Well, I want to create a permanent HoyaTalk majority. Isn't this the goal of any campaign adviser? I'd rather not be associated with Rove, but Carville is a good name. good idea ... we don't need dirty tricks to win.

I thought Chris was nominated for treasurer? Or was he part of that pow wow you and greg and the AD people had at the end? I don't know, I kind of wasn't paying full attention during the treasurer nomination part so maybe it was just wishful thinking that Chris was nominated for president because the other nomination didn't get me too excited.

Tim Russert just happens to be on the Tonight Show tonight.
He lives nearby, any chance we can get him to come campaign/give advice?

Well, I'm a little late in the fray here, but all I gotta say is that we have to get 007 and TBird elected. That's all there is to it.
And I will personally contribute everything I have to your guys' speeches and campaigns, haha. ;D
LET'S DO IT!!

Whatever you do, bring back the pots-pans-spoons (damnit... I can't remember the name... "Pots & Spoons"?) at the soccer games. That was a riot when I was there.

Good luck to those running. With that said, this nonsense reminds me what I disliked the most about G-town...

Good luck to those running. With that said, this nonsense reminds me what I disliked the most about G-town... hahha, me too. In my time at Gtown HoyaBlue has always seemed like an inside job to me. At least there will be at least one person elected outside of the old crew as well one of the older guys. Concerns at the meeting were that the older people were going to be cut out or that new blood would be cut out, depending which side of the fence you were on. I think that the President/VP set up answers both of those concerns. Now new and old blood can work together and keep the group from being dominated by one group of people (friends).

Who cares that the older people were going to get cut out?
Hoya Blue sucked at what it was supposed to do, and has for years. Bout time someone got a taste of the real world.

I believe it was "Pots & Spoons" started in 94 by a friend who was in the class of 94 or 95 who went nuts at soccer games, i think that was also the year we made the NCAA tournament in mens soccer.

One thing I'd caution against is thinking "Old guard" vs "New Guard". Ultimately, all are going to have to work together and inhabit the same metaphorical boat, so I'd recommend a more integrative strategy.
Remember- whatever you might think of how another might do their job, we're all Hoyas!

Normally no one would, but the meeting had a large group of reformers and a large group of the old house, so we weren't able to just completely overthrow things.

Sadly, Pots & Spoons was the target of a Big East (and later NCAA) rule around 1999, banning the use of artificial noisemakers during gameplay in any sport. Pots-n-Spoons hung on for one more season, banging their "instruments" behind the opposing soccer goalie (and thus outside of the official boundaries of Harbin Field, but they lost their effectiveness by not being able to sit in the stands, and slowly faded into memory and into Georgetown lore.

Remember- whatever you might think of how another might do their job, we're all Hoyas! Ideally that would be true, and thats what it has to be after this election is over. We need to reach out to everyone and create a true feeling of unity. But for now there are definitely different groups, and its pretty obvious, at least to those involved. It's kind of hard for me to think about working with someone when Ive already seen them not do anything for a year while being on the board. There are some people who do try now, and I respect that, but not many.

It's an NCAA rule? Are you sure? I know that Navy gave out cowbells to their students for the Air Force-Navy football game. If it's not an NCAA rule, I say bring it back for football. I bet it's not illegal in the Patriot League.

Can't we just vote by internet poll on GUHoyas.com?
I'm sure that would reflect the will of the people.

I bet it's not illegal in the Patriot League. I'm not sure about the details, but the history goes sort of as follows. School bands are forbidden from playing while play is in session. While football games have plenty of stoppages in play (as do basketball games), soccer is pretty much non-stop action, so there would be no stops for a band to play during a game. Pots-n-Spoons, as it was not an official university organization, was able to get around this, until the Big East (and/or the NCAA) created a new rule against artificial noisemakers, to close the loophole. My guess is that the rule is in play for all sports, but that it's less enforced in football because a) there is less action in football games and/or b) there is more noise in general at football games

HB and company will get that going next year.
