Interesting, UVA is the ACC's Villanova. They won the conference, great all season, and failed again in March. It does amaze me how specific teams just know how to win in March, it is a very select but predictable club. How great is Tom Izzo? He is a complete exception and I hate when people say III should just be more like Izzo in March. I think people do not understand how terrific Izzo is as a coach. He never has the most talent, but he always wins. Everyone would want Tom Izzo as their coach. man, he knows how to win in March. Yep. Izzo is a ridiculous coach. Probably the best tournament coach in terms of performance versus the rest of the season.

Tough draw for UVa. MSU probably should have been on the 5 line and regardless of season performance never a team you want to see in the Tournament. They were seeded correctly in my view.. They didn’t have a great regular season and you don’t base seeding on past teams success.. Computer average had both MSU and Wichita State in top 20 based on results as of past Sunday: as top www.masseyratings.com/cb/compare.htmBracket Matrix is a little less kind but neither should have been on the 7 line: bracketmatrix.comWe talk about the alleged ridiculous draws this team has received in the NCAA I just thought it was worth pointing out it happens every year. I think both Kansas and Virginia have legitimate gripes that by earning a 2 seed they earned the right to not see a top 24 team until after the first weekend.

They also have losses to sub 100’s Tx Southern and Nebraska. Another loss to #98 Minnesota. Just my opinion but overall 6-7 is where i would put them

It's looking like West Virginia is about to be the Big 12's last hope for a Sweet 16 team. They'll probably snatch the "Biggest Underachiever" headlines from the Big East at least. None of this makes the Big 12 or Big East a bad league. Single elimination can drive you crazy.

It's really Kentucky and then everyone else is about the same isn't it?
We kind of all thought it before the tourney but it's really looking that way.

Disastrous weekend for the conference. Despite the great RPIs and getting 6/10 in the tourney, it's going to be hard to be taken seriously if we can only get 1 team to the second weekend. Yeah, there's pretty much no point in arguing RPI numbers now when the ACC's 7-seed just knocked out our 16-2 conference champion. I'm a total numbers guy on most things, but the RPI conference ranking always strikes me as missing the point a little. It's great that top to bottom the Big East was stronger this season, and 6/10 in the NCAAs is great. But the hidden weakness of the Big East was that 2 through 5, we were putting out a bunch of fringe Top 25 teams, while the ACC was putting out Top 25-all-season teams Duke, Notre Dame, UNC, and Louisville--two of which are through to the Sweet 16 and two of which are favored to get there (we'll see how UVA does against oh-crap-we-have-to-play-Tom-Izzo-in-March today). I'm also not someone that places all my eggs in the March basket--but that is what it is...good teams are more likely to make the second weekend, and more good teams = a better conference. That Wake, BC, and the Fightin' Buzzes are dragging their conference down worse than Marquette, Creighton, and Oliver Purnell's Blue Bus to Nowhere seems less relevant. Since Nova's Final Four run, the current Big East schools in 6 tournament years have made 8 total appearances in the second weekend: 3 for Marquette and Xavier, 2 for Butler. And of those, only Xavier's done it with their current coach. Interesting note: Xavier and Butler went through old Big East teams now in the ACC in their recent Sweet 16 runs and Marquette went through Xavier and Butler in two of their three Sweet 16 runs. Xavier 's 2010 and 2012 Sweet 16s went through Pitt and Notre Dame; in 2012 they got 15 seed Lehigh in the 2nd round after Lehigh upset Duke. Butler beat Pitt at the Verizon Center to get to the Sweet 16 in 2011 and beat 1 seed Syracuse in the Sweet 16 in 2010 on the way to their two final game appearances. Marquette beat Xavier and Syracuse to get to the Sweet 16 in 2011; and beat Butler in the 2nd round in 2013.
