We won so it doesn't matter but I thought the refs were exceedingly pro DePaul and there was a stretch of two fouls in the second half one where a DePaul Player landed on Govan's back/head and the next where the DePaul player swung at Derrickson's arm and head to get the ball. While bother were called fouls, I fee if we did that even in our own building, I have no doubt that our players would have been called for a technical. Meanwhile on the other side of the court Peak and Hayes were called for fouls where there appeared to be no contact. Couple that with an opening routine when DePaul players were announced then fist bumped with the officials and I found the refs to be far from impartial.

Show of hands. . .honestly, who out there thought we'd be comparing Hayes's senior statistics to Sims's senior statistics two months into the season? I've not been on the Hayes bandwagon, but you have to give credit where credit is due. He has contributed far, far more to date this season than any of us had any reason to expect. I am not going to focus on his shortcomings any more, and will happily accept his contributions as effectively constituting the basketball equivalent of "house money." This is similar to what I posted in Brad's thread after the nice write up on him, to me whatever he gives the team is gravy.. The truth is he's basically a freshman.. Maybe I'm wearing my Hayes colored glasses but he seems to be improving a lot game to game, it wasn't too long ago when a few posters were pointing out how low Brad's ORtg #'s were(somewhere in the low 90's iirc) but now his # is 108.0 according to the sports-reference site.. His DRtg # is 94.2 right now also.. Hayes had 4 assists thru the 1st 8 games of the season but over the last 5 games he has 16, he's had at least 2 assists in 5 straight games.. He had 6 blocks in the 1st 8 games, he's had 12 over the last 5.. As Yaboy pointed out he had 2 last night without leaving his feet.. That's a nice turnaround on both fronts.. He's learning on the fly right now but it seems to go unnoticed by a number of posters.. Hayes is averaging 9.6ppg & 8.2rpg which dwarfs what Hopkins or Lubick & most importantly imo anything Moses gave the team numbers wise.. I think a lot of posters were never on the Hayes bandwagon & didn't like the attention he got from the "play Hayes" crew so it makes them extra critical of him in my view.. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/bradley-hayes-1.html

It's hard to compare Hayes and Hopkins, because they are so, so different in their skill set. Hopkins was a tremendous defensive player, and Hayes is not at that level; I don't have Hop's rebounding numbers in front of me, so I'll avoid comparison arguments on that stat entirely. Hayes shows far more offensive ability than Hopkins even did.

I for one didn't expect Hayes or Govan for that matter to play at a Hopkins level defensively this season or ever for that matter.. Too much of a learning curve.. Hopkins avg'd 5.8rpg as a Senior which was his highest career total.. www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/mikael-hopkins-1.html

Hayes isn't taking anyone off the dribble from the top, down either side, finishing with either hand, like Sims. Definitely no 16 footers from Brad. His hook is nice, and he's really tall.

Good thing they missed a lot of free throws, because the game was definitely not called evenly. Fouls called on us during basic box outs and perimeter defense. I don't know how college coaches are supposed to coach defense now that almost everything is a foul.

I thought it was a bit uneven - I recall yelling at the tv at one point, saying the refs are now trying to keep DePaul in the game. However, the team also had a pretty significant number of stupid fouls esp. at the end. They were fouling every time DePaul had the ball. I totally agree with your last sentence. Been saying all season that college bball has become almost unwatchable.

Ugg. Not staying at home on the 3pt shooters. How can we not improve on this? Glad we agree!
