Haven't been live since Bahamas and oh boy has it been a trip since then. Time to be half the team this board expects you all to be a get a solid win.

Gotta build on tonight. Solid defense, everybody contributing on offense, necessary adjustments. Hoya Saxa.

Butler will not be easy. They looked strong tonight in Newark against Seton Hall, and they've already beaten GU once (albeit almost two months ago). Let's see if we learned anything from the first get-together.

Coming to the game with my 5-year old - hopefully the first of many annual cross-country father/son Hoya basketball trips!
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but how does the gray-out work? Do they give away t-shirts? If so, do they have kids' sizes?
Edit - I almost had a heart attack when FS1 showed the Nova game as a Tuesday night game. I had to check my tickets to make sure I hadn't made a huge mistake. Thankfully it was just Fox being Fox.

Shirts on seats in 100s and 200s - medium alternating with large. The mediums turn into kids size with time and lots of washing.

Butler is turning out to be a better team than I originally thought. From a pure talent perspective they are not overly impressive. However, some stats of note include 3 starters who shoot FTs at 85% or better, only 11 turnovers per game and only one player--Dunham--who is a particularly good 3 pt shooter--make that very good. They are not a tall team and yet they hold their own on the boards with kids like Jones rebounding well. In the first game they had the same number of rebounds as the Hoyas and pulled down 10 offensive rebounds, which is something that cannot happen for the Hoyas this time.
In a nutshell they play hard and disciplined but the Hoyas should be able to play much better than earlier in the year if there is no loss of composure. Of course several teams can say the same thing and still lost to Butler. White had an off game last night and I expect that he will come on in this game. Copeland played hard and though he made some bad mistakes his energy was there and he is gaining confidence. Additionally he played well against Butler the first time, if I recall. Hoyas cannot get off to another bad start and spend the rest of the game chasing Butler.

Butler is a comfortable NCAA tourney team and the Hoyas need to bring it from the tip to win this one. Butler will not beat itself, so we need to play a clean game, avoid foul trouble and find our shooting at home. We saw vast improvement in the Depaul game form the FT line and in the turnover department, that needs to continue. Wasting possessions against this team will kill us.

I will get all my praise in now, but Im pretty impressed with Butler this year, too. They are in the top 20 of the RPI and have already beaten SJU and SHU on the road. Agree that they are very disciplined. I can see them being a huge threat in the tourney with their style of play.
To me, this would be our best win of the season. Need to bring it.

The freshmen are certainly more comfortable than they were 2 months ago. We need to value the ball, and make sure we take good shots - too many out-of-balance drives and long jumpers early in the shot clock last time. Back at home, I think Paul and Tre will settle in a little better.

The mediums turn into kids size with time and lots of washing. That might just be your kids growing...

Need to win this game. Have to get revenge for Atlantis. We never should have lost that game. We are much better than Butler. They are a tough team and play good defense, but they're not a good offensive team. Need to win the battle of the boards. Shut down Dunham and they'll struggle to score. We played terrible in that Atlantis game, we didn't seem to be in it emotionally at all after the close loss to Wisconsin. Yet we still almost won that game if it weren't for a couple of defensive lapses. If we come out focused we should win by double digits.

To win this game we need to play much more consistent than we have. What I mean by this is after we played great against Indiana we didn't really show against Xavier. Then we bounced back and played well against Creighton. After that although we beat Marquette I don't think anyone here would call that a good performance. Then we drop to Providence and beat DePaul. You can't just win one and then lose one in this league if you want to be in the upper echelon. You must string two or three good performances together and get W's consecutively. If this happens I think you'll see a dramatic uptick in the team's confidence and dare I say a little swagger which is what I've been waiting for. The talent is there, the kids just need to believe and to do that they need to have some successes. No better way to do that than getting revenge on Butler at home. Hoya Saxa

By most metrics i believe Butler to date is a better team. We clearly won the battle of the boards against them the last time, Dunham hurt us but didn't kill us. What we can't do is again go through long offensive droughts which have become a staple of this team. If i recall we may have gone 10 mins without a basket in the first half against them and combined that with multiple misses from the the line, we also threw in a similir 7 min stretch in the second half.
Not sure we can count on White and Copeland to combine for close to 25 points.
Can't have DSR picking up a couple of quick fouls like he did.
Hopefully we have figured out how to attack a zone or we are in big trouble.

I thought we actually attacked Providence's zone pretty well. I didn't read the commentary here but from being at the game we did well against their zone and forced them to switch out of it a couple times although they switched back, so they didn't necessarily switch out because we were beating it, but we score effectively against providence's zone.
Looking at the Box score it's clear this was a game we lost at the FT line and turnovers. 10-19 form the line and 14 turnovers. We gave up some easy transtion points as well. Josh was the big perpatrator of missed free throws 1-5. He's improved a lot since then from the line, so that should help.

This is going to be a grind it out affair.
