I was watching the game. The elbow throwing was almost all off-camera (far right side of the television screen while the ball was being brought up court from left to right), but you could see Obekpa jogging into the lane and begin the throw his right elbow at Tyler Wideman; the actual impact was not captured on screen, but you could then see Obekpa moving to the right side of the lane facing downcourt while Wideman lay on the baseline holding the back of his head. It became apparent that Obekpa's elbow had made impact with Wideman's head. You cannot see how violently it happened, but there is no question in my mind that it was intentional. It took another five or six minutes of video review before the referees assessed the flagrant 2; no foul call was initially made. When the referees explained the call to Lavin, he did not protest at all, and Obekpa did not protest at all either. I don't believe that Wideman played again.
Vaccaro tweeted out his thoughts on the elbow well before he wrote his story, and I would not be surprised to hear that others in the New York media take up the issue in the next day or two.

I used to try and watch as many of their games as possible just because I knew they were talented and liked seeing them play in the garden. But they are an embarrassment. And not because they arent deep and get tired at the end of games. It's because they are undisciplined and poorly coached. JT3 would never let his team play as out of control as St John's does for 5-10 minute strectches every game. I think WOJO would have been a good fit.
