One name to check out: Osun Osunniyi. La Salle decommit center. Did a PG year at Putnam. Don't know anything about him, but just did $.02 worth of searching. Sounds like another shot-blocking, offensively challenged big -- but smaller than Wilson or Obiagu. Had a big game in the Prep National Championship, and maybe now people have gotten in his ear about moving up another level. Most of the writeups seem to say he fits at a MM school like LaSalle, though.

Listed at 6-9 and 6-10, but has solid bounce and added some bulk. Good numbers at a Putnam team playing a national type schedule. Someone to consider at least.

Went for 27 (13 for 21), 9 rebs, 7 blocks, in that champion game vs NMH (Laslewski and Lorca, etc). Looks like he belongs in the high major level. Definitely raw offensively, but does have a back to the basket game, and can block shots.

Prep Championship/Osunniyi's performance can be seen here:
Check out some early blocks at the 6:00, 14:10, 18:15 mark.
He's plenty athletic, decent hands/footwork, and a long wingspan. Caught the ball on the DEEP block - literally on the block - almost at will. Lorca didn't offer much resistance defensively, but also doesn't have nearly as much help up front. He was pretty gassed by overtime, when Osunniyi did much of his damage.
OO turned over his left shoulder quickly and instinctively for about 5 or 6 of his buckets. Even went left with the same move once or twice, but it's obviously not as smooth.
Took only 1 shot outside 6 feet that I saw (elbow jumper) and nearly put a hole in the backboard, but his FT form looked pretty solid.
He's not an offensive dud, but he's not going to get the ball inside 8 feet nearly as regularly at the next level. And other than his 5 footers and putback dunks and chippies, he didn't really need to in this game.
Overall -- I'm pretty impressed. I'd like to watch other games, but he's certainly more polished than Wilson at this stage and producing against higher level opponents.
My biggest concern would be his size. 6'9 + wingspan guys can be dominant at the prep level, then they're a dime-a-dozen at the next level. Closer to 7'0 and he'd be a top 50 kid.

So you're saying we need to check his growth plates?😁

5. IT MAY BE LATE, BUT PLENTY OF QUALITY POINT GUARDS LEFT IN 2018 It's getting late and only 10 percent of the 2018 Rivals150 remains on the board. That includes guys like five-stars Darius Bazley and Anfernee Simons who have already announced they will be pursuing professional opportunities rather than playing college basketball. Yet somehow, there is still a pretty nice group of point guards available. Former Arizona and Louisville commits Brandon Williams and Courtney Ramey are top 50 prospects who remain on the board. Four-star Tyler Harris is still out there, the previously mentioned James Akinjo. In a few days, Rivals150 member Isaac Likekele should officially have his release and many feel he can play the point as well. There's also others who sit just outside of the current Rivals150 like Serrel Smith and Myreon Jones that can play point. That there are that many guys who can legitimately play somewhere on the high major level left is good news to the teams left scrambling. As for where they currently stand, Williams seems to be a pretty heavy target of Oregon. Ramey is technically down to 10 but Missouri, South Carolina, Texas and Oklahoma State appear to be among the most strong with him. Harris had been thought to be favoring Baylor over Memphis and Iowa State, but Penny Hardaway could be turning that in Memphis. Akinjo has Arizona, Tennessee, Georgetown and others involved. Likekele will attract Big 12 attention while Smith just finished a trip to Maryland and many have been inquiring about Jones.

Tennessee lean at the moment. Staff has sniffed around. 6'8 270 wide body. Lefty Zach Randolph type.

Vols Brings in 4-Star 2019 PF DJ Burns for Official Visit, Look to Keep 2019 Momentum Going After having been on campus multiple times over the last 1-2 years, 2019 stud DJ Burns took his official visit over the weekend, bringing his parents with him on the trip. Bringing a 2019 prospect in almost seven months before he can sign is a strong sign that Barnes and Co. feel very strongly about their position and the hope is that while he did not commit while on campus he will do so in the coming days and will shut down his recruitment. Burns is a rugged, 6’9 260 lb forward whose calling card is his combination of brute strength and an advanced post-up game that comes from great footwork, hands, and soft touch around the rim. His high school coach has incredibly high praise for him, saying, “I think with him he always is developing and always is a great passer. His foot work and feel for the game is unreal. I see this kid as being a pro someday.” From here it looks like his floor would be freshman year Derrick Walker in that he’s physical and incredibly skilled and that his ceiling is very high and will depend on further growing/body shaping/conditioning, etc. He is a great student and also appears to be a high character kid (see him quoting Rudyard Kipling in this tweet) who, like his host over the weekend, Grant Williams, is also an accomplished musician who plays four instruments. gamedayonrockytop.com/major-vol-hoops-roster-developments-make-future-look-even-brighter/

Rock Hill, South Carolina. Plays for Georgia Stars AAU team. Likely to be a Kirby recruit considering Southern roots.

Cuse gets the first official for this kid...
Osun has also gathered interest from Maryland, Georgetown, and Syracuse (who he visits later this week). Whether or not he decides to embark on the good journey is up in the air, but there is no question that Osun would fit perfectly into Mark Schmidt’s system and have an immediate impact on the Bonnies attempt to build upon their recent success.

Hopefully an additional, undisclosed big fella will be joining us before next season. I'm surprised there has been no additional news about Sodom...where he's going to next etc. Coaches have done a superb job recruiting thus far!! Kuddos!!

Newly decommitted big man available Native Nigerian Ibby Ali took an unofficial visit to Baylor on Jan. 15, silently committed soon thereafter and signed with the Bears last month. However, now, sources tell HawgBeat that Ali has been released from his NLI with Baylor and the in-state prospect took a visit to Arkansas today.
"I was welcomed by the entire coaching staff," Ali said. "It wasn't my first time on the Hill but this time it felt really different."
When the now 2018 – and one-time 2017 – 6-10 center from Maumelle, AR was originally being recruited, most saw him as a mid-major Division I prospect. But because he didn’t qualify until December 2017, that gave him time to work on his game, develop that presence in the block and for P5 schools to move in.
Besides Baylor, Ali was considering Georgetown, Utah and Nebraska.
This is a dream come true for most Razorback fans who know the team could use immediate help in the post.
Ali came over to the United States in 2014 and had not played a second of basketball. His sport was soccer. So compared to many prospects he's still learning to play the game.
After transferring from Little Rock Catholic to Maumelle for his senior year (2016-17), Ali is a stronger rebounder and shot blocker but not a scoring presence. He finished averaging four points on 50 percent from the field, nearly six rebounds and 36 blocks in 31 games.
“This year, I’ve just been working on all my skills,’’ Ali told Sic'em Report. “I love to dunk. But I want to be an all-around good player.’’

This is the sketchy part of roster management that goes on at many schools, though not here. If all return then two kids will be shown the door and their scholarships pulled. And it won’t be the kids that have abundant options either.
