One thing i will always say about Hopkins is that he wants to win. Kid always gives maximum effort. Sometimes he tries too hard, which is when he often makes mistakes. If Josh Smith played as hard as Hop, we would be a top 10 team.

We played right in to their hands and gave them a track meet early. Couple that with poor defensive effort and the hole was just too big to dig out of. We had a couple of chances to make a run and one of our freshman would give up an open 3.

Hopkins and DSR were the only two that played with anything resembling pride today. I simply don't understand how you play a traditional rival, in a game where double technicals are getting called on coaches, and offer up such a listless performance.

Well, having spent the last two-plus hours watching the basketball equivalent of an autopsy, I'm leaving this thread to avoid any further post-mortem commentary. Didn't expect this type of non-competitveness at this stage of the season.

Amazing after a week off we show up and play like this. Cant believe the first game we press them and it works. This game we dont and we just get punked all game long.

Very disappointing that in the last game in February, we'd have another game where we come totally unglued in the first few minutes. Never even gave ourselves a chance to be competitive. Got to have much more poise than this.

Week offs can be pretty iffy. It's usually an either or predicament where you are great or horrible. Last week off we were great, this time we were horrible.

Maybe this will motivate us for Butler. We should be rested for them. If we somehow beat Butler then this will all just be a bad dream.

They have been two years in a row, so I'd have to answer this question "yes." But you have to admit this team is supposed to be better than last year's team? St. Johns is definitely a better shooting team than we are and while I think this team could potentially match their athleticism when they run up and down the floor we're clearly both uncomfortable running that much and are not intelligent enough with the basketball on the offensive end or in our transition D to play that way. We played right in to their hands today, whether that's freshman getting caught up in the MSG atmosphere or early foul trouble or whatever, we couldn't turn the tide in our favor and force the Johnnies to play our way.

I truly didn't understand the starting line up beginning in the second half especially since the 3 frosh DSR and Hop was grinding before halftime.
Peak has hit the wall P. White still trying to find playing time Copeland has to get stronger Campbell right now non factor
loved the effort of Hop and DSR today. Team and coach has to figure it out going forward.

I think we should also give some credit to SJU. They obviously shot well, but from what I could tell, they also played very good D - especially in the 1st. We were totally out of psynch. Should Lavin get any credit for that? Dr. Q?

Got to have much more poise than this. When you're down by 10 with only 36 minutes left to play, it's probably best to just shut it down and live to fight another day. Right?

Really not too complicated why we lost. Defense could not keep up with the fast play of sju whether in man or in zone. Johnnies were making the shots that were available to them. We made stupid to's and we could not make ft's. Green and dsr canceled each other out. Pointer far outplayed Copeland. Smith took himself out of the game.
I am very disapppointed because the team had a week to prepare and we played right into what sju wanted to do. That was very evident in the first five minutes of the game. The players play the game. But the coaches have to call out the needed adjustments to turn the game in our favor. Some of it was bad luck. We had some runs which were stopped by unlucky loose ball bounces or poor bang bang officiating.
We can certainly lose to any team in the rpi top 50. Our bet and ncaa fate will reflect this.

Awful FTs again and again, plus missing easy layups...
As we were just about to come back, Josh's silly push buried the game.
Suck it up and move on.

Gave up easy buckets and wide open 3s. You could argue we should have stuck with it a little longer, but we were down double digits pretty much the whole time.

That's twice now that we have absolutely trashed a team at home and then gotten destroyed by them on the road.

Hop with 10 offensive boards today. He had a couple of ill advised plays but overall he played quite well today.

This is who the team is at this time. They are inconsistent and often undisciplined. Poor shooting overall but still loaded with potential. Nothing shocking from week-to-week other than the reaction to a good win, sloppy win or inexplicable defeat. We have seniors who have distinct and limited skill sets. We have other players who will grow and develop but remain incomplete. Not sure what the coach can do at this stage.
