Does anyone think we pursue Obekpa? Would he be interested? Would love to grab a proven shotblocker like him. But not sure he has the offensive skills JTIII likes...

Mr. Obekpa's offensive skills can hardly be less satisfactory than those of the 3 gentlemen who manned the position after "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" went on hiatus.

This is the last thing the conference needs. Thanks alot, Lavin. Lavin worked for ESPN right? There it is. He is a mole planted by ESPN to help destroy the Big East. I bet he has a summer home near Area 51 also. ILLUMINATI!!!! COKE AND PEPSI ARE THE SAME THING!!!

The Johnnies are reportedly down to seven returning scholarship athletes for next season, without any incoming scholarship players. Not surprisingly, we aren't hearing very much now about Lavin's six-year contract extension. Wait, SJU has no incoming freshman next year? WTF? "St. John’s will need to add several frontcourt pieces for the 2014-15 season and beyond. Adonis Delarosa, a 6-foot-10 big man from Christ the King, is set to announce his college choice on April 18 and is considering St. John’s, Pittsburgh, South Carolina and others. He visited Pitt last week and enjoyed it. Joey Delarosa, the 6-11 older brother of Adonis, is currently enrolled at St. John’s after transferring from FIU, and will likely be eligible at Christmas, a source told SNY.tv. Should both Delarosa brothers join the St. John’s roster, it would effectively give them two 7-footers going forward. Also, Keith Thomas, a 6-8 forward from Westchester Community College who averaged 15.3 points and 15.7 rebounds this past season, took an unofficial to St. John’s this week and is due to take an official later this month, the source said"

But, what's up with the naming thing? Joey and Adonis? One parent must be the creative type and the other plain vanilla, and they each got naming rights?

Can someone explain to me why SJU has been awful since Mike Jarvis left? I realize their coaching has been terrible. But the program should be pretty analogous to us and Nova (i.e., catholic school, NE city [yes, I realize Nova isn't in Philly], great program in the 80's), but they've fallen so far behind what should be their peers. They're the premiere school in one of the premiere basketball cities in the country.
They need to replace Lavin. Everyone knew he couldn't coach coming in, but the hope was he could recruit enough to make them competitive. Seems like the luster is off this one, and they need to find someone who can make the program relevant again. I feel dirty even saying this, but Hopkins at Syracuse would be a good move for them in my opinion. Knows the recruiting area, and would have the added benefit of freaking out Cuse. Sure, he'd leave eventually when Boeheim retired (if they'd have him), but SJU would still benefit from someone transitioning them into a more attractive destination.

Lots of issues with guys leaving or being ineligible. Polee, Harkless, Garrett, Sampson, and Obekpa come to mind from the past few years.

If I was SJU I would look hard at Howland. That program needs stability in the worst way and he provides that along with a great resume.

I actually thought they were on the right track with Norm Roberts, but I am clearly in the minority point of view on that one.

Have to say, though, that stability doesn't appear to have been Howland's forte his last few yaars at UCLA.
