Oh well. To be honest, if this Georgetown team is a tournament quality team, then making the tournament really isn't all that special (to paraphrase Groucho Marx).

Have to win the BET to get into the NCAA big dance. Nothing else to sugarcoat at this point.
If not, hello NIT or CBI tourney.

Nit requires a winning record I believe.

Nit requires a winning record I believe. You are correct. You have to have a winning record for post season play.

Nit requires a winning record I believe. You are correct. You have to have a winning record for post season play. We made the NIT in 1999 at 15-15. You just can't have a losing record. For the other tournaments, a team can have a losing record and be invited. Those tournaments are by-and-large embarrassing.

Sigh. I said before the SH game that I wouldn't let a loss there lead me to "the chances are so minuscule as to be laughable" territory.
Predictably, that's harder after the fact. Still, it's objectively the case that we have been a couple of possessions away in virtually all of our defeats this year -- none of these recent losses (except perhaps the Butler game) were worse than that.
And based on how we already have played against the teams remaining on our schedule (which, need I remind you, wasn't exactly well), there are certainly five winnable games left on the regular season schedule, which combined with a QF BET win likely still would be enough. The problem is that they're all eminently loseable too (as evidenced, need I remind you, by how we've played so far this year).

Amazingly, this team still had a decent chance of making the tournament and, IMO, a win at either Butler or SHU would have solidified the chances pretty well. Well, more of the same. Lame job all around. Really disheartening season.

Only realistic path is through the Garden. And to call that realistic is a stretch.
At this point would settle for some improved ball down the stretch.

If a NCAA tournament bid is not going to happen and I don't think it will then I hope that we lose the majority of the rest of the games. A season of no post season berth because of a below .500 record would hopefully wake JTIII and the staff up to what they are doing from recruiting to offensive strategy is not working. I am not rooting for losses, but if it leads to some much needed changes then so be it.

Only realistic path is through the Garden. And to call that realistic is a stretch. At this point would settle for some improved ball down the stretch. Not sure there's a realistic path to NCAAs anymore, but mainly because I don't see this team winning the games it would need to. I think that if they went 5-2 (win the four remaining home games and at Marquette) down the stretch they'd still have a shot, depending on what they did in the BET (at least one win), but I don't think anyone believes they can actually pull it off anymore. If a NCAA tournament bid is not going to happen and I don't think it will then I hope that we lose the majority of the rest of the games. I am not rooting for losses, but if it leads to some much needed changes then so be it. I'm with you. I'd rather they bottom out results-wise than make the NIT. The talent is still there, but everyone involved in the program needs a wake-up call and to make some major changes if we're going to break out from this rut. That being said, I'll never turn down a NCAA bid, because you never know what can happen once you get in.

Nothing has really changed from a few weeks ago. We had to split with Butler and Seton Hall, must win against Marquette, beat St. Johns and steal one game from Providence/Xavier/Villanova.
However now the remaining Butler/Seton Hall home games are must wins along with Marquette and St. Johns. So time is running out and there is no cushion.

Appreciate the slight optimism , but the fact that nothing has changed is the problem. The only thing we've done in 2+ weeks to help our chances is a miracle comeback against a rather blah BE team at home. Even under the scenario you laid out, which is really tough, we'd still have to win a BET game to be comfortable. 6 more wins seems all but impossible right now. RPI forecast gives 5 wins about 11%, so add a neutral site win against a tourney team to that. Yikes.

TBird & Gunny, you realize we don't get a better draft position by tanking right? All you get is a bunch of 18 & 20 year old kids wondering what the hell happened and further shake their confidence. Get a W tonight. Provy without Bentil or a hobbled Bentil is doable. Frankly, I think every game left on our schedule is winnable (sans at Nova). Will we win them all, probably not. Can we go 4-3 and keep a glimmer of hope alive, my guess is yes.
For Bradley & DSR's sake, I hope we can get in to the tourney to give them a good send off.

Yeah, I hope they havent given up. If you look at the schedule for the rest of the month, they are all winnable games, and 4 of them are at home where we'll probably even be favored. I think we all agree that being inconsistent will be the downfall, but this isn't a team that going 1-7. So, I'll keep watching.

looks to me like we can only afford 2 more losses: one to either marquette, butler, seton hall, st. johns (eek), and only one to either providence, xavier, and villanova. and then we'd have to make sure we don't lose in the 1st round of the BET to anybody not named xavier, providence, or villanova. it's not like we'd face xavier or nova would play in the first round anyway.

I've officially become more concerned about recruiting and DSR's career totals until the BET. We are toast absent an improbable run at the Garden.
