll hold his own. - Gillon and Thompson off the bench are both sparkplugs. They give them deep options off the bench.
They aren't a good rebounding team so if Hoyas step up on D we shouldn't be giving up many 2nd chance points and hopefully have some run outs. They do shoot well so have to protect the perimeter. I think they are better than their record shows but are in a slump. Just hoping this isn't the game they come out of it.
I won't be making this game but I'll be surrounded by the enemy watching the game. Please Hoyas, let's do this!! Make G'town great again!
