This may be the wrong thread but anyway.....watching a handful of NBA playoff games I've noticed how even some established centers are now expanding their games to include three-point shooting ability (with varying success of course). I don't necessarily like centers taking such shots in the NBA, particularly when they have the build to be able to play in the paint. Nonetheless if that is truly where the game is heading for the time being then I have to say Govan is going to have a leg up on that front compared to his peers at the five who will be joining the NBA ranks over the next few years. This doesn't mean I want Govan taking a lot of shots from three while at GU and clearly he has other areas to really work on, particularly at the defensive end, but that fact that he looks to already have the ability to make long range shots and stretch the floor bodes well for his future.
Also if I'm Derrickson I would pay special attention to how Draymond Green is playing for Golden State. I say this because Green and Derrickson have similar builds and similar levels of athleticism. And Green's first three years in college would never suggest he would become the all-around force that he is today. Not even his fourth season at Michigan State would suggest that which explains why he ended up being only a second round pick. Odds are against Derrickson getting to Green's level but he can at least realistically aspire to be that "type" of player.

I like the Green comparison. Marcus has the chance to develop such a variety of skills. I think we needed so much out of him, as well as Jessie, last season that we often overlooked their youth. So excited to see both of them become stars in the Big East.

I remember Green in his Jr & Sr. years, he was a very good all round player.. His stats back it up also.. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/draymond-green-1.htmlWhat made him a 2nd rounder was his conditioning, if he was this fit in college he would have been much better than he was.. As for Derrickson, he can definitely be similar especially if he improves his handle & court awareness..

Green's stats backed it up? He averaged 12 and 16 those last two seasons while shooting way below 50% each of those years. No way do those numbers translate into Max Contract NBA all-star if you were making a guess before he suited up for his first NBA game.

Your op stated there wasn't any thing he'd done in college to suggest he'd be an all around force in the NBA.. The 12 & 16 points per game aren't eye popping by them selves but when you add in the 8.5 & 10.5 rebounds per game plus the 4 assists per game his Jr. & Sr. Year numbers look much much better.. Again it was his conditioning that made teams leery of him in the draft IMO..

Jeff is a good player but not elite in the NBA. He was a college stud at times particularly in his Jr. year. Let's see it for what it is and not try to discount his pro career as I think he's been very good but not great. Not the worst thing but much better than a lot of lottery picks.

I only pay attention to Greens that are Hoyas. There are others?
Back to the thread topic, the 2016-17 Hoyas have a great shot at finishing at the top of the conference and tournament success primarily because they'll have 2 elements largely missing this past season: experience on the court and backcourt athleticism that should translate into far better defense. Scoring should not be a problem. New voices on the coaching staff should help as well.

Rumors about my death were greatly exaggerated. Folks, we have baseball, Stanley Cup hockey, NBA playoffs, not to mention my grandson's college lacrosse playoffs, to be concerned with. I think we have talked the 2016-2017 season to death in this and other threads and don't really know how much more I can add. If something truly amazing happens between now and November like say JT3 resigning and being replaced by Patrick Ewing or KChoya getting a life then maybe I will jumped back in. Regards to all and thanks for the concern.

Thanks for sharing, didn't realize Mulmore had such a high TO rate last year...hopefully he'll play more within himself next year.
