Good points to remember. Coaches know what is going on in and around their program. They know which boosters and hangers-on are around the players. They know what their 13 scholarship players are doing in the classroom. And while they may not know the specific classes, they know if there are classes designed to keep players eligible. Don't ever let them (Magoo) tell you otherwise. That is the most disappointing aspect of Chancellor Kent's defense of Magoo and the program.

I think what Kent Syverud is saying in public, and what he is saying in private, are two very different things. You have to remember that he is a first-year chancellor in a university whose main public asset has been the success of the basketball program, and its positive impact on a struggling Central New York city. It is inarguable that Joe Boeheim's status in Syracuse is that of a demigod. Syverud can't come in, tear down the basketball program's excesses and publicly flog Boeheim without jeopardizing his prospective future at SU; he has to do it in a more measured matter. It means he has to take the hit from outsiders for not taking a more forceful position in public. I think that the SU basketball program that we see in 2020 will look a great deal different than the program in 2015, because I believe that Syverud has too much integrity to let a cesspool-like environment continue on his watch. It will take time, but it will happen.

Just out of curiosity, I dropped by the syracusefan.com website to see how our friends at Lower Canada Community College were reacting to the NOA being tendered to UNC. The board moderators have established a separate forum available only to registered users, as they did when SU got hit by the NCAA. No surprise. . .a great degree of "they will find a way to blame us" being posted, along with a small degree of schadenfreude. They don't expect the Tar Heels to be punished as much as were the Orange. The News Observer (Raleigh NC) doesn't believe that there will be a sanction determination before March 2016. . .what are the chances that any sanction is imposed before the NCAA Tournament? www.newsobserver.com/sports/college/acc/unc/unc-now/article21697755.html

This all takes way too long.
As a yell at clouds I feel stupid for having any trust in the NCAA.

Here is the Notice of Allegations tendered today by the NCAA to UNC: 3qh929iorux3fdpl532k03kg.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/NCAA-NOA.pdfBased on my cursory reading of the NOA, it looks like the Tar Heels' football and women's basketball programs are under the gun here. It may well be that Roy Williams and the men's basketball program escape sanction, unless the NCAA holds that the alleged lack of institutional control can be used to penalize all UNC athletic programs.

Not unexpected--his contract is up and schools want stability. As he is not cited in the notice of allegations and his prior contract, (as found on the Internet) allows UNC to terminate for cause if he is cited in an NCAA ruling, the school has flexibility both ways. UNC's last major infraction? January 1961.

If the Heels men's basketball team escapes sanction here, it will be absolutely wonderful to listen to the anguished howls of Lower Canada.

Must we continually associate my beloved country with the foul stench that comes from upper NY? ) Your beloved country has a history of funnelling players down to SUckacuse, going all the way back to Leo Rautins(and his subsequent demon spawn Andy). One must atone for one's sins before they can be truly forgiven.
