Our 3-F% for the game going down in a hurry!!!! Thats ok. Teams can assume we can't shoot the outside shot, I think we'd all be fine with that.

Wow. Even Allen made it in before Hayes. I don't get why JT3 kept him around, he should have had Moses back & let Hayes go.. Every year it's the same thing.. "Coach doesn't have any confidence in him"

I agree with coach. This was a game we traditionally struggle with, so it was nice to see us play so well.

"Coach doesn't have any confidence in him" I think the injury early this year has held him back. We haven't heard anything officially but he was in a walking boot early and any practice missed in the first month is detrimental for young players.

We held them to 0% 3pt shooting. Obviously some of that was bad shooting by them but a lot of it was defense. Looking good Hoyas!

Thoughts: - We scored a bunch today, but I think we only really saw some small incremental improvements in the offense. It's still mostly Smith, fast breaks, jump shooting by DSR and then whatever our three pointers give us. Today they gave us a lot. But no one could create much off the dribble today -- not Trawick, Peak nor DSR. And while we had a couple nice plays, it seems like we have a decent way to go on understanding cuts and screens, etc.
- Given that, I wonder how much of this team's success will be determined by just where the team ends up as a shooting team. At times, players like Peak, White, Bowen, Cameron and even Copeland seem like they will be able to be in the mid-30s as 3pt shooters... and then they go and completely airball something. If two or more of them CAN shoot, it will open up the entire offense.
- The first half had that trademark defense we're used to, where it seems like the opponent is just missing and it eventually has to end, right? And then at the end of the season, we see opponents shoot 40% from 2 and realize it is just good D.
- Defensive rebounding is still a pretty big issue.

Hayes isn't young anymore, he's been @ G'town for 3 years now.. Unlike last season, I really don't have an issue with him not getting a lot of minutes this season, I want to see Josh & Hop share the 5 spot as much as possible.. However in a blow out game like today, I believe JT3 should have gotten the kid 6-8 minutes of playing time with the regulars.. How can they get true teachable moments if he never gets meaningful minutes?

I did like the line-up to start the 2nd half.. Hopefully JT3 is realizing the offense opens up when he separates Josh & Hopkins..
Rebounding will suffer some but the offense should get better..

It's not like JTIII hasn't played freshman and given them minutes. (Austin, Chris Wright, Monroe, Otto, Peak, Copleand, White). Even Henry Sims had some minutes when he wasn't that productive his freshman and sophomore.

I was wondering if Hayes might be Redshirted this season with his injured ankle. Does anyone know how many games one can play and still be eligible for a redshirt.

A medical redshirt is only available if a player has played in less than twenty (20%) percent of a team's games. Hayes will not qualify for a medical redshirt at this time, under that provision.

Not sure why you even brought up the minutes played by freshman in the past..

I wish one of the reporters in the post-game press conference would ask him about Hayes and not let him off the hook? And it cannot be something like "what about Hayes?" It has to be something more direct like, "why, with GU up by 20, did Hayes not play?", "what is missing for Hayes to play more than 2:00 in garbage time in a game-long rout?", "is he fully recovered from his injury?", etc...

Hayes counting today' game has played in 4 games, he was clearly far less effective today than last year agaist FSU. I'm not sure how he wouldn't qualify if the season has more than 20 games?

It's not how many are scheduled, it's how many have been played when you request the medical redshirt. He's played four of seven games so far.

Normally I would be yelling about not playing Hayes sooner and even today there seems like no excuse for not getting him in at least with Allen and Mourning. That said, I suspect that some of the reason might be that with a week off since the last game, a bunch of other young regulars still adjusting to each other and college play, and the Kansas game coming in 3 days, the coach was trying get more time on the court to Copelanad and White and the top 8-9 who will play for certain against the Jayhawks.

Of course, you request the redshirt after the season is over (or even at the beginning of what would be his fifth year) so this is not an issue. The bigger issue here is that Hayes' injury is obviously not keeping him from playing. I don't know why people think Hayes not playing is some giant thing. He's not good enough right now to earn time. That's all, folks.
