Wow, this sounds truly amazing and I'm extremely excited. I'm surprised I didn't hear about this from someone already, but I'm just happy to see it happen and we better get it right this time. I would encourage all students who read this board to come and hopefully this is also advertised on campus.
We need the people who are truly devoted to Georgetown Athletics and who will give their all to improving spirit and sports promotions to take the leadership positions and make Hoya Blue run the way it should.

It's time for those of us on the board who've been complaining (i.e. me) and offering to help to step up--I'm definately going to be there. And here's our chance to actually get a student fan group that does it's job.

I obviously want to be a key member of the board, whatever position I end up holding.
So now I'm asking all the students on here who have an interest to please respond and tell me if you want to get involved. We need to have truly devoted people who will give their all to doing this right.
I've already talked to TBird offline and he wants in, lets build on this list and go there somewhat organized already.

'07, with all apologies to the other students, if you aren't president, it had best be because you didn't want to be.

Well, I was trying to do work, but well, now I have no chance. Anyway, here are some quick thoughts:
1) Those of us students on the board who believe HB needs serious changes should get discuss what needs to happen, who wants to be what, etc... And try and go in with some kind of consensus. I'm not saying we have to be in complete agreement, but going in together will give us a better chance to get what we want accomplished.
2) Here are my first thoughts on the issues being discussed:
Organizational Mission: Hoya Blue's mission is to promote student attendance at ALL GTown sporting events
Organizational Responsibilities There should be required attendance for officers at a certain amount of games per sport per season. Like 3/4 of the major sports (football, men's bball, lacrosse) and a decided upon # of the less popular on campus ones (maybe 2 games each--which could be when they have events). The Officers need to care and they need to prove it.
The Organization should have a promotional event for a certain # of games for each on campus sport as well as set up road trips for away games and to the off campus sports like baseball.
Officer Election/Removal Process All I know is it needs to be open to all HB members for election. The removal process should be officer initiated--maybe 2/3 of the officer's can vote to remove another officer?
Constitutional Amendment Process Not sure about this one.
Open Forum HB needs to quit emphasizing alcohol. More road trips, more events before games, more organization at games.

Clearly, because remember, he's on a whole 'nother level... Sorry about that, but I was a little too heated that day and it was a stupid comment. But I'm sure that I'm at least at the highest level with the many other really devoted Georgetown fans I know personally, and probably some that I don't know.

This looks UNBELIEVABLE, I really can't wait. We need everyone on 007's list and more who are really passionate about Georgetown athletics to show up, let our voices and ideas be heard, and nominate the best possible people for the job. This way we can get specific jobs so that Hoya Blue can be run 100x more efficiently than it is now. This is a great opportunity, let's take advantage of it!!

Tbird - you nailed it on the head: "promote student attendance at ALL GTown sporting events." I also like your attendance requirements, especially, in light of DFW's thread about Georgetown's other basketball team earlier this week.

Yeah, I think the attendance requirement is awesome, and we have to do that. I've thought about it myself before and I definitely think it would be great. If you want to be an HB board member you should be extremely committed to this and by having at least that group of people organized at sporting events Im sure you can rally other students and form student sections that will improve the atmosphere tremendously.

I also like your attendance requirements, especially, in light of DFW's thread about Georgetown's other basketball team earlier this week. I think if there are events, people will come. Some BBQ's before football/lacrosse/soccer (M+W). Obviously, it can't just be BBQ's and Pep Rally's before big games, but even if it's just the HB officers being forced to go to games, odds are they're going to drag along their friends, The key is well promoted events to increase awareness and most importantly, increase the reasons to attend. And then making sure it gets turned into a crazy fun atmosphere--how many more fans did the bball program pick up b/c of how much fun it was cheering at McD?? I think some of the old things that they used to do need to be reimplemented as well (Orange smash before Cuse game, players sending out emails, or maybe getting just one to volunteer and write blog type emails to send out to the student body, which would help people connect w/ that player). And student sections for every game HB is at. Concentrating the students always helps.

Count me in. We need to make some changes, and I am happy to see this kind of change emanating from McDonough and beyond.

I realize it's a little tough since I'm not actually a "student" yet, but I'd love to get involved ASAP when I get on campus in August. I am sooooo pumped for next year. GO HOYAS!!

I'd e-mail Kyle Ragsdale (see linkk) and let him know, JimmyHoya. We need to get HoyaTalkers involved.

I dont know what Kyle can do about in-coming students at this point but if you want to talk to him go for it. The best bet is to just keep in touch and when you get on campus I'm sure the new Hoya Blue will need plenty of people to help out in a variety of ways.
