This isn't ncaa related directly but with butler about to beat Creighton tonight there is still a real shot the Hoyas could finish third in the conference. Crazy. I'm with you khoya. Things are falling into place. We win tomorrow night and Xavier beats Providence and come Saturday we are tied with Creighton for 3rd.

I was all in before last night. Now I'm just hoping we don't get too humiliated the next few weeks.

This is a ridiculous thread (at least now it is). We have to win everything. Who cares if we come in third in conference? I didn't watch the game last night and I could have...unheard of for me

Our team at its current level of performance winning the BET would not only be shocking, but perhaps the most damning indictment of the quality of the league ever.

Well we know that we have zero shot at our current level. To win the BET we would need to somehow capture everything we have been missing, have multiple players (especially Ike, Trey, even Reggie) somehow play and contribute with confidence, and have DSR rediscover his game. That would not be an indictment of the conference, because we would not win the title without earning and deserving it. It would, of course, be an indictment of most of the first 4 months of our season.

While I am loathe to argue with my elders, if we are the best team in the league, even with the above contributions, the league stinks.

I know it's highly unlikely that this team wins the BET at this point but for some unknown reason, I'm not giving up hope that they can capture some magic at The Garden. With that said, these last few games are very important because getting a 6 seed or better allows them to only have to win 3 games instead of 4. With the depth of this team, that will make a huge difference in a potential championship game.

I guess my point is that if somehow the earth moves on its axis and we become the team that battled to the wire with Duke and Maryland back in November, winning the BET would not necessarily reflect badly on the conference, because it would mean we had played very good basketball. But I am talking about an almost complete 180 from our last 2 1/2 months. I don't think any of us really believe it could happen. But hey, stranger things have happened, right?? Somewhere, sometime? Right? Please humor me and say yes!?!?

You should go on tour with that.

This is college basketball, crazy things happen, almost on a nightly basis lately. Do I expect it to happen, absolutely not, but it's certainly not impossible and having to win 3 games instead of 4 gives them a better chance.

The only way the Hoyas win the BET is if the other 9 teams do a Louisville and put themselves on post season probation. Sorry if this is harsh, but it is reality. This team can't string 2 wins together during the regular season, how are they going to win 3 or 4 games in a row. Be realistic.

I mean, think of all the crappy Syracuse teams that have won the BET (or made a run to the BET finals) despite not being close to the best team in the conference. If a chump like McNamara can lead an NIT team to the BET title, why can't an actual good basketball player like DSR?

I've stated that I think it's highly unlikely and I don't expect it to happen but how is winning 3 games not easier than winning 4? If you actually think it's impossible then you don't understand the landscape of college basketball and you have no business looking at this thread seeing as you've already deemed the Hoyas officially eliminated from the NCAA tournament.

I understand the landscape of college basketball better than you since you had to use an example from 2006 (10 years ago). This just does not happen in todays college basketball landscape. It is not like the Hoyas have a Kemba Walker or Shabazz Napier walking through the door tomorrow. Another staple of those teams which went on runs like Syracuse with McNamara or either Connecticut team was a good defense. This team does not have that either. I will say that I wish this would happen, but this team has so many weaknesses which have been exposed since the first game of the season.

A JT3 team hasn't overachieved in postseason play in nearly a decade. It's not going to happen this season. This team isn't winning another game.

Is this where I point out that KenPom has our defense this year ranked at basically the same as Syracuse's finished at in 2006? And while DSR is no Shabazz or Kemba, this year's Big East isn't exactly the 2011 Big East either. And hey, Providence did it in 2014 with a defense outside the KenPom top 100. By the way, in case you haven't noticed, no one on here thinks this Hoyas team has all that good of a chance to win the BET, so I wouldn't derive too much of an ego boost from shooting down other poster's admittedly overly-optimistic posts. It's a Friday--let people dream.
