I have read where we have 1 scholarship available. Isn't Malinowski going to play as a a walk on this year? Would that leave us 2? What about Mourning? Ewing's current recruiting (Femi/Golden) would indicate that there is at least 1 scholarship still available for next season. The current assumption is that one of Malinowski or Mourning will not be on scholarship this season (though CasualHoya mentioned this morning that Malinowski is likely on scholarship this season), which is where the scholarship would come from. Not trying to be dense here, but if Casual's intel is accurate (i.e., Malinowski on scholarship), isn't the likeliest explanation that JG is gone? Or do we think that just means Mourning is walk-on? I haven't steeled myself for Govan bolting...still expecting him to be back, but no basis for that other than his not signing with an agent and his obvious lack of current draft prospects.

Well, in January Ewing said he had 2 open scholarships. Then Derrickson left. Then Akinjo and Yurtseven signed. So just based on that math there is still 1 open scholarship based on information that hasn't changed since January. I don't think that Ewing would have known in January that Govan was leaving early, otherwise Goven would have signed with an agent. But yes, there must be someone on the team that will not be one of the 13 scholarship players next year (such as Mourning as some have speculated), and that situation would have been known by Ewing for at least the past few months.

This is what I believe the situation to be.
Malinowski is on scholarship this year and next year - I have very good information on this topic.
Mourning is on scholarship this year.
Because Mourning never took an official visit, he can (his dad can) pay his own way and remain on the team next year without being counted as a scholarship player.
Thus we have one scholarship remaining.

Malinowski has already played 3 full seasons at W&M - can't see how he could possibly get more than one more college season Trey has already played in 3 seasons too - but he played only 8 BE minutes total in his frosh and jr. seasons. Maybe they can get some kind of waiver, for another year, although I don't recall any injury limiting his playing time in either of those seasons. So it does not seem likely that either Malinowski or Mourning can play beyond the 18-19 season.

Dimon Carrigan: 6-9 center, Cambridge, Mass. Dimon Carrigan is a potential diamond in the rough. He's a 6-foot-9 center with incredible shot-blocking ability thanks more to his instinctive timing than his height or his reach. Carrigan attended Cambridge Rindge and Latin High School last year, but recent reports have him transferring to Woodstock Academy for the upcoming year. Although he's not in ESPN's Top 100, Carrigan is beginning to get noticed by college coaches. He has scholarship offers from Syracuse, Miami, Connecticut, Georgia Tech, VCU and Washington. He's expected to play for the BABC AAU club this summer. www.syracuse.com/orangebasketball/index.ssf/2017/07/syracuse_basketballs_2018_recruiting_targets_as_ncaa_live_period_begins.htmlShot-blocking machine Carrigan did make the most recent rankings and his spot looks pretty secure at this point. He cleans the glass, intimidates as a rim protector and has better offense than what is perceived. Carrigan already has visits set up for Houston and Connecticut and also entered Peach Jam with offers from VCU, Washington, Wichita State, DePaul, Georgia Tech and Miami. He's now added Texas, Syracuse and Clemson. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/peach-jam-what-we-learned-1Went to JUCO, hopefully we look at him the 2nd time around

So it does not seem likely that either Malinowski or Mourning can play beyond the 18-19 season. With both players they have one year of eligibility remaining. NCAA rules give 5 years to get 4 years of playing in once enrolled in college. If there is extreme hardship (injury or family tragedy the usual reason) there may be a 6th year to get that 4th year of play in. This is usually a player out 2 years due to injury / health reasons, just not playing (as in redshirt) usually won't get an additional year and these exceptions are rare.

When it comes to shooting I like to focus on results over form but dammm if this kid doesn't have both a gorgeous stroke with range and by the looks of both highlight films a nice handle as well... Hope Romey Talley's is on the squad the next 4 years...
