Okay time to put Atlantis in the rearview mirror. Can't wait to see if Isaac's light bulb is now turned on, if White can continue playing at a high level, and if the whole team learned some lessons and improves the turnovers, foul shooting and rebounding. Let's keep the excitement building toward Kansas, we owe them one for last year. No backsliding! Hoya Saxa.

Towson shoots the 3 well. Seems like the three best players are a 6'2" sharpshooter named McGlynn, a 6'5" swing player named Davis ( rebounds well) and a 6'7" forward named Parker-Rivera. Not at all small like some earlier opponents with plenty of length available though not certain how much/well they play. They are 6-1 but were killed by Alabama early in their season.Take them lightly and it could be an embarrassing evening.

He was cut by the Nuggets at the end of training camp.

I hope Hayes shows enough in practice that JTIII will give him 10 minutes or more against Towson.

I hope Hayes shows enough in practice that JTIII will give him 10 minutes or more against Towson. I think Copeland showed enough in the last game where we can at least start to not worry if either Hop or Josh get into foul trouble, since Ike can spell them at the 4 if needed. Hayes showed absolutely nothing in the first 3 games and my gut feeling is that, barring injuries, he's run out of chances to convince the staff he should be the backup big in an important spot. If anything, JTIII has demonstrated so far this year that the minutes are going to the guys who are playing well and deserving of them. Ike starting in the 2nd half against Butler was a clear example of that. We're no longer forced to play anyone because of our depth, and I've got no problem with using the hot hand approach. Produce or sit. Back to Towson: I think hoping that turnovers go down is wishful thinking, because there's a certain level of carelessness that isn't going away this year (due to both inexperience for some and lack of mental focus for others). I'm just looking for a comfortable win and for Ike to continue to gain confidence, because we are going to need him against Kansas. That and JTIII needs to draw the line when it comes to the BS fouls on Josh just because he's big. The Florida game was a start.

Showed nothing? Let's be fair: Bradley only played 5, 2, and 3 minutes in garbage time in the first 3 games. He even scored 4 pts in 3 mins in the last game. The only way to see what he's capable of giving is putting him in with DSR and 3 of the other top pt players. Why wasn't he used more in the first 3 games? I'm not going to put words in JT3's mouth, but I'm guessing Josh needed to get the rust out, JT3 neede to see what was plan B at C, the freshmen needed breaking in, the opposotion was small, etc...

One more point on Hayes was the guy was in a walking boot not too long ago. That may have effected his conditioning and timing and we have no idea what is going on. I could still see him being used when we need bigs but there aren't too many teams that will pose that problem. Loved what I saw from Copeland and our timing and grasp of the offense should only get better with each game. We are definitely going to lose some very winnable games in big east play and with St. John's, Seton Hall and Butler likely posing formidable threats throughout in addition to us, Nova, Provy, Creighton, and Xavier, I think a 11-7 or 12-6 conference record would be very good.
I see the big east getting a minimum of five bids this year with the only weak links being Marquette & Depaul.

I have to preface by saying that I hope it is just injury-related but I can't imagine that it is. If he's even mildly hurt, you don't give him garbage minutes. They are, by definition, garbage. I get wanting depth and, thankfully, we have some of that this year though, clearly for Hopkins' sake, we could use a bit more at the 5. But the Hayes discussion already? Have you seen how far down the rotation he is right now? Do we really think that that is for no reason at all? It's not like there haven't been enough foul trouble issues to give him more time if he's earned it. Apparently, JT3 is more comfortable going small than giving Hayes minutes. Hayes' best hope, assuming he hasn't made his case for minutes in contested games (he obviously hasn't), is for the freshmen to come along as quickly as possible such that JT3 can depend on them to cover for his deficiencies. Until that happens, my guess is that Hayes is nailed to the bench.

From what we've seen of Hayes so far the fouls are a given. But as far as the team going forward we'll need Hayes to come off the bench and provide a minimum of 10 min a game during BE play. Honestly, the short and sweet of it, Hayes needs to produce this year! Josh and Hopkins will pick up their fouls, regardless of them being justified or not and I'm fine with that. I like the aggressive play they provide in the paint, between the three of them a team should be forewarn not to bring that BS in the paint to begin with. We need Hayes, not just this year but next year as well!
Now before I get off Hayes, does anyone remember the game where he showed a glimpse of talent last year? Was it the Florida game in the NIT going up against their 7 footers?
My next topic, given the fact that we have so much depth in almost every position, why aren't we pressing? If we would've pressed Wisconsin I believe we would've won that game. I don't think Wisconsin's bigs can handle a full blown press. Furthermore, I don't think they could have handled us in transition, we've got some serious ponies this year.

I believe Hayes played well last year versus Marquette, as well as in a couple of games late in the year.

I believe Hayes played well last year versus Marquette, as well as in a couple of games late in the year. I'm always confused by the praise he gets for that game. He played 11 minutes and had 2 pts, 2 rbs, and 4 fouls. If that line equals "played well", then you probably consider anything above "slipped on a lost contact lens and gave himself a concussion" as not bad. I hope he gets some time on the floor too, but lets not oversell what we've seen previously from him.

The real issue with Hayes is why he is not developing enough in the eyes of the coach to warrant more of a run in these games. He still looks very raw to me, but I do not believe that a player can fully develop in just practice time. I think that he is running out of "developmental" games in which to gain some experience this year. As currently constructed, the Hoyas are paper-thin at the post and one sprained ankle or other injury away from a real problem. Given the penchant of the two current posts to foul, it is possible tht Hayes will still be needed in some games. Agree with those who say he is even more foul prone than the other posts, but there is still value to a 7' body in the lane on defense and he is more athletic than Smith.

While I agree that it would be nice to have Hayes as a decent backup big, let's not oversell him. He certainly isn't more athletic than Josh. Contrary to popular belief, athleticism isn't just about vertical leap or straight-line speed. Josh is remarkably nimble and coordinated for a big man, while Hayes often looks as if he can't chew gum and walk at the same time.
