As someone who was unable to watch the game can someone tell me if the Hoyas' pace was the result of Florida slowing the game down or III doing that himself? With five Hoyas playing over 30 minutes I'm thinking it was the latter and that III fell into his old comfort zone of a orchestrating a deliberate game with a shorter rotation of players. That shorter rotation may bite us in the *** considering our team is not only not-rested but will have to play a much earlier game the next day against an elite team. From listening to the game, it sounded more like the pace wasn't that slow, it just that there were lots of misses. Interested to hear what people who watched the game thought as well, MCI. Hmmm. A lot of misses for Florida for sure but the Hoyas shot about 49%, right?

Thoughts from Atlantis:
- DSR is back! He's play at the end was awesome he did everything a PG should do and he was still DSR.
- I didn't get the luxury of TV replay but Josh hit the guys chin with his interior elbow. Said differently, 90% of Josh's body had already cleanly turned to the basket. He shouldn't be penalized for bad defense.
- Gator fans either knew their team stinks or were too cocky about this game given that 75% of the arena were Florida fans and they didn't make a peep. They only got loud for two to three possessions.
- Paul white is awesome
- Wisconsin fans think Georgetown would be better than playing Florida. I don't think they realized that Georgetown was favored for good reason.
- this was definitely the start of a 3rd generation of heart attack Hoyas
- most bohemians root for Gtown because they like JT jr.
- can't explain how awesome this win was. Huge!

MCI, the pace was great it is more that the game was sloppy I'll take your word for it. Thanks. Washington Post couldn't even send G. Wang to the Bahamas.it seems. LOL. Anyone living in the DC area probably knows by now the sad state of local coverage. The W. Times doesn't cover Gtown anymore. The Post gives Gtown a good writer who is also responsible for covering about three or more other local teams...and may not have much of a travelling budget. And since the AP has decided not to cover any unranked team outside of the Big Five, the Hoyas don't even get covered anymore by the DC based AP guys. Amazing. Meanwhile the WPost may have already done more extensive coverage of the Terps' Trimble than they ever did of Otto porter during his two seasons. Yes, it is the annual MCI whine regarding the local media.

Best Offensive lineup is DSR, Bril, Peako, White, and Josh
Best D Lineup is D/Tre, Bril, Peak, White, and Hop.. White Peak and Bril need to rebound more though. Gave up to many O boards this game, but that team can guard you

- Wisconsin fans think Georgetown would be better than playing Florida. I don't think they realized that Georgetown was favored for good reason. Wisconsin fans are idiots--unaware of the existence of any program or school other than the University of Wisconsin. Given that Florida had the no. 18 or whatever next to their name, and the Hoyas have no number, of course they would assume that they are better off today. Still, this is probably the best team in the history of Wisconsin basketball we are playing. They are very good--exceptionally well-coached--and winning will not be easy. I can't see a spread on any Vegas site but would guess they are 5 or more point favorites.

A lot of misses for Florida for sure but the Hoyas shot about 49%, right? The pace was pretty quick and actually to fast at times as there were some very sloppy stretches in both halves. Peak hit a big shot in the end but he also forced a few drives and had some bad shots. You would have loved JT3's pre halftime interview where the reporter asked something about being worried about the first half being played at the Gators pace and he responded something along the lines of "this is our pace, they need to be worried". It was almost if he was intentionally sending a message that this team is going to play a fast pace and you could tell he was Editeded at the root of the question.

I thought the pace was great and not slowed down - what impacted the score and some time of possessions was the improved quality of defense. Florida moved the ball around well and they got some penetration, lots of misses tipped out or followed up when bigs, mostly Hop, challenged the penetrator. On our end have to give Florida credit for good trapping defense.
Very intense game. Basically like playing in a hotel ballroom with 3000 fans crammed into it. Florida was better with Carter and Finney-Smith; those guys did not look hurt. Have to say I get this board tends toward negativity - especially on Bowen and Hop - but today of all days Hoya fans should be thankful for what these guys and this team bring - where the changes in the Big East have posed challenges, this group as a whole and individually have stuck with it.
Not sure what the Wisconsin game will deliver - boy did they look amazing destroying UAB - and given the late night and quick turnaround and Disneyland atmosphere of this place. But regardless, the effort and trend for this year's team deserves an uplifting tone.

I also think DSR played a very good game as he hit a few big shots to stop Florida runs. He just was off on his 3 PT shot but the drives and mid range was classic DSR throughout the game. His FT shooting was off but I'm not worried there. If he hadn't been called for that BS 2nd foul early in the 1st half, he would have likely had 25+ in this game. I'm expecting a big game from him this afternoon to get us in the championship on Friday. Wisconsin is a very well coached and very disciplined squad so we will need his experience today to pull out the win.

Yes, it is the annual MCI whine regarding the local media. Just to chime in and confirm, i dont have the pace statistics in front of me but there a ton of turnovers (I think we had nineteen). We did not purposefully slow it down, i didnt think. And the player rotations were hard to complain about. White and Bowen and Tre each got very significant time, so it was a solid eight man rotation. Isaac and cameron got some minutes but neither was effective so hard to argue with their not playing further. As for tonight, tough challenge even if rested. But nobody played more than thirty-five minutes in a 45 minute tight game, so thats pretty good and shows i think jtiii's comfort with an expanded bench. And the big guy, our biggest concern in this context, should be ok. Happy Turkey Day all!

The pace also was affected by the 18 offensive rebounds for Florida that extended possessions.

Really nice win and it will definitely help the continued growth of the younger players. In my view though the best thing about this game was that the Hoyas beat a good team while generally playing poorly for large stretches of the game. Seriously, until the later 4-5 minutes of the game and the overtime the Hoyas were inconsistent, DSR was not playing to his level of ability and the younger players looked , well like young players. Florida had numerous wide open 3s that simply were not falling, particularly from the corners. Hoya rebounding was weak during large stretches as well. That would have been the story with a loss, instead of the confidence boost that should come for Peak and White. But I am really excited now as this team has clearly got the skill and the moxie to overcome poor play against a good opponent.
Really applaud the coach for sticking with his game plan despite execution issues and numerous turnovers. Love the quicker tempo. Kudos to Josh Smith for another high effort game. Kudos to the coaches using an offense/defense substitution at the post throughout the overtime. Hopefully they have the energy and toughness to handle a much stronger opponent today on less than 16 hours of rest.

19 turnovers for us. 18 offensive rebounds for them. 37 extra opportunities for a Top 20 team. And we won. A great gut-check for a young team. These Hoyas are going places this season.

Thought Josh's first flagrant was warranted. Second wasn't; Kurtz jumped beneath him right as he was catching the entry pass. The offensive player has the right to establish a position if he's coming back to the ground. I know they have the rules for player safety issues but for chrissakes, you have to allow post players to make post moves. This. The first play should have been an "and one" for Josh! He made a fluid offensive move and the out of position defender forced the contact with him. Easy call, even with the absurd way the rule is written- just botched by the refs.

Final Thoughts:
In one night with wins over Minnesota (St. John's), #18 Florida (Georgetown), and #5 North Carolina (Butler).. The Big East has thus far shown itself as a much underrated conference so far into the 2014 season and a force to be reckoned with. People are starting to pay attention.

Easy call, even with the absurd way the rule is written- just botched by the refs. It reminded me of what a Dukie would do. No way around it. Josh will have to ba careful when swinging for position to not give the other team an opp to get him in foul trouble and the refs a chance to call it.
