Only had the opportunity to see the first half yesterday before going off the grid for over a day. Great win! I'll have the plus/minus tomorrow.

I think we can all agree that for the first time in 2-3 years (since Otto left) we finally have a team THAT CAN SCORE. No more 7-8 minute scoring droughts. No more hoping that one guy, DSR, can light it up. Once MD gets going, and Jagan and Mulmore's get comfortable, and Jesse starts using all his offensive tools, this team will be able to play offense with the BE big boys. The big question is can we just REALLY TIGHTEN UP OUR DEFENSE. With a few more stops and quick runouts I think we can average 75+ ppg in BE play. Is it asking too much for us to keep our BE opponents below that number? I'd really like to see us keep UNC Greensboro below 60.

I'm of the mindset that we can now roll in without the pressure of the expectations that tend to bring us down. We are the bottom of the BE which I'll embrace for now and we will surprise some people if we can play the way we are. We aren't at the bottom for lack of talent on the team but rather for chemistry, coaching or whatever causes this team not to put the pieces together. I think Ike leaving is a weight off the team to pave the way for LJ and Pryor to lead the way. I'm not on the inside but fairly certain there was some issues there that have been dealt with and will help this team. I'm excited to see this team in the BE and I haven't been enthused about this team in a few years. Let's hope the wheels don't fall off. At least we know they have been tested in the early season with some grueling losses and now some nice hard fought wins.

We need another consistent scorer at least 10+ points per game. It's nice to see others step up but I'm looking for consistency to open up the floor. What I'd like to see is Hayes and Govan start making the bunnies and stop looking like Hopkins 2.0 but if not create some havoc in the paint and get to the foul line. We've got the two biggest big men in the Big East we should own the paint this year!

You don't get off that easy, buddy. Give us a summary of what's going. It's all been deleted over there. Both threads. The only eagle droppings left are in the game prediction which I think I won on that board. I'll eagerly await my prize. Bad news - your prize is a weekend with Laurie Fine. But you do get free STD testing as a bonus.

Hopkins never shot the ball as well from the field even despite playing closer to the hoop. Govan is not missing nearly the amount of bunnies as you suggest. Govan is hitting hooks, he is making shots off the glass, he is displaying dropsteps and spin moves, he is hitting short jumpers, mid-range jumpers and three-pointers, he is driving to the basket. All the things he did last year too. And he is shooting a high percentage to boot. There is still a lot he has to work on but stop selling him short.

For those of us whose connection goes back at least 35 years, it seems like a dream to think that any Hoya team could shoot FTs like this one. Truer words have never been spoken!

Agree that Hayes is really off with his shot so far. With respect to Govan, would actually like to see him taking more shots from distance--10 feet and out. Understand that pulling him away from the basket hurts rebounding, but with Agau in the game that is less a problem. Besides if Govan hits a couple of outside shots, that lane will open like the Red Sea for the guards and with Peak, Pryor and others this year the offense could explode in such situations.

Checked the box: win on the road against an ACC bottom-feeder.
On to UNCG!

Any thoughts on why Jagan so few minutes against the 'cuse? Was it injury/sickness or just Mulmone playing well. It was a great win and I am not nitpicking but just wondered if anything was said as to why he didn't play more coming off the best game of his early career.

Tre played well during a stretch in the first half, then Jon had his best performance of the year. Probably not much more than that. If anything, JT3 might have had a somewhat shorter leash on Jagan - knowing he's still a little green facing pressure and the 2-3. But he didn't play poorly - the others were just playing well.

Hoping JTIII sticks with the hot hand theory. OUtside of Pryor/Peak, it seems like he is going to play whoever has it going. That doesn't necessarily mean on O. Good strategy in my book.

That is kind of what I figured was the case, but wasn't sure if there was anything else going on. I have felt for a while that the PG position is going to be done by committee for the year. Whoever is playing best, or has the best match up, for that game is going to get the most minutes. It was good t see all three of them contribute

A few comments-
1. Great win, obviously!! Love beating Syracuse!! A little bit of smoke and mirrors to keep it close in the 1st half, but that 2nd half was a good one. Team defense and defensive rebounding continue to be issues, but hopefully we will see gradual improvement.
2. Congrats to Mulmore for a great game and a huge shot....hope it starts him on a nice streak.
3. Good job by Govan to step up and play tough in that 2nd half after Hayes went out. Hayes was playing well--grabbing boards and finally hit a nice "hooker in the lane". When he went out with his 4th foul, I was worried about Jessie on the boards. He came through though. Now we need it every game!!
4. Free throws are amazing! A couple of earlier posts mentioned what a shock it is for long time fans to see a good FT shooting team. Some of those teams in the 80's were brutal.....it's kind of fun being on the other end.
5. Did I mention I love beating Syracuse??
6. JTIII did a great job this game. Maybe we can all step back from the ledge (at least til Thursday!!) and see that maybe things are starting to head in the right direction. It's hard to watch the team play like they did against Arkansas St and in Maui.....especially when you know they can play SO much better and prove it at times. Let's keep this streak going for awhile....the team needs it, JTIII needs it and the fans need it!!
7. I love beating Syracuse!! Did I say that yet?
8. On to UNCG....trap game if there ever was one. After beating Syracuse and before the BE starts up. Need to come out and take care of business early.
Finally.....we beat Syracuse!!! YES!!!

Here's the plus/minus for Saturday's win over Eastern Lower Canada Community College:
Campbell +9, Hayes +9, Peak +9, Mulmore +6, Pryor +5, Cameron +3, Johnson +2, Agau -1, Govan -1, Mourning -1, Derrickson -2, Mosely -3, Hines DNP/coach's decision, Muresan DNP/coach's decision.

I think part of the perception about Jessie missing short shots is created by how awkward he looks at times with some of his inside moves, that can stick in your mind more than the shots he hits. But you can tell he is working hard on his inside game, it should continue to improve, and make him a beast when he puts the inside and the outside game together.

I am one of those "ancients" you are referring to. Just let's hope the free throw shooting is indicative of things to come in shooting from the field.
