At the end of the day, the staff has really taken recruiting to the next level. Gone are the days where we'd have to beg the staff to pursue a certain kid. The staff has done a great job targeting their top recruits, pursuing back up options in case we don't land the big guns, and targeting transfers in a timely manner. I don't ever recall hearing about so many in-home visits, official and unofficial visits. Love everything about our 2014 class and have a feeling we are all going to be very happy with 2015. Absolutely. Recruiting now has gone to another level with the coaches. I think they have learned their lesson as well, especially after the spate of bad luck recently.

I wonder if some of those recent near misses have motivated the staff to really get out there and grind. So in a way losing out on kids like Noel has had more of a long term benefit. Also landing the new tv contract in the new BE...has that played a role? Do we now have more money to spend in this area??

Fox doesn't steer players to certain programs...or pay for them.

I think he just meant we have a bigger recruiting budget to make more trips and see more kids.

Ya sorry for the confusion. Wasn't implying it was going into players pockets.

Got it. No confusion though about ESPN's ethics.

Active Hoyas host USF transfer John EgbunuGuest visitors were on hand at the Verizon Center on Saturday: Georgetown coach John Thompson III gave South Florida big man transfer John Egbunu a tour of the Hoyas home arena and locker room on Saturday afternoon. Egbunu started 31 of 32 games this past season for the Bulls, averaging 7.4 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.3 blocks under coach Stan Heath, who was fired after the season. Several USF players including Egbunu were subsequently granted their release from the school. Thompson, assistant coach Kevin Broadus, Egbunu and members of the 7-footers family arrived as the Washington Wizards coincidently concluded practice. Wizards rookie and former Georgetown star Otto Porter met with the party. Read More here: www.csnwashington.com/ncaa/active-hoyas-host-usf-transfer-john-egbunu

If we don't land him, nothing would have convinced him to come here. I think gone are the days we could question the staff's recruiting effort and acumen. On a side note, very cool story on the Gtown baseball team's efforts to raise money for a cancer charity. Not many 18/19 year old kids are aware enough to think up ways to help those less fortunate. Very impressive.

His visit just ended. By all accounts it went very, very well. Egbunu is off to Arizona for a visit Monday and Tuesday.
Feeling pretty good about where we stand.

You never know how these things turn out....just believe that it's a great fit and that he and his family recognize this. At this juncture, just have a feeling that he's ours to lose.

I just like that his family was involved in the visit. Always a good thing for our chances.

It may already have been said here or in another thread but our Hoyas may have become even more appealing to the bigs we are recruiting with Trey’s commitment and the prospect of HOF Alonzo hanging around the program over the next four years..

I wonder if some of those recent near misses have motivated the staff to really get out there and grind. So in a way losing out on kids like Noel has had more of a long term benefit. That was a different staff led by the same hc. More likely is getting tired of putting 2 vs 5 on the court because there are no other options. It's on JT3 to establish the recruiting philosophy required to be a top 10 team or better every year. He has put himself and the team in a position of weakness when it comes to having options if your NBA-level player(s) leaves early, gets injured or whatever, if several players don't develop as expected, etc... It took a long time, but I think he now understands what he needs to succeed: talent, hard work, some NBA-level talent and balance on the roster as well as on the coaching staff. As we have seen, the staff is casting that recruiting net far and wide, and getting results. If you want to compete against the big boys, it's non-stop work. The MSF will only help. Exciting times!
